View 2 RepliesI have an issue in my project I am programming in both Matlab (Matlab2011a) and Visual Basic (VS2008).I've created a .exe file from my matlab code. It works well when I click on it with my mouse.But I need to run it within Visual Basic. I know it's possible to call .exe files with Shell() or Process.Start(), and it works well for files such as firefox.exe or notepad.exe. However, it doesn't work when I call my own .exe file ...It's weird because when I look to the Task Manager while trying to call it (within VB), I can see the process starting and ending, but its output doesn't appear.
View 5 RepliesWill the commands I send to a Process.Start() be obeyed from within the IDE? [code]This doesn't work in the IDE, just gives me a blank window with the full string as the window name, but I'd like to fire up ffmpeg from within the app, wondering if it's an IDE thing or my code. I know some things in Flash work differently in the IDE than the "real" thing, not sure if VS does it too.
View 1 RepliesI understand running the command shell as a process, How would i run multiple arguments in that one process? For example, here's a process to do a netstat.[code]How would I do that with the following commands? I'd like to click one button and have these all run one after the other.[code]
View 7 RepliesI'm attempting to send an email to multiple recipients, via the System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() command. The string I'm using looks like this...
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("mailto:Test1 <test@nowhere.atall>; Test2 <test2@nowhere.atall>;")
The first email shows up correctly in my email program (Windows Mail in this case), but the second email does not show up. If I get rid of the brackets that separate the email from the recipient name (getting rid of the recipient name from the string), then both email addresses will load without problems. It's only when the brackets are included that the problem occurs. I've tracked the specific problem spot to the closing bracket on the first email name. For some reason, everything that follows the closing bracket is ignored.
how do i run my shell Shell("netsh interface ip set address" & Chr(34) & "Local Area Connection" & Chr(34) & "static 10." & IPAddy & ".4") as admin?

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

I have an application (application #1) running with Administrator privileges on Windows 7.
I want application # 1 to start another application (application #2) without Administrator privileges so application #2 is running as a standard user.
Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.
Here's what I currently have:

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.
My app starts an On-Screen Keyboard process like this:
Dim PID as System.Diagnostics.Process
:
PID = Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe")
:
[CODE]...
It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..
I have a program that starts another program after setting the regkeys basically the program continually syncs the calandar of outlook and another application.I set the regkeys than launch the c:sync.exe app. I have tried a simple process.start and launching the process as a thread and they both do the same thing: The other process starts and works as it should but my main program goes "White screen" or "not responding" until the process.start has exited.
I want the process.start to run in the background so if users click in my main app it responds and truly that they can access the context menu of my main app from the taskbar while the process.start is running.
Trying to create a button that when clicked will check to see if a certain process image is running and if that process is running give the process focus. If the process is not running then start the application.

View 5 RepliesSo, let's say that I have a VBA application inside of whatever Office Application. I have created a command-line VB.net program to do all of the fun web-services stuff.Okay, the VBA application calls Shell() to run the command line program. Now, what is the best way to get information (a tracking number for a package) from the VB.net program back into the VBA program?

Since redemption isnt working [URL] - I need to have outlook running to do what I want.For some reason the only time it works is when I have started outlook manually. It doesnt work when I use:
Shell("C:ProgramMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11outlook.exe")
or
Shell("C:ProgramMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11outlook.exe", AppWinStyle.MaximizedFocus)
Do you know how to call the shell command so that the program starts as if I had started it manually?
Whats happening is I run the code below and get the following error "The system cannot find the file specified". I've read that with UseShellExecute set to false that you can't use WorkingDirectory.
Dim Password As String = "password"
Dim SecureStringPassword As New System.Security.SecureString
For Each c As Char In Password

I've created a very basic WF Shell project which runs an EXE (xyz.exe) in the WF Shell project's Resource folder. I can get a command line working from the Shell to open the other EXE (xyz.exe). But, I can't get code to close the Shell project's other EXE (xyz.exe) once it is opened. The xyz.exe windows called by the Shell continues to stay open even if I pass a "close" command line to the Shell.
The following code (which Paul suggested in another posting) will not close the other (xyz.exe) EXE's running process (when called by the Shell). While the Shell seems to be able to return it's called subordinate EXE's (xyz.exe) ID, not sure how to use such an ID to close its process.
Imports System.Diagnostics
Module Module1
Dim resourceFolder As String = Application.StartupPath & "Resources"

I would like to launch a command line exe I created. For now it's a test program that writes Hello World to the console. I can launch it, but the shell window it displays it in only stays for a split second.
I know I can add a line to my console mode program (readline). But I would like to control it from the process launch. I will be using console mode programs that I did not write myself, and many of them don't stall the output. I can't find the right properties and methods to control the default shell behavior!
I'm trying to redirect the output from a command-line application in VB.NET, and for some reason it fails to redirect the output. Here's my code:
Dim myProcess As Process = New Process
myProcess.StartInfo.FileName = "g++"
myProcess.StartInfo.Arguments = CMDLineCommand

I need code, or some instructions how-to-do, app that can perform all, or just basic, assembly commands over some currently active process on PC if that is possible in VB.NET.
View 1 RepliesI am using sub main and no application framework. This gets rid of the single instance option for the program. I want to be able to have my app handle mailto but it needs to be single instance.
I have:
Public Sub Main(ByVal cmdArgs() As String)
Dim tempProcess As Process
[code].....
Dim movie As String = TextBox1.Text
Dim subtitle As String = TextBox2.Text
Dim box As New Process
box.StartInfo.FileName = "MP4Box.exe"
[code].....
When i click a button this code is executed. But it wont execute the command "MP4Box.exe -ttxt " + """" + subtitle + """" Why?
How would I go about starting a new process without it being the child of the calling process.
Example:
Main Program (Caller.exe)
process.start("file.exe")
i use System.Diagnostics.Process.Start to run a process
example :
Dim p As New System.Diagnostics.Process
p = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("D:ProjectApplication.exe")
it works perfectly during run time. but after i deploy to server.... this code did nothing, it did not call out this process
