Consuming Web Services - Going From A Manual Method To An Automatic One Using Third Party Provided WSDL

Feb 24, 2009

We have a small VB.net application that basically pulls information from our dBase and then exports this information to an .xls file. From this .xls file, in house agents then manually update a third party listing service (which maintains our current inventory) with the information contained within. The information is very basic, consisting of, for ease of discussion, a 'Part Number', a 'Description' and a 'Quantity On Hand.'

Normally we update this information once a week, but, a newly revised contract with this listing service now requires a daily update to maintain our 'platinum' vendor status. The problem is that it can take quite some time to manually update this information. an automated process is in dire need. And I have finished most of the ground-work and coding - up to a point. Hence the question, and hence where I get stuck. The listing service has provided us with the following WSDL's: One for Increasing our Inventory, one for Decreasing our inventory, one for Adding inventory and one for Removing Inventory.

Up to this point, I have re-programmed a Stored Procedure that was generating the exported information. this SP now does some internal math to figure out if a transaction result occurring on 'yesterday' was an 'Increase', a 'Decrease', an 'Add' or a 'Remove.' These results are then added to a result table under a newly created column named 'SERVICE.' This new information is then pulled from the dBase with vb.net and imported into a Data Table for analysis.

With this Data Table, I can now loop through each row, looking in the column 'SERVICE' and depending on the information contained in that cell, call the appropriate web service.

[Code]...

I realize that this has become quite long winded, mostly because on any given day I have 25 FF tabs open and none of them agreeing with each other. To add another wrinkle; the WSDL's in question use a lot of complex types within complex types with, you guessed it, other complex types entwined.

Add Some Scripting Support To .NET-application

Jun 21, 2010

I would like to add some scripting support to my .NET-application (I usually code in VB.NET). Since VisualStudio 2008 won't let me use VSA to get scripting support, and the Windows ScriptControl crashes in 64-bit mode, I have been looking for an alternative solution to my problem.I would really like to be able to code the scripts in VBScript or VB.NET, because of the simple syntax.Would it be possible to implement some kind of sandbox inside my application to make it run a VB.NET application inside itself? Or is there any simpler way of getting scripting support?

C# :: Scripting Auto-mation Within Application?

Dec 30, 2009

The software company I work for offers data conversion as a service for new clients who have previously used other similar software. I've written a VB.NET application to automate common conversion operations, and have separate logic between known vendors.particular file layout has become rather common, but due to the nature of how this particular competitor's application stores information, certain fields mean one thing for one client, and another for a different client.Certain elements within this vendor's format change every time, so I've written the application to account for that. Because some data fields mean different things to different vendors, I have to change my mapping code every time. This wasn't an issue when I had one of these every six months or so, but these are becoming much more common and I would much rather find a way to further automate this process.

Scripting Is Interfering With Main Application?

May 19, 2009

Ok this is how it is, I have my main app form, and from there I open another seperate form for scripting, but they are both open at the same time, when I run a script from the scripting form, it interfers with the main window form code that's running, I'm guessing they are both running in the same thread or whatever, how do I fix it? I've tried using thread commands but obviously it's not working,

'Snapping' To 3rd Party Application

May 28, 2009

I am writing a small application that will display some info to my end user. I have another program that the end user will have open while running my appplication. What I am trying to do is have my application launch itself (and maintain positioning if other app location changes) and "tether" itself to the other application.Ideally the top left of my application would attach to the top right of the other application.I have tried for countless hours working with the GetWindowPos API but the values returned are either all zeros or it just doesn't work.I do a Try/Catch to see if the other app is running and I fetch the Handle of the process. This works fine. Then I try to get the positioning of this process and set my .Left property to the returned RECT's .Left property. no dice. This is Visual Basic 2005 ExpressOther application is a PuTTY window that is not a fullscreen app.

AccessViolationException Error When Trying To Interface With Third Party Dll?

Dec 28, 2011

The error message that I've been getting for the past few months when trying to access functions of a specific third-party .dll using vb.net is this: "An unhandled exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException' occurred in test.exe Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

I've been researching this error message, and I have come to know that it is likely due to either attempting to access memory that isn't available or due to "enhanced" security features.I am trying to access a third party .dll. The functions in that .dll all deal in one way or another with Handle types (either returning them or accepting them as parameters). I understand that handle's can be essentially pointers to pointers (pointing to an entry in a memory table, which is itself a pointer), and I also understand that handle's don't, strictly speaking, exist in the .NET framework, but I do understand that through some combination of IntPtr's and possibly the Marshal class, they can be dealt with.

I don't believe vb.net's lack of a Handle type is the problem, because the dll function that I am calling, which on success returns a handle, returns a number <= 0 if the ip address it is searching for is not found, and the ip I specified doesn't exist. Also, the error really only occurs when executing the code from within the the Visual Studio environment. I compiled the executable and ran it 77 times(literally), and I only got the error on the 77th try.

I'm trying to find out all I can about this error. I would like to completely eliminate it. Could the error come as a result of something happening within the dll itself? The function asks for an ip address, and the ip address I have specified doesn't currently exist on the network, but as far as I know, the function handles that by returning a number less than or equal to zero. I am very confused as to what the problem could be. I have successfully interfaced with .dll's before. I've read about the hotfix for .NET 2.0 regarding this error message, but I'm a little skeptical. I've tried everything else I can think of, though, so I may give that a shot.I'm 100% certain that:

-I am calling the correct function within the .dll

-I am using a signature that matches the signature of the function

-The error has nothing to do with User Account Control.

The code is very simple to try to isolate the issue:

Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Module test
<DllImport("3rdparty.dll", EntryPoint:="#12")>[code]......

Read Text From A 3rd Party Application?

Oct 9, 2008

I am trying to read text from a 3rd party application. I can create a catalogue of all possible letter variations. I can store every possible character I encounter as a small bmp, or perhaps as an array/matrix of pixel values. For example:

xxxxOOxxxx
xxxxOOxxxx
xxxxOOxxxx
xxxxOOxxxx
xxxxOOxxxx

the letter "I" could be represented in a 10x5 array or matrix as above. Where x represents a wildcard pixel value, but O represents the expected/pre-defined RGB value.

I want to search specific areas of the screen, pixel by pixel where I expect to find the information I'm after. And convert this to usable information. What method gives the best trade-off for simplicity and speed? And how can I implement this method? How do I search for a bmp within a bmp at specific coordinates?

(WCF) --> CMD File --> 3rd Party App - Method - Which Call From Another Application

May 24, 2011

I have a self-hosted WCF service (VB) residing on a server. This service has a method, which I call from another application, that is supposed to kick off a .cmd file which calls a 3rd party program.

My WCF has used both the old Shell() command and the Process() object. Both can call the .cmd file (located on the server's local drive). The .cmd file looks like this:

CODE:

Now I know the .cmd file (saved as Letter.cmd) is firing because when I check the txt file after testing my app, the before/after statements have been written. However, the 3rd party application does not start.

Now the weird part -- if I double click the cmd file from explorer, the test statements are written to the text file AND the 3rd party application kicks off. Runs great.

I've double-checked the application and corresponding files to make sure NETWORK_SERVICE has permissions and my service is running under that account.

Force Multiple Instance Of A Standalone (3rd Party) Application

I know it can be accomplished by hexing the original executable, however I would like to stay away from this method as I'd like for other users to be able to use my application from the get go without needing to hex the 3rd party app themselves or me having to send them the hexed app. Is there any way to achieve this or am I just taking crazy pills?
