Return A Vb2010 Dictionary To Vbscript?
Oct 26, 2011
I am trying to return a vb2010 dictionary to vbscript. I posted this to the vbscript forum with no luck, so I thought I would try here.The code for vb2010 is below, and works fine within VB2010:
Public Function TestDictionary() As Dictionary(Of String, String)
Dim dic As New Dictionary(Of String, String)
dic.Add("1", "Tval1")
[code].....

I want to group items from a linq query under a header, so that for each header I have a list of objects that match the header title. I assumed the solution would be to use ToDictionary to convert the objects, but this allows only one object per "group" (or dictionary key). I assumed I could create the dictionary of type (String, List Of()), but I can't figure out how to write it. As an example I have written a simplified version below.

I'm developping an ASP.NET application, and I need to use an old VBScript file that would be really hard to translate into pure VB in a VB function.
This VBScript is supposed to return an array that I'd like to use it in the VB function that called it.
How could I call the VBScript function in my VB application and use the value it returned?
I've search how to do so through many forum and FAQ, but it seems that these results where mainly focused on old version of the .NET framework.[code]...

Ok, here is the problem,in vbscript, i was reading parts of streams
i.e.
teststrid = left (strLine,8)
teststrnm =rtrim( mid (strLine,15,30))
teststrx = mid (strLine,57,8)
teststr = left (strLine,3)
strFormcode = left (strLine, 10)
strSymmetrycode = left (strLine,14)
strSigncode = left (strLine, 10)
Even in cases that strLine length was less than the index used to split the string, the program kept running.Now i am trying to do the same in VB.net, but since the strLine is not always bigger than the index used to break the string, it ives an error.I do not want to use try catch, because i will have very dirty and uselless code.
I was thinking something like resume next, but i guess it doesnt exist anymore.

Following code properly populates "wksSheetNames" Dictionary
Dim wksSheetNames As New Dictionary(Of String, String)
For Each Wks In xlsWB.Worksheets
Wks.Activate()
wksSheetNames.Add(xlsApp.ActiveSheet.codename, xlsApp.ActiveSheet.name)
Next
For example assume the code logic is correct (I know that the syntax is not correct)If wksSheetNames.(Key="Sheet2", Value="Inventory") then Stop What is the correct VB.Net syntax to "Stop" in the above line?

I know I can do this with a for loop cause that's how i'm doing it now. I was hoping for a more efficient way to accomplish the task.
I have a dictionary(Of Integer, Boolean) or Of String, Boolean. i want to get a list(of integer) or Of String from the dictionary where all the values are true(or false depending on what i need at the time)
and to generalize it or "black box" it, it could be any dictionary(of whatever, whatever) and return a list(of whatever) where the value = whatever i'm looking for at the time.
string, string where value = "Closed"
in short: i want all list of all the keys who's value = some criteria
my current code:
Public Function FindInDict(Of tx, ty)(thedict As Dictionary(Of tx, ty), criteria As ty) As List(Of tx)
Dim tmpList As New List(Of tx)
[Code].....

I have been struggling to get vbscript working for last three days of relentless effort. I have windows 7 ultimate and upgraded from windows vista. searched the web for solutions and tried out all the options I think I have, but yet no luck.
I tried registering vbscript.dll and I get a succeeded message back. Everything seems to be fine. but, I just cannot run vbscript on my computer. It complains that "can't find script engine vbscript for script ....". I have a hunch that it is something to do with "microsfot security essentials (my virus protection software)" or with UAC.

I wanted to use HttpGet here so that the result can be cached.
I tried every variation of calling this, but no luck. Is this possible with GET?

I have the following object:
countDictionary As Dictionary(of Category, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))
The Class has a Enumeration Property. For the purposes of demonstration, I'll call it MasterCategory.I have been trying to get out an object that looks like the following:
groupedCountDictionary As Dictionary(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer)
The best result I could get was:
Lookup(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))
From:
countDictionary.ToLookup(Function(o) o.Key.MasterCategory, Function(o) o.Value)
Which results in a IEnumerable (Of Dictionary(of Date, Integer)) for each MasterCategory value.However, I need that IEnumerable of Dictionary flattened to one dictionary with all the integers summed (total counts) for each date. I then tried to use various selects and group bys (from numerous stackoverflow posts) to "flatten" it, but my efforts have fallen short.
Current Code
[Category Class]
- MasterCategory As Enum
- Name As String etc

I have created a Dictionary class (MyDictionary for the example). I am currently trying to pass MyDictionary into a function, filter it into a new instance of MyDictionary and pass this new instance into another method. When I am attempting to create the second instance from the filtered first instance of MyDictionary via Lambda Expressions and the ToDictionary Method, I am getting the following error:
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2[System.Int32,System.String]' to type 'MyDictionary'. I have simplified the example and recreated it in LINQPad and am getting the same error.
Here's the simplified version of my code:

I wish to convert the vbscript below to vb.net. Note: the functions from the script are also in a dll file but you can install the dsf runtime which comes with the windows ddk and just use the com component it installs from vb.net.

I'm working up a system where I plan on using RealProxy objects to enable intercepting method calls against a set of objects, handling the call, and then returning appropriate results. This works just find for simple return types like strings or ints, but I can't seem to return objects from the RealProxy.Invoke method. Everything works. I get no errors, but the returned value is always NOTHING, instead of an object.
I've worked up the smallest sample code I could, and have included it below. Essentially, just call RPtest and single step through. The code creates a simple object, RPTestA, with a string field and an object valued field It then retrieves the string

I have a DetailsView that I am using to insert an enrollment form into the database. Currently every functions fine, with one exception. Since there is a terms and agreement checkbox at the bottom of the form that I cannot validate using the existing validation controls, I'm trying to handle this in the VBScript.The problem is that the InsertCommand in my ASP executes before the Button_Click sub does, so the form is submitted before the checkbox validates. Can someone tell me how to move the InsertCommand from the ASP to the code file so that I can make sure it doesn't execute until AFTER my button validation? Here is my code:

I have a process by which I push icons to distant Vista based PCs on our domain...it's all automated. One of these itemsis a shortcut (call it MYLINK.LNK) which I put in the user's Start Menu. That shortcut calls a .WSF script that, in turn, runs a JScriptfollowed by a VBScript.The JScript installs a commercial product and the VBScript is used to clean up after itself. One of those 'clean up' jobs is to delete the icon that kicked off this entire thing.
So I have :
Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
objFSO.DeleteFile("C: empstartload.wsf")

An application I maintain has been around since VB6 days - ported to .Net 1.1, and now being updated/rewritten across to .Net 3.5 The application provides a mechanism to run VBScripts - this was done in a highly integrated way - allowing the program to parse multiple .vbs files and produce a list of all of the subroutines and functions - which were then available within the application alongside core functions.
Previously this was an embedded msscript.ocx - in the first .Net conversion, this was wrapped in Interop.MSScriptControl.dll, however, on Windows 7 this just isn't working. It looks like this is really not the way to be doing this anyway - Microsoft seem to be trying to kill vbscript.
Is there a 'supported' way of using VBScript, or is it time to move on? and if so, where is there to move to that provides the same sort of functionality?
