I am inserting data from my vb.net application to msaccess db.I am confused in way of getting the last inserted record added to a table. IN MS-SQL we get @@IDENTITY for that but it didn't worked for me in MSAccess.
so what should be do for getting the last inserted record added to a table?
i have 2 queries in vb.net with an if clause -
if x=0 then
insert into table1
else
update table1
both queries have 5 fields. now what i want to do is after this insert or update takes place, i need to look at this inserted/updated record and compare it with another table (table2). Especially for update, i have 5 fields in both tables. if any of the 5 fields dont match with table2, then i insert a new record in table 2 which is the updated record in table 1.
I have the following set of code for a Sub program. It's inserting a row into a MSAccess Database using data provided in the containing form. What I would like to do is grab the ID number of this added record so that it can be set for a property of a window that is invoked when successfully added. I tried looking this up but I get something about @@IDENTITY but it's using an entirely different way of connecting.

In my project i have to display the party name in a combobox and the user has to select a particular partyname. For that when the user enters the first character in a combobox all the party name starting with that alphabet has to display in the right hand side. I'm updating an app for children I wrote in VB6 to VB2010. It uses a rather extensive MSAccess Database. It works perfectly but I need to update it to utilize better speech technology. I have read a lot about SQL and can't find how it is useful for anything accept business applications that add, delete or update records as long as you hard code in a name. I don't use datagrids and I never display a table. how to do a few things, I can figure the rest out.

I have a form with a datagrid, few buttons, and textboxes. I can add the new record in data table and can display in datagrid. The problem is that... the new record which i have inserted in data table is been displayed at the last row of datagrid which i am having trouble finding it out whether the data is been inserted or not.
1. my question is how to display new record / row inserted in datagrid at the first, so that i can see the data is been added.
2. how to display numbers of record which i have seleted in data grid e.g. 1 of 20 when i select first row and 2 of 20 when i select second row. i can display only total number of records of datagrid.

I have a crystal report with a bunch of parameterized fields that are being filled by code and displayed through CRViewer. I need to add a few sections in here to execute a query to return a dataset and display this in the same report. I am not sure if the best way to do this with a subreport. I am trying to add a subreport and then set the datasource of the subreport to my dataset, but I cannot get it to work.
Lets say there is a customers table. I have FirstName LastName as parametirized fields displayed on the form along with address and basic customer information.
I want to place a subreport showing all orders this customer has made on the SAME report. The is an association table with multiple orders possible.
The report is being placed in a class that can be called by a VB.NET app. Therefore I cannot create the dataconnection for the subreport in the UI (or maybe I can and pass params later).
I am successfully populating the parameterized field by doing the following:

I want to compress an ms access database using vb.net. If the database is open this fails. How can I close the database, compress it, then reopen the database using vb.net code to accomplish this. I've already successfully written the code for compression, but I can't find anything on closing the database while leaving ms access open.
