Sql Server - SSMS And VB Express .... Cannot Backup
Jul 26, 2011
Let us start with...yes I am new to SQL and really only a lightweight programmer. So I am assuming that I am doing something horribly wrong. I have spent days on the MS forums looking for an answer to no avail. So I am going to give as much info as possible. Application language is VBExpress 2010 and using SQLExpress 2008. The Database contain basic tables, no stored procs, no views, no diagrams. The Application has configured diagrams where one of the tables has inner joins... Tables origninally built in SSMS, but have been altered in VBE.

lately I've been experiencing LinqToSql + Sql Server Express 2005, and it was a great journey (muddy) anyway .... I'm at the point that I want to make a Backup/Restore for the database backup for SSE is as easy as a simple copy paste of the mdf file, but the problem that I can't copy the file while the server is using it, server doesn't let the file go untill the app is closed or after about 4 - 6 minutes of idle time,

I'm trying to figure out a way to save all the stored procedures on a SQL Server 2005instance to text files. One of our developers has made a huge amount of StoredProcedures,and theseneed to be managed somehow between our test / integration and production environments. I know how to retrieve / run / create stored procedures, it's just the "save-to-file" i need.

I am using SQL server express 2005 as an backend. I created a backup file programmatically. If I use same server , then it restore the data successfully. however if we try to restore on different server, then it fails. and throw following message:
"The Backup set Holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'DatabaseName' database. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
On both server, Sql server instance name and database name is same. How can I resolve this error?

Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

I am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

sqlBackup.BackupSetDescription = "ArchiveDataBase:" + DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString()
sqlBackup.BackupSetName = "Archive"
sqlBackup.Database = "data"

I am doing a simple backup of sql server database through VB.NET form. It gets executed well but I want to display details of successful query execution in a label (i.e. time taken, database size etc.)
The message which I want to display in label is like "Processed 296 pages for database 'aaa', file 'aaa' on file 1. Processed 1 pages for database 'aaa', file 'aaa_log' on file 1. BACKUP DATABASE successfully processed 297 pages in 0.522 seconds (4.660 MB/sec)."
This result we get in sql server query window when we execute backup query there. I want to get this message in label when I fire backup query from Windows form in VB.NET

It's probably just a case of me not looking in the right place or not seeing the obvious, but does anyone know if a machine with just version 2.0 of the .NET Framework should be able to run a VB.NET Express application which accesses a SQL Server Express database file? Or is there an additional requirement for a non-development machine to have some kind of SQL Server Express runtime component in addition to the 2.0 Framework?It seems to be counterintuitive to expect that a VB.NET application would be able to access any kind of SQL Server data without having some kind of SQL Server host component (Express or otherwise) installed. But then again, it seems just as counterintuitive that Microsoft would require the download and installation of the new framework as well as a separate database runtime in order for the average user to run an application with accesses a local SQL Server Express database.To me, it runs contrary to the whole concept of XCopy deployment to require more than just the application's files and .NET Framework for an application to run properly. But nothing I've read so far explicitly indicates that a user would require anything more than the app files and the framework to run an application which accesses SQL Server Express data. But...I can't get any VB Express applications which uses a SQL Server Express databases to run on any machine that doesn't have SQL Server Express installed.What am I missing?(Apologies if this isn't the right group to post this in.

I have a little problem with application setting in VB.net 2008. I want to switch main server and backup server connection string with combobox. [Code] It did change the Application Setting connection string in the main form when combobox1 was changed. But the problem comes, when child form was called. On the child form there is DataGridView with Dataset using application connection string. Even the Backupserver was selected on the main form, child form dataset connection string doesn't change. I don't know how to pass the current connection string to child form dataset although it is set to use application setting.

I'm new to SQL Server but have been using Access with Visual Basic for quite some time.I am moving an existing project from Access to SQL Server 2008 Express R2. Using the SSMS I redid a number of Queries and SSMS puts the queies in a folder entitled "Project" which is not pointed at any specific database on the server.When I try to call a query in Visual Basic I get the error "Could not find stored procedure...".
Obviously there is something that I am missing, but I don't know what. Can anyone tell me where I should have these queries filed in SSMS?

how many of you out there in the VB.NET community have installed VS2010 SP1 and are experiencing this issue with the loss of intellisense in SQL Server 2008 R2?I'm holding off installing SP1 because I kind of like the intellisense thingy (though RedGate's SQLPrompt 5 is way better - have it at home).So is this pee-ing you off, have you explored workarounds, tries the hotfixes (that apparently don't work for many setups)?url...Please note that even though Cumulative Update 9 (CU9) was released the month there are still people it does not work for..including a coworker using a similar setup as mine (Win7 Pro, x32) This is a disaster and embarassment for MS IMO

@Title varchar = 0,
@Authors varchar = 0,
[Code].....
I think that I re wrote this query ten times todaday and continue to get errors and don't know what my problem is
There are underlines in red under the 0 in the BookLoanStatus and under all of the parameters in the SQL.
