I want to sort rows according to the value of the "pts" column.I've tried using using BindingSource.Sort = "pts" but this has had no effect.

Mar 7, 2011Is it possible to have a different selection of values in the 2nd combobox depending what was picked on the first combobox? For example an American state is picked in the first combo box and the second combo box loads the cities in that state? I'm just using a basic form in Visual basic 2010 there is no database behind it.

BindingSource Sort By Substring
May 4, 2010I want to sort the binding source column (Product Code) which formatted like (AA-AAA AAA AAAA)
but i do not want straight sort on product code column, i want the sort as :
substring of 1,2 + 8,3 + 3,3 and then the rest of the column.
I know i can do it in the table direct using the OrderBy and the substring function, but the problem is that sort is not static it is dynamic according to different status means it change the substring order.

Mar 29, 2011I need to sort the rows in a bindingsource. When I sort by a field name, ASC, it works correctly, but when I sort in DESC mode, instead of being the opposite of ASC, it sorts the rows whose fields have the same value in ASC order. For example:
I've got a column with the values A, B, P, P, P and P
ASC: A B P(1) P(2) P(3) P(4)
DESC (as i want it to be): P(4) P(3) P(2) P(1) B A
DESC (as it sorts):P(1) P(2) P(3) P(4) B A
Is there any property in bindingsource which I can use to change this?

Mar 23, 2011I bound datagridview to bindingsource. The bindingsource has its datasource a collection Called Rates which is a collection of Rate items. The rate object has a property called VALUE. I need the user to be able to edit different values for the collection; However, on the datagridview, i need to keep displaying on one column called OldValue the existing Rate value before the change while allowing the user to edit that value in a second column called NewValue.
In other terms, One colum OldValue will keep the existing values from the DB before being edited by the user, this column OldValue is readonly. Another column NewValue will display, the 1st time, the old value from the DB (similar to OldValue when we do the Fetch from the DB), but it`s editable column, so the user can modify each value in the column NewValue without overriding OldValue cells. For now, I bound both columns OldValue and NewValue to the same property VALUE of the Rate object,

Datagridview - Sort Datagrid View Column With Numbers And Texts On Column Header Click?
Feb 13, 2012It seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

Filter BindingSource By Greater And Less Than Values
Apr 11, 2012I thought I had this sussed until I then wanted to filter between two values or greater than or less than two values. I have searched and searched all over the web for this and I just go round in circles. This is so frustrating why is this so difficult to find something so basic (anyway that is my rant). I have something like this but am totally confused and do not understand what I am doing now: how I get this working in plain English.

All variables are populated etc, it seems to go through the DataBindings.Add ok but when the form appears I get the error about unable to bind to a property or column called Id. I tried replacing the DataBindings.Add code to use the BindingSource1 instead of Items but I get a similar error.The names of the properties in the class match that of the name in the Databindings.Add code.

Accessing Individual Values Of A Filtered BindingSource?
Mar 19, 2012A brief about the foundation of the program: I have created a VB2010 Windows Form application that connects to a Microsoft Access database. A datagridview is used to show all the data of the database. Then, a filter is used to filter the dataview (the BindingSource actually) and show the filtered db's data.
Let's say this is how I filter my BindingSource:
MyBindingSource.Filter = " price > '110' "
This would cause the dataGridView to filter the data (correctly), and let's say 10 rows are now displayed. What I am trying to do now is to get the sum of the values of one column of these new data. For example each of the 10 rows have a 'price' column which contains a double value. I would need the sum of these *filtered* values.
I found on the Internet that I may be able to transform the BindingSource into a DataTable and I could, but now I don't know how to access the values inside this!

Have you any links or ideas, or experiences, what is to be done to class derived from System.ComponentModel.Component, in order to show its rectangle in designed form or control. I maybe satified with just making Component shapy. Anything else should be just game. But actually I have no idea how to draw component from its basics. The old report was simply based on an SQL Server 2000 view and worked just fine. However, now I need to use a parameter to filter the data first. To do this, I created an SQL Server 2000 stored procedure that uses one input parameter and then I simply "select *" from the original view and use a "where" clause to filter the records based on that input parameter.

Here is what I need to do is identify the columns with the highest $ figure, the next highest, etc. and mark them so that .NET can identify them (e.g. col3 is highest so rank1 variable is "col3" and so on).So I am dealing with Excel Ojects which is new to me and sorting which is new to me.
