I have built a recursive file system crawler that amasses file system data from a file share. I use the FileInfo object to get my metrics, however, I am finding that in especially deep file structs, that the ol' 260 character MAX_PATH MS bug crops up ':8-0:'. This puts me in my angry place, since I do not seem to be able to get around it no matter what kind of programmatic tom-foolery I try.
So far, I have tried:- converting to 8.3 format --> no good path + filename STILL is > 260 (believe it or not) - tried to go with a Straight low-level API approach
What I have found is some pretty Sketchy information regarding VB implementation of the kernel32 api's in this regard (just try & find a createfile port for vb.net, I couldnt)
Anyway, I guess I was hoping that someone else has run into this pain, and knows how to make a surefire way to get a file's information (size, dates esp), regardless of how long and painful the path may in fact be...

I'm attempting to use a ProgressBar to show while I'm loading a database. The table I'm loading isn't exceptionally large (about 7900 records), but my program nevertheless takes 39 seconds to load it! I think this is a little too long for a wait cursor, but I'm having problems figuring out how to use the ProgressBar properly.
I would show you what I've got in the way of code, but I trashed it (accidentally) and would like to start over the right way. Please just point me to some tutorials that make sense (if possible) or any code snippets, etc.P.S. I'm loading the database from a button_click event on my main form, which (eventually) raises my 2nd form which has the database displayed in a datagridview control.
I have an application that requires data be entered, and after entering, a button is clicked to process that data. Clicking the button works just as it should--the data is processed properly. In constructing a test module, I provide a set of data values, followed by:
btnWhatever.PerformClick()
Nothing happens. I have used this syntax for years, and it has always worked flawlessly. I have triple checked everything else and isolated the problem to the failure of the PerformClick(). The PerformClick() is in a test subroutine that does nothing but fill textboxes and labels with default data, then calls the PerformClick() on the button to begin processing. Again, the button works fine, the data is entered as it should be, but the PerformClick() does not fire the click event.

im doing a program where you type a teams name into a text box and it displays each player on the team and there batting average. but i also have another program within the form on a different tab and the program on the first tab works fine but when i swith to the second tab my program does not work. I'm using vb2008 with DB MSA2007 (save it to MSA2003) on Seven(7)System After I create my project I build it(make exe). then I took the file of project (application) and the DB from Debug Folder.
I tried to run this application with DB on another computer it's system is seven and MSA2007 and work very well. then I run it on pc it's system XP and MSA2003. it showed this error

Is there a way to make ProgressBarRenderer.DrawHorizontalChunks actually work the same as the standard ProgressBar rendering?
If you create a Class that Inherits ProgressBar and override the OnPaint event then you have to render the Empty ProgressBar and it's fill% manually. This pretty easy with the ProgressBarRenderer. However, the DrawHorizontalChunks function is ugly compared to how a standard ProgressBar renders itself.

I also have a second more minor issue in that I Shadowed the value property (for various reasons), so PerformStep (which then has to be Shadowed to keep the Value property in check) causes it to increase in blocks rather than smoothly growing between the two Values (old value growing to old value + step); the only solution I can see is to extend the code in the Shadows Sub PerformStep code to move the Value property gradually between the old and new values.

Has anyone succeeded in creating a class library solution/project in VB.net VS2010 4.0 Net Framework for COM to run on WindowsXP Excel 2003. I created a dll which changed specific data in an excel worksheet. The dll worked just fine on the development computer but wont work on any other. I downloaded .NET 4 framework onto the target PCs and used RegAsm.exe to register both the .dll and .tlb files in the registry. That worked OK and the dll is visible as a reference in excel and can be ticked. The error message I get is RunTime Error -2147024894(80070002): Automation Error The System cannot find the file specified.
I also tried creating a Setup and Deploy project in the original development solution but this created just a vbproj setup file which the target PC cannot read (no VS installed), I hoped the project would create an EXE file I could use. Does anyone know any links that describe how to do this type of stuff as most links I have tried are either for Windows Forms projects are are way above my knowledge. Maybe someone out there has already succeeded with this sort of activity?
I have Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition. I'm using it to evaluate functionality before purchasing the real thing, but I'm having trouble. I want to build a DLL that can be used on PCs other than my development PC, that I can call from VBScript.
I follow the hundreds of examples out on the intranet and things still don't work.I have built a simple HelloWorld DLL with a function that returns "Hello World".I've been through all the stuff about making the assembly COM visible, and the threads about Register for COM Interop checkbox missing. One person suggested editing the .vbproj file and adding a tag to turn on Regiser for COM Interop (which was not needed because it was already there).
Anyway, if I build my project and run my VBScript:

Everything works great. But....if I copy the DLL to another PC and register it with RegAsm, the VBScript fails with a "File not found" error on the CreateObject line of the VBScript.
In fact, if I unregister the DLL on my development PC and then register it with RegAsm, the VBScript now fails on my development PC. RegAsm said everything was okay and if I look in the registery using RegEdit, things look good, but it still doesn't work. The only way to get it to work again is to rebuild the DLL (which in turn, registers the DLL).
I'd like to be able to build a DLL which I can be registered and used on other PCs (without requiring those PCs to have Visual Studio 2010 EE and without requiring them to have the source and build the DLL).

Its my understanding that by adding the ScaffoldColumn(false) annotation to an property in a class, that property will not added to the view when doing Add View. However even though i have added scaffoldcolumn false to properties i dont want added to a Create form, they are still rendered inthe create view. Is ScaffoldColumn broken? I have an issue with my .NET application and it can only be reproduced sometimes and only on client's location, which makes it extremely difficult to resolve. In the application the forms authentication is used. There is a login page to which every anonymous user is redirected. After user enters username and password, it redirects to DefaultURL or some predefined page. The problem is that sometimes when user enters correct username and password, it doesn't login, instead it just refreshes the login page without any error messages. After several tries of inputing username and password, user is able to login to the system.
