Nov 15, 2010I'm writing a help application for the Customer support team at my company to help agents ask better questions when customers report problems. In it, I've got a SQL database that contains all the products, topics, and questions. The layout is similar to the following:
Products Table:
Product_ID Product Name:
Topics Table:
Topic_ID Product_ID Topic

I don't know if I'm making myself clear, but I basically need to do the equivalent to the following SQL statement: "SELECT PRODUCT_ID FROM Products WHERE PRODUCT_Name = LstProducts.SelectedValue"

Apr 13, 2010I have a data grid view on a form which is currently filled with the following query:
SELECT TopicCode, TopicName, NoOfCourses, Lev FROM tblTopics WHERE TopicCode = @TopicCode1(Where I obviously pass a TopicCode parameter)
However, I have added two custom columns to the data grid view, and the values that i want be in here are in a different table than the query i'm using to fill the data grid view.is it possible to "nest" queries? which will allow me to select fields from two different tables?
Example:SELECT TopicCode, TopicName, NoOfCourses, Duration, Lev FROM tblTopics AND SELECT StartDate, EndDate FROM tblSubscriptions WHERE TopicCode = @TopicCode1

Sql Server - Join Tables Based On A Column Without Creating Records For Every Combination

Customer | Product

If I use a normal JOIN then I get a list of friends for every separate product. I just want the two lists once.
The output lists with '-' need not be table cells, they can be <ul>s.
How can I achieve this? I would like to bind to ASP.net GridView. Should I try to do it all in one query, or use multiple queries and somehow add them both to the same Grid?
Each row actually forms part of a long report. Essentially each row of the report contains Customer ID, a bunch of other fields which match one-to-one with Customer ID, then the two lists for each Customer ID I described. Perhaps I can use a separate query for each list, then manually add each list to the grid on RowDataBound or similar?

Mar 30, 2009The data type for my DATE column in SQL is smalldatetime. I want to perform a query which selects records based on the the selected date of a calendar object.
A user clicks on the date and the date is stored in ddlfilter2 DDLfilter2.Items.Add(CalendarMain.SelectedDate)
mystring = "SELECT * FROM view_main where date" & "='" & DDLFilter2.Text & "'"
produces this "select * from view_main where date='24/03/2009'
I then get an error saying "The conversion of char data type to smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range smalldatetime value."
In the SQL database the data is displayed as "24/03/2009 00:00:00" is this why the query is failing?
Sql - ADO.Net Not Recognizing Column In Select Statement
Oct 7, 2009I have a query that executes fine in TOAD, but when bringing back the results with either an ADO.Net DataReader or DataAdapter/DataSet, it's not recognizing a column in the select statement. See the query below... the column in question has its data coming from a dynamic table or sub-select or whatever you call it. I don't see why this is a problem in .Net:

Table structures:
Employees: EmployeeId(PK) , FirstName, LastName
CafeLogs: LogId (PK), CashierId, EmployeeId, Value, => CashierId and EmployeeId are the data from column EmployeeId of Empoyee table
Table relationship:
Employees 1:N CafeLogs (CashierId (FK))
