I'm developing a big VB.Net Winforms application. Every now and again, processing or db connections take some time and therefore I'd like a wait cursor (hourglass) to appear sometimes. I know I can do it like in this thread (in case someone needs the code):Hourglass?- technical discussion - developer Fusion - ASP.NET, C# Programming, VB.NET, .NET Framework, Java and Visual Basic Tutorials However, I have LOTS of code and I don't know when the user will need to wait. So, what I'd really want is to tell my ApplicationEvents file or the like to globally intercept after say 0.3 seconds and turn the arrow (default cursor) into the hourglass and at the same time disable mouse clicks and the like.
How can I set the curosr to 'cursor.wait' for the whole display screen and not just for the application form? I have tried "Windows.Forms.Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor" And several variations but without success.
i have have a MDI child form which have different textbox for criteria and a datagridview for result. When i launch the research i change the cursor : me.usewaitcursor = True when it finish i go back me.UseWaitCursor = False It works but some times (not all the time) if you move the cursor over the datagridview during the research, the cursor still in WaitCursor OVER the datagridview, it didn't go back to default but on the rest of the form is good (default arrow).I have tried whith : Me.cursor , cursor or cursor.current but i have the same result/problem.
I have an MDI WinForms app in which the MDI parent form has a ToolStrip, MenuStrip and StatusStrip. Whenever the mouse is moved over one of these controls the cursor changes to a 'wait' cursor (a arrow with an hourglass). This seems to be default behaviour in that there is no code to make this happen. The UseWaitCursor property of both the ToolStrip and MenuStrip is false; StatusStrip does not have this property. This occurs in both debug and release builds and confuses the users who think that the app is 'doing' something when really it isn't! Does anyone know what is causing this to happen, and more importantly how to make it stop?
I am using VB.NET and I would really like to know how to change the Default Wait Cursor, as well as all the other cursors.I can currently change the normal cursor for my form with the following code:
I'm coding an advanced web browser. The bad thing is, is that whenever you move your cursor over the window, a wait cursor is displayed. I tried to deselect the wait cursor but it doesn't work! I'm using Visual Basic 2010 Beta 2...
I have a DataGridView control in my Windows Forms Application. I am adding rows to the grid using a background thread. I change the form's cursor to Waitcursor when the process starts and back to Default when it ends. This works well for the form, but not for the grid. When the form's cursor is changed back to default, the grid's cursor does not change, although the cursor over the rest of the form does.
I am updating the grid from a background thread? (The cursor is being changed from the UI thread directly). The background process raises an event, the handler checks the InvokeRequired property of the grid and decides if it needs to "Invoke" the method again from the main thread. So, in effect the actual UI update happens from the appropriate thread. I am not sure if this means that I am "using a background thread" or not.
When I use the Publish command in the Build menu pillar nothing happens expcept for a few seconds showing the wait cursor. This was working a week or two back but I have now installed sp1 for Visual Studio 2010 - is this a bug or is there some way. I can get this working again. I cannot access the project properties either, which is a known problem with SP1, so how to edit the project.vbproj file.
I have a .net 4 form application. On a button click event, I want to open a form that has a GIF image in a webbrowser control, that says please wait. Then it opens a second form that has a datagridview that is being populated from a SQL query. Then I just hide the wait form. The reason I have resorted to this method is that sometimes it takes a while to display the results from with datagridview depending on what the user selected previously. The issue that I am having is the wait form displays but the GIF does not show up. If I make the application wait by using the following code the GIF show up like it supposed to until the timer runs out. At that point the image stops moving but is still present.
Private Sub wait(ByVal interval As Integer) Dim sw As New Stopwatch sw.Start() Do While sw.ElapsedMilliseconds < interval ' Allows UI to remain responsive Application.DoEvents() Loop sw.Stop() End Sub
My original intent was to use the show method to display the results form and then hide the previous form, but sometimes the previous form would close before I could display the results form.
Making a simple form that is to step through a program iteratively. How can I get it to run a method each time a user clicks a button and wait once it is finished for the next click?
I am trying to fetch some specific data from a file which is updated frequently. So, i am trying to make my form wait till i get a particular data. i am using Threading.Thread.Sleep(10000)to wait and again check the data.
but form is getting hanged (showing NOT RESPONDING)
I am trying to get a form button to load the yahoo login webpage, wait until the send button was loaded and auto enter the username and password and hit the send button. My code is as follows
Public Class WebLogin Dim ie As Object Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click ie = CreateObject("internetexplorer.application")
I have created an application that uses two forms one is displayed on a touchscreen and is a basic input form, the other is displayed on a large display monitor and is basically an information form, both displays are connected to the same pc. The program works great I have just one annoyance is if the program is restarted it displays both forms on the touchscreen and I have to drag the information form onto the big display. Is there a way to specify on load that each form gets displayed maximized on a certain screen so I don't have to drag one form onto the correct screen?
