I have a DataTable in a DataGridView, one of the columns has data that I want sorted. I can click on the column header to sort it and it's fine. The problem is that I don't want that column sorted automatically when some of the data changes in it. I want it sorted only when I click on the header.

View 4 RepliesIn a windows form I do have a datagridview. When a user pushes the button, the underlying datasource of the datagridview (a dataview) changes and the new content with new columns is shown. This works fine, only problem is that the header-height differs and that the datagridview does not properly display the smaller headers until I click into the first datarow of the datagridview. Simply using the .refresh()-method of the datagridview after assigning the new datasource does not seem to work.
Here is a little code-snippet showing how I assign a new datasource to the datagridview.

View 27 RepliesI have created an application that uses two forms one is displayed on a touchscreen and is a basic input form, the other is displayed on a large display monitor and is basically an information form, both displays are connected to the same pc. The program works great I have just one annoyance is if the program is restarted it displays both forms on the touchscreen and I have to drag the information form onto the big display. Is there a way to specify on load that each form gets displayed maximized on a certain screen so I don't have to drag one form onto the correct screen?

I don't know if I worded this properly, but I have a mdb query that I display in a Datagrid on my form. The first column is TransactionNumber, which is the primary key and a running total (ex. RackingTransactionKey=RackingTransactionKey + 1). What I need to do is when the form is opened, find the highest (last) TransactionNumber from the query or Datagrid and assign it to a variable (RackingTransactionKey), so I can can update it (+1), therefore generating a unique number so I can add data to the query.

What I'm working on is a video rental project in visual basic 2008. I have a local database which contains info on DVDs, Members and a table for current rentals.The columns i have in the current rentals table are:
MemberID | DVDID | DaysOnRent | DateRented | DueDate | Overdue | TotalPrice
I have this data displayed in a datagridview, but the user adds it through a seperate form (called add a rental) with a 'details' view of the table on it. I've written code to automatically determine the TotalPrice and DueDate of the DVD in the add a rental form.
The Problem:I don't know how to get the database to automatically detect when a DVD is overdue (when todays date is greater than the DueDate).I want it to check it in the column "Overdue" (which is boolean)..so basically what I'm asking is how do i update the overdue column automatically depending on whats in the DueDate?

View 1 RepliesIt seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

Am using the Entity Framework and Columns Completed and Taken are of bit Datatype. When the query results are displayed in the datagridview, these bit columns are returned as of ColumnType Textbox - so i get a Datagridview textbox column with true or false string values.
I want to display Completed and Taken as Checkbox columns (either ticked for True or un-ticked for false) but ofcourse i can't do this in EditColumn dialogue because the Datagridview is unbound.

How to make my forms resize automatically. here's the situation. I have my intro screen, which a user may want to maximise. Once this is maximised, the whole program should stay maximised. Again, if the user chooses to restore the window to its default size, the whole program should remain in that default size. However, once the user clicks the button "Press here to start" on the intro screen, the form automatically reverts to its original size if it was maximised. I also need to be able to stretch the contents in the correct ratios to fit the new screen size.

The problem is this solution is not global. It will only work on text boxes with the name "OWNER_NAME". Writing out hundreds of variations for every text input there might be for name would not be very smart. There must be an easier solution?
