I am trying to write a random number function that can just be called from my main module to generate different random numbers. I have tried this several different ways and I am having odd results. Approximately 19 times out of 20 the numbers come back exactly the same, but approximately 1 in 20 they come back as two different numbers. Im using Visual Basic Studio 2008. Here is the code I have so far, or rather, the current version of my many tests I have been running to try and figure it out. Sometimes it takes many runs of the program before the two seperate numbers apear.I've been researching it and have come up with nothing so far.I know I could put them in the module section as two different randoms and it works, but I get extra points if i use a couple classes in my program. This is the main module.

Sub Main()

My question is do you have to have different dim randomObject As New Random() for every Sub to produce different numbers? Every single type of game has different range of number. The Sub needs to return the results back as a string. If I request the method each time will I get a different number back from the range? Here is what I have but just so lost.

It seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

I have a program and I get time data from a sqldb and display it in a column in a listbox. What are the proper steps for adding the time as I iterate through the data in the column? I figure I will need to do some conversions on the time to be able to add it and display it as a total.

I am developing an application that automatically checks player numbers in the Irish Lottery.
The code below checks each players 3 numbers against the six drawn numbers and reports on matching numbers and winnings. Each players information is stored in a specialised.string.collection in my.settings as shown below
Susan,3,18,26,2
Colin,4,16,28,1
The following checks the numbers but only the first item in the collection is being displayed in the multiine textbox.

Is there a way to have your program automatically create a proxy for a specific browser, like IE, when your app is running? I was thinking that maybe you could create a VLAN proxy or something and a button on the app to toggle it on and off. But I'm not sure how or if one can do it.
View 1 RepliesI was just wondering if this is possible. I have a site that admins use to add products to our database. The database is in SQL Server 2008 and I use Visual Studio 2010 using VB.net and was hoping that upon addition of a new product, it would automatically generate a folder assigned to that product's ID.I haven't found anything online that would suggest that this is a possibility, but it would make it a lot easier for me. As of right now, I have to remember to create a folder in the X: drive for each product that has been added. We are up to 645 products now,
View 2 RepliesWhat I'm working on is a video rental project in visual basic 2008. I have a local database which contains info on DVDs, Members and a table for current rentals. The columns i have in the current rentals table are:
MemberID | DVDID | DaysOnRent | DateRented | DueDate | Overdue | TotalPrice
I have this data displayed in a datagridview, but the user adds it through a seperate form (called add a rental) with a 'details' view of the table on it. I've written code to automatically determine the TotalPrice and DueDate of the DVD in the add a rental form.
The Problem:I don't know how to get the database to automatically detect when a DVD is overdue (when todays date is greater than the DueDate).I want it to check it in the column "Overdue" (which is boolean)..so basically what I'm asking is how do i update the overdue column automatically depending on whats in the DueDate?
im an amateur programmer making a program for somebody else. i need to get it to run out of the box no problems and i need to find a way to automatically find the desktop for xp but it would be nice if the same code worked on vista/7 to but thats only if its convenient.

I'm making an app on wpf.Basically, I have a list view with 6 columns,For each item of the listview, its details are displayed are displayed in each of the columns, except the first.Basically I want the listview to automatically display a count of the items for the 1st column.[code]I have sorting and other weird stuff happening in the app, and I want to keep the first column constant. All that is needed from the column is that it counts the items.[code]I just realised this isn't vb .net so to speak.I code only on vb .net, but having trouble with that xaml bit atm. Would rather not use vb codes for solving this particular matter if possible
View 1 RepliesI have a DataTable in a DataGridView, one of the columns has data that I want sorted. I can click on the column header to sort it and it's fine. The problem is that I don't want that column sorted automatically when some of the data changes in it. I want it sorted only when I click on the header.

4,3
must be in the datagridviewcolumn:
4,30

50
4000
40
300
30
20
10000

How to override the sort method or something that is called when a user clicks on the column header and the most effective way to sort it programmatically?
Basically. I enter a name and a score. And my program will store them in an array. Then i press "grades" and it provides me with a grade for each name and score entered.BUTi now need an array that will give me a count of how many numbers are in the array.e.g.
1 | James | 56 | Pass
2 | Bob | 98 | High Distinction

View 7 RepliesI have a DataGridView1 where I have 6 columns and 0 rows (they are added additionaly in the application) and also have a TextBox1. How can I calculate all data from the second column to the TextBox1? For example, I'll run the application and add rows, where the text in the second column will be: (4, 8, 9, 1)... it means 4 rows...
So how can I make the value of those numbers (22) show in the TextBox1, so that it will calculate the numbers and show the sum in the TextBox1?
I have program in VB.NET 2008 where I want to update the premamt cell value in the tblPrem Access table, where the premno is the maximum (autogenerated as 1,2,3...), but only within a specified set of common numbers in a column (contno) I am currently saving. This contno is from another table (tblMain) linked in this table (tblPrem) where it is the primary key, and just repeatedly generated after the clicking save button. Here is my current code which saves the data but does not do anything on the textbox1 + textbox2, and has an error message "At most one record can be returned by this subquery":
sqlQrySave = "UPDATE tblPrem SET premamt = " & textbox1 & " + " & textbox2 & " WHERE premno=(SELECT MAX(premno) FROM tblPrem GROUP BY contno);"
What I expect to happen is like this:
contno | premno | premamt