My Startup form open very slow. How can I show a wait screen while Initialize Component. Then close this wait screen and show my Form. You can see my attached image.
I designed a application on vb.net 2005. Some of the forms in this application has databindings controls. Now when such forms loads it takes some time. I want a splash screen containg "Please wait" message to appear till the form loads and the wait splash screen would be shown for every several forms in the application not only before the start up form.
I'd like to make a simple program where my form consists of a textbox and a button. Here's the ide in a nutshell:in form1_load I invoke the sub:
private Sub LoopingLesson() dim i as integer=1 while true
[code]....
what I want is when i hits certain value, like let's just say i is divisible by 365, then the 'while' looping will stop, and a message box saying "target reached" appear. then after I click button1, the looping will resume until it reaches the next number divisible by 365, and so on.
While navigating to a series of sites at one site the WebBrowser control's DocumentCompleted EVENT is tripped and no other recorded Browser events occur after that. When this happens the hour glass cursor indicates the browser is waiting. From this point it take 120 to 250 seconds of wall clock time before the browser resumes. I am looking for a way to force an abnormal termination without destroying the control. I have tried "Stop", "nav to about:blank" repeatedly without success. How can I force an abnormal termination when the Cntrl is in a wait state?
Consider the following: The last known Browser event to be tripped is a Document Complete event; nothing else occurs after this. When this transpires the Cntrl is waiting.
1:50:657: ============================= ENTER WebBrowser1_DocumentCompleted EVENT ======================================== 31:50:657: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THE NEW WEBBROWSER STATEMENT
In my app I have a pause and continue button. I capture the last active control when pause is clicked, change the Backcolor to let the user know where they were, from blue to red and leave the cursor there. What I would like to do without disabling and enabling all the controls on the form is to keep the cursor in the LastActiveControl no matter what until the continue button is clicked. In other words, tab, enter key, mouse click or nothing will make the cursor move until continue is clicked. Sound possible?
How do I get the name of the (topmost?) control at the cursor position? The background: I implemented drag'n'drop from a dgv to a label and need to identify the control where the mouse button is released. I have enabled dropping on the label where the drop is going to take place. However, this label is the parent of say a hundred labels that are created dynamically in codebehind (I use this way to create a "dataview"). Therefore, I need to know which of these "child" labels the user drops the data onto.
I can get the mouseposition without problems (Me.PointToClient(Cursor.Position).ToString), but as I said, I can't get the name/text/ID of the control the user dropped the data on. Also, I ned to get the child control's name/ID/Text, not the parent label of course. In addition, it seems as if I can't select the row I click on in the dgv anymore, after I implemented the DoDragDrop on the CellMouseDown event. Any ideas? Should I use another event?
I'm having a difficult time getting cursor's position within the window I tried using : Cursor.Position.X and Cursor.Position.Y but it returns the position of the cursor on the screen and not in the window...
Is it possible to append text into a RichTextBox1 where the cursor is? (Ex: In-putting a string from TextBox1 to RTB1 where the user has the typing cursor at.)
I am trying to use a windows form as a custom contextmenu which is fine as I have done a form with translucent background colour. However the problem is that I am having problems displaying the form at my cursor position. I have a mdi chaild form in my app and when I right click I want to display my custom contextmenu form at the point where I right click in the mdichild form. The only other thing is that I want the middle of the form to be displayed at the cursor point.
currently I have a Customer Master screen. Inside the screen, I have a button which call the Customer sub window.
When I call the sub window, I want the set the cursor at Textbox1.
The problem is, when I call the window for 1st time, the cursor stops at Textbox1. When I call the window for 2nd or 3rd time, the cursor stops at other textbox or buttons inside the sub window.
Seems like Textbox1.focus is not working.
'***************Calling sub window from main screen********** Private Sub BTN_CUSTOMER_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BTN_SEARCH.Click
I've been trying to use a custom cursor in my program that has 4 forms and a module.

I am having a problem where I am on a text box and try to click a button that will bring up some reports. Since my cursor is still on the text box it doesn't go through the "Leave" and so what I entered into the text box is not saved (this happens in "Leave"). I have read previously not to use "Lost Focus" because it causes problems when you leave the form it triggers the "Lost Focus" on on the fields and just in general to use "Leave" rather than "Lost Focus". Is there a way to force my way through the "Leave"? I also don't know which field my cursor could be on (there are probably 20 text box or combo box fields on this form.
