I am creating a program that uses text files to recall data and store them in a variable. My intention is to make this text file hidden so it will be harder to find and for other people to edit the data inside. I'm looking for a code that enables me to write to the file without unhiding it.

I want to create an application for cyber cafe which I thought should be as follows :-
1. My app starts with windows and is hidden in the system tray.
2. When IE starts my app gives a popup that your time has started at "Whatever the time at the moment would be".
3. When user closes its time is calculated in a Msgbox.
The problem is how to check if the users opens another IE window while working and add the bill to the same user. To reset the timer when i.e., is closed by first user and second user starts operating. How to start the app with windows and that too in system tray.

I have tested a few applications downloaded from net. They are surely database applications but when I checked in the folder where the application is installed, there is no database (no mdb, sdf etc.) When I install my application, my databases are always in the folder.
What is the trick to make them invisible but they should still work.

way to retrieve list/rename hiddne files from the remote host. I need to upload the file to a server and then move it to another directory, but the file after being transfered becomes hidden. If I try to rename it any way I get the dreaded 550 in response. I would hate to move to commad line scripting which at the moment seams to be my only option.

How can you convert DirectoryInfo such as a GetDirectories into a string. I can run the following just fine.
For Each m In Movies
lbMovies.Items.Add(m)
Next
But I really want to store something like m.GetDirectories.ToString into a structure I've built.

The sub below will show all of the directories contain with a directory
Code:
Private Sub showDirectories(ByVal rootDirectory As String)
Dim rootDirectories() As String = IO.Directory.GetDirectories(rootDirectory)
[code]....
When I run this code I can use any directory as the root directory except My Documents. When I use the directory path with My Documents, as well as finding all of the folders contained in My Documents, it finds three extra: My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. Those three folders do not exist at all in My Documents. I have checked hidden files and folder and they are definately not there yet the showDirectories() sub says that they are.The exact error is: Access to the path 'C:UsersMichaelDocumentsMy Music' is denied. It's dened because the folder doesn't exist. I have checked myself using Windows Explorer!Despite this, when I type 'file:///C:/Users/Michael/Documents/' in the address bar of Google Chrome, it shows all of the files and folders in My Documents and, guess what, it shows the folders My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. But Windows Explorer doesn't show these! The strange thing is, for each of the folders, the last Date Modified was 23/01/2011 13:42:49 exactly. Each of the folders was last modified at that exact second simultaneously!I have 3 "ghost" folders "haunting" my My Documents. Is there any programs out there that perform "exorcisms" cause I am seriously freaked out!Perhaps this is the wrong place to post this. When I started writing this thread, it was about Visual Basic but now I realise it has nothing to do with programming at all.

I'm coding this neat little project that's kind of a hack into the SanDisk U3 Cruzer's ability to have both a CDFS and FAT32 File System. This is helpful because the program is burned to the CDFS (It's basically slip streamed as an .ISO in place of the original U3 .ISO), and the settings files (which I've developed as text files) are placed on the root of the flash drive. The program itself is VERY simple actually, except I'm having a slight issue that's really driving me insane:
The drive path of the Flash Drive won't be the same from computer to computer. I.E... The files are "UAI.txt" and "UInfo.txt". The root of the drive on my comp is "I:", but on my laptop is "F:". So if I program the path from my computer as the absolute path, an exception is thrown when the path changes on another computer. I cannot have this happen. It is probably THE MOST crucial element to this program. How can you save and read info if you can't find the files? =P
So I've gone through so many threads and forums trying to find a batch of code to allow me to make the path relative. I've found the following code (modified, of course). It works PERFECT in Debug, but throws an exception once packaged to the CDFS partition:
[Code]...

I'm having an issue that, frankly, I don't understand. I've been developping a VB.NET application for months and today, when I open the solution file, and tried rebuilding it, I am getting several errors, all various permutations of "The referenced component 'SOMETHING' could not be found." There are 5 COM objects that it cannot seem to load (Excel, Office.Core, VBIDE, Word, and OISSERVERLib).
When I go into the References section, I see next to those COM objects, the path is now shown as "<The system cannot find the reference specified>". I've followed the steps outlined here, including updating the reference paths to directly point to the files, but nothing seems to be fixing the issue.
Does anyone know what could be causing this, or (even better) how to fix it? This is the first time in 4 years that I've encountered an issue like this.
I've attached a zip file containing a screen print of Visual Studio showing the errors.
