Select The Record Based On An Id?

I have a table and I need to select the record based on an Id. I only want to return the record that has the Max(Date) on a date field. How do I do that?
In SQL Server I use this
SELECT * FROM dch
WHERE EffectiveDate = (SELECT MAX(EffectiveDate) FROM dch
WHERE ID = 99) AND ID = 99
How can I do this in Linq. Unfortunately this app is coded in VB.NET as we inherited it that way.
I was trying these
Dim qry = (From dch In db.dch _
Where dch.Dealer.Equals(Dealer) _
Select dch.EffectiveDate).Max()

Contact Title has a default value which is Sales Person. Anyhow, when a user click Edit on the chosen ListView record, i need Contact Title to have the right value that corresponds to the chosen record. For example, if user clicks edit, the fields on the left side will be filled with values. In this case, i want Contact Title to view the right value.

I am using vb.net 2008 and sql 2008. How can I delete the last row of a record based on the condition that if the column. FileNo is more than 15 then it should get deleted order by Fdate column desc. I want the rows should get deleted from starting from the last row.

I have an MS Access database that has a field called DeletedDate. I want to use a Delete statement that will delete the record(s) when DeleteDate is 30 days old or older. I have tried several different Delete statements but none seem to work properly. They will always delete some of the records, but will leave some records where either DeleteDate is older than 30 days or will delete recored where DeleteDate is not yet 30 days old. I have tried these using DeleteDate as a Text field and as a Date/Time field. Which should I use? These are the Delete Statements that I have used:

Am using Visual studio 2005 with MS Access. I have a Datagridview with a date column in format 11/23/2011(Month/Date/Year).
Now i want to know how 'search criteria based on particular month and date'.
For Example if select 'Nov' as a month from combobox and click on search button, only November month details should be displayed.

I would like to be able to enable one of the dgvs based on the value of the curr_player variable. I'm reluctant to to write select case for each time I want to do this so the question is can I enable one of these objects based on that variable?

Using VB.Net,I have an XmlNode object, xNode.I need to select an attribute of this node if it has a particular value.
e.g. xNode.SelectSingleNode(".[@attr1='1']")
I would expect this statement to return the attribute "attr1", only if it has a value of "1". However, I get an error - Expression must evaluate to a node-set.When I tried this - xNode.SelectSingleNode("@attr1[@attr1='1']")It always returns Nothing, even if the attribute has a value of 1.

I wana know how can i use a value from a sql table that i added from another form?It basically supposed to validate that whatever was the last recorded added in the other form(eg formA) , i must then use those same values from the sql , into another form(eg formB).If i type a value in the textbox( in formB), it basically must validate that, the value i typed in, is not the record that was enterd in the other form(formA) (the last record added in that form)

I would like to select a record from my table based on a GUID using the following approach:

but I get the following exception:

I have 2 Tables , OrderDetails and Requests In my LINQ to SQL dbml file. OrderDetailsID is a foreign key in Requests Table.
I want to write the query to get the sum of UnitCost from OrderDetails based on OrderId. And If there is a row in Requests Table for each OrderDetailsID, and the Requests.Last.RequestType="Refund" I want to reduce the total refund amount from the main sum otherwise If there is no row based on OrderDetailsID, add to sum.
Here is the way I implement that. I am looking to prevent using "For each".
