so i will try and make this simple, im writing a program in VB 2008 and i need to search through the whole hard drive for a specific file type, in my case they are .psd files so im using this line of code:

It appears that when IO.Directory.GetFiles tries to read a folder that it doesn't have access to it throws an exception & stops reading. Is there any way to have skip those folders & continue reading the rest of the folders?

So on click of button '2' the folders are cleaned out, and on click of button '3' they are deleted - it works great.Now the problem is, if any of the folders in the directory 'test' are not accessible to the current user, the program throws the exception 'Access to the path is denied.Is it possible to skip folders that are not accessible, and just ignore them, and delete the ones that are accessible?What code needs to be added to enable this ability?

I would like to make the call more robust: to return the folders or files not blocked by access restrictions and to note the folders which were blocked. View 3 RepliesI'm developing an application to help law enforcement retrieve and analyze logs and other files left by the use of Pidgin (a multi-protocol messenger client). Right now I'm nearly done, but I want to add the ability to search chat logs for user-defined words or phrases and I don't even know where to begin.
Chat logs are stored as html documents in a folder/sub-folder/sub-folder/sub-folder fashion, where each sub-folder can have dozens of sub-folders inside of it, and the final sub-folder can have dozens if not hundreds of chat logs. If anybody could point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.

at I do not know the number of or the names of the folders, they can be different in different cases, I only have the root path.how I can display folder contents in VB.net and the code worked but couldn't figure out how to create the arrays and display only folders within folders starting with "ad_".

I need help with file enumeration. I'm trying to create a program that can list files, folders and sub folders locations in a log file for diagnostic purposes. After it searches it can open notepad and display the results. The problem I'm having is that I'm a beginner and not familiar with file enumeration.

The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?
Is there a quicker way to check directories? For example I want to check if the folder "A Folders" contains folders from 000A all the way to 999A then lists the folder that are missing? Do you think this is possible?

I have a 'For Each' loop that contains some items I don't want to analyse. Now I use a GoTo command to 'skip' an item. But this is not very elegant and (knowing .NET) there is probably a way to skip to the next item without using GoTo.

But, I would like to have the exceptional handling that in case there're records in XML files got problem, e.g. invalid data format or exceed column width and etc, it will skip those records and continue loading remaining XML records into DataSet.
