Close() Puts Forms Into Crazy Open/Close Loop?
Mar 4, 2011In a program I'm working on, I want a "Loading..." dialog to close when it can't log in to a site using the username and password provided by the user. Basically, I have the code set up right because the function it is supposed to carry out when that occurs does work, but for some reason it ends up in some really weird stuff happening. In the Loading form, I have it set to do "Form1.Show()" and then "Me.Close()", assuming it would simply show the login form and then close the Loading form. However, when this happens, the Loading form closes, and then for only an instant Form1 shows, and then the Loading form shows and Form1 closes. This happens forever until I stop the debugging, and I can't seem to figure out why. Am I using the wrong method? What exactly does Me.Close() do anyways? This will be a �virtual desktop� which you will be able to take with you and have the same �desktop� on any system. As we know drive letters can change with each host system the drive is plugged into, I need to be able to determine the path for the flash drive and access a specific folder ( i.e. My Documents)

Get The Inputbox To Close Without It Conflicting With The Loop?
Jun 22, 2010I was looking though a book on Visual Basic .Net and came across a little password-protection program (A very simple one).
Problem is, that this was written for VB6, not the 2008 version, so i did a little editing as shown below:

The only thing i am having difficulty is with the line at the end. Even though it has been told it needs to close if more than three attempts are made, it keeps trying to create a fourth attempt and is fighting against the If statement.How do i get the inputbox to close without it conflicting with the loop? I thought maybe an End If statement at the end would help, but it doesn't.

The error message I receive is...'T:vb_mt7MTrackBE.mdb' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.I've done the obvious and verified that t:vb_mt7MtrackBE.mdb is a valid path.

DB/Reporting :: SQL Connection Open/close?
Dec 16, 2011SQL connections confuse me sometimes In almost every SQL related code on the internet the routine is like this;
* Open connection
* Execute SQL command
* Close connection
Is it good practice to just open a connection when the application starts and use that connection until the application closes?I know that sequential connections are required when processing more queries, but what if I need to poll a certain Table every x seconds? Isn't is better to keep that single connection open for as long as the application is running (and re-open when a failure occurs) instead of opening a new connection every x seconds?
