2008 Run More Slowly In Windows 7 64 Bit?

Dec 25, 2009

I've create my program before in Windowx XP ir required 1:37 seconds to finish the Genetic Algorithm but after I moved to Windows 7 64 bit and trying to used the 64 bits compiled version it runs much more slowly, it could take 5 minutes more, I've tried to change to 32 bit compiled version it run more faster than 64 bits but still slower than Windows XP it takes about 2:01. Is there something I missed in the compiling for 64 bits, or maybe the VS 2008 still not compatible with Windows 7.

I'm using a WebBrowser to print some HTML data, all works good except for the print preview called in the load completed event - It opens as a very small window in the top left, anything I can do to improve this?

Retrieving A Window's Small Icon Handle?

Jan 2, 2008

I am using the Win32API function EnumWindows to populate a listview with the window text, handle. In this listview I would also like to populate the SmallImageList from an ImageList control of the window's small icon attribute. Now, I have the window handle for each, and I understand their is a number of ways to go about this. I have tried using SendMessage, sending the WM_GETICON value for ICON_SMALL...but that always returns zero.I've read something too about populating a WindowClass structure to get an icon for a particular window.

Provide A Status Window In VB2008 When Calling Access 2007 Runtime Modules?

Mar 25, 2012

I am looking for some help in finding the best way to display a progress window for a module I am working on.I have a VB2008 app using an Access 2007 db. One of the MODULES in the Access db does a masterfile update and I want to show the user what is happening in process.

The VB2008 app calls the Access module to do all the work which is FAR FASTER than having VB2008 do all the work. The goal is to have a small window popup and display the progress. Once the process is done, close the window. How would you do this? Use a Access form? That works but it not clean looking at all. Is there something else that might work better?

Something like a msgbox that opens and can be updated while the process runs. Once the process is done, it can be closed. The user will not need to interact with this window - it's just to show the applications progress.

VS 2010 - MessageBox.show - Maintain Execution And Display Status On Second Window / Form

Dec 2, 2011

I've created a form with several controls to specify the inputs to my program. They include TextBox, OpenFileDialog, Button and even a user control for numeric input. When the user clicks the 'GO' button, the program begins it work. Opening several files and processing a bunch of numerical data. This could take many minutes/hours with large datasets.

What I've been trying to do is have another window/form open up and send status information to it for the user to view. The info to be displayed is varied and constantly updated as the program crunches the numbers. Many many programs do just this type of activity.

I attempted to create a second form with a huge TextBox thinking I'd just write stuff to it. I called the .show method within the .click of the 'GO' button and of course the form is displayed but control of the program's execution doesn't return until the form is closed. How to I maintain execution and have a second window/form to display status?

Write A Small Program For ITunes Using Windows COM?

Apr 20, 2010

I are trying to write a small program for iTunes using Windows COM. We are able to talk to iTunes and create popup boxes that show the current track, and a few other small things. However, when we try to set this info to a Label for example, we get:

InvalidOperationException was unhandled by user code Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Label1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.

The program then hangs and locks iTunes from closing. I believe the issue is the event handler I have created, which I know very little about. We are using VB 2010, so that may change some things. We followed a rough example from a forum post HERE. If you scroll down the orange text, you will see a reply right after by Will Hughes with a "Handles iTunes.OnPlayEvent". If I add this to the end of my event handler, I get:

Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. Not sure if its important to the issue or not, but I found it curious. Our code is shown below.

Imports iTunesLib
Public Class Form1
Private iTunes As New iTunesApp

TBPF_INDETERMINATE Status Has No Effect In .NET 2.0 On Windows 7 Taskbar?

Apr 15, 2011

I have a very weird problem. I have a VB.NET 2.0 application that takes advantage of Windows 7 taskbar button progress features, i.e. displaying certain progress and application state in the Win7 taskbar button.Everything works just fine - I can set and update progress, I can set the button to paused or ewrror state, I can set it to No progress. Everything works, except MARQUE (Indeterminate) mode. This is a total mistery, whenever I set state to TBPF_INDETERMINATE (value of 0x1), it simply changes back to NOPROGRESS type, i.e. it removes all progress inidcation from the taskbar button and sets it back to its default state - no animated marque is ever displayed!

I have read documentation on MSDN -[URL] tried various combinations like setting progress to 0 and then calling set state to indeterminate; or like setting it to normal first and then to indeterminate - nothing works. It's a total mistery - and there is no clue in the documentation as to why it is failing...

Here's the code:The API implementation:

<StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)> _
Public Structure RECT
Public left As Integer
Public top As Integer

.NET 3.5 Chart Control Loads Slowly?

Jul 1, 2010

So in this program that I've made, I have 5 tabs. One of them uses this chart control for .NET ver 3.5 that I downloaded from the Microsoft website. The issue is, though, that when I start the program, everything is fine until I click on the tab with the 3 charts on it. The tab freezes a little bit, and it takes a few seconds to load the charts. After this initial hiccup everything is fine, but I've tested this on three computers now and it happens to all of them. Anyone know what I can do to make these charts load faster or smoother? This is quite a roadblock.because otherwise I'd be done I've been working on this project in VB.NET for the past 3 weeks and it's my first time using the language. So far every single one of my questions on here has been answered and all within a day or two

Getting Data Very Slowly And Sometimes Getting MemoryOutofRange Exception?

Dec 17, 2009

I am working with serial port communications. I have very fast and continuous data on my serial port. I have a program to read data from serial port. I have comport.Datareceived event in my program to receive data. Now, the problem is there is data going every 100ms to comport. Will my comport.DataReceived event will receive also with that fast? Now,let's say there is data on comport and if I don't read it what happens to the data? The problem I'm facing is my dataReceived event is getting very slow after some time.If I stop sending data to my com, still my datareceiving program is receiving. That means it is not as fast as sending data.If I keep sending data from 4 to 5 days and coz my datareceived event is not that fast as sending, I am getting data very slowly and some times I am getting MemoryOutofRange Exception.
