Form Takes Forever To Load?

Aug 3, 2010

Ok, this might be something stupid that im not doing right, but here is my problem. Im moving from my 1st form, a small window, into my second form, that is full screen, but it takes like 4-5 seconds to load the full form. It sucks because during this 4-5 second load time, parts of the form at transparent and it just look bad. I think it might be because i have around 35 labels and a few other objects on the form. Does anyone know a way to make this not happen? Im in VB08.

.net - Tidying A Complicated If-else Statement?

Apr 20, 2011

I'm trying to find a tidy way to set a string using an if else statement according to a numeric value. The only complication is that there is a possibility that this value may contain text. So it needs to handle that situation too.

So this is the basic code:

If cint(QtyShop) > 0 Then
msg = "Stock found in this shop"
ElseIf cint(QtyAllShops) > 0 Then

Complicated To Convert Program From VB 6 To .Net?

Nov 15, 2010

I have a program I made in VB 6 which has probably hundreds of thousands of lines of code.

Is it complicated to convert it to VB.Net or is it not worth it?

My main problem is that VB 6 doesn't work in Win 7 so I need to use the XP emulator each time I make an update.

My.application.networkavailabilitychanged Takes Forever To Fire

Feb 9, 2010

I am working with the my.application partial class and I was trying to launch some events off of the networkavailabilitychanged event and what I have noticed is that it takes 9-10 seconds to fire that event if I disable wi-fi and pull the LAN cable on my development machine. What I would like to do is significantly shorten this duration. Something like 100ms would be great. If no, what else can I poke for a network status that will handle this response time?

VS 2008 - First Instance Of Program Runs Forever

Aug 9, 2009

I wrote a simple auto login script to update my IP address on a certain website. Something really strange is happening now though. The first time I run the program, nothing happens. However, the second time I run the program, that instance will work fine. Then I look in task manager, and the first program is still running, using a whopping 50% of my CPU. I believe VB may be blocking off memory or something, as when two instances are running each is using around 25% of CPU. Then after the second one successfully completes, the first starts to use 50% again.

Here's my code below:
Option Strict Off
Public Class frmTest
Private Sub frmTest_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

VS 2010 Drawing Complicated Pattern

Aug 13, 2010

I am refining my VS2010 control renderers and I'm working on the TabControl at the moment. If you take a screenshot of the VS2010 IDE and zoom in on the background of the TabControl (where there are no tabs), then you might see that it consists of a pattern of dots with a slightly different color than the surrounding background. I am trying to draw these dots (yes, I'm going for perfection), but I cannot find a brush that allows me to do this.I am pretty sure I'd have to use a HatchBrush with the right HatchStyle, but I cannot find a matching style. Here is a screenshot showing:

1. The VS2010 background I'm trying to draw (higher contrast and brightness otherwise it's hardly visible),

2. The HatchStyle that is closest to this (DottedDiamond)

3. Why this HatchStyle is not correct (it's missing dots where the green dots are, which I photoshopped in).

Now of course I'm going to have to draw the pattern twice (there are two patterns, offset by 1 pixel, with a slightly different color), but the more pressing problem is the green dots seen in the third image. They aren't there with the DottedDiamond style, and no other style (I think I've tried them all, but hey I might have missed some..) produces a better output.

.NET Have Built-in Techniques For More Complicated Forms Of Iteration

Jun 11, 2011

Does .NET have built-in techniques for more complicated forms of iteration like the following:

1. Iterate over rearrangements of a list.

2. Iterate over subsets of a list.

3. Iterate over all indexes of a multidimensional list.

4. Iterate over all "combinations" of a list, i.e. all subsets of a list of a given length, where subsets that differs only in their ordering occur only once total.

I recently had cause to do (1) and my method was ugly, slow, tedious, and generalized poorly, which is why I ask. I can think of better ways, but it was garbage code anyway [brute force checking that there are precisely 576 seven-digit numbers made up of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 that are also divisible by 11]. The others are just for my own curiosity.

ASP.NET VB Nested Listviews

Mar 29, 2011

I have an outer listview and inside its itemtemplate an inner listview. Each has its own SQLDataSource. A Id field from the outerlistview works as a select parameter for the second listview.

When stepping through with the debugger it works perfectly, unfortunately the rendered page only contains data from the outer listview. It appears the databinding of the outer listview fires and renders the page (including the inner listview) before the codebehind can provide a where parameter to the second listview. The aspx page is below.

Drag And Drop With ListViews

Jul 7, 2011

I am currently making an application manager program that allows users to create application shortcuts which are represented as ListViewItems. One feature that my testers keep suggesting is way to drag a normal desktop shortcut into my application, thus avoiding having to recreate lots of application shortcuts.I am pretty clueless as to how to accomplish this, if it is even possible. However, if it can be done, the information i need to extract from the shortcuts are: The name of the shortcut, The associated icon location/file, A description of the program (if there is one), and the executable file location. Also, in the same boat as shortcut drag and drop, just not as difficult- I also am wondering how i could drag and drop ListViewItems into different orders and/or groups.

VS 2010 Multiple Listviews On A Form, Select?

I built a form that has 3 Listview objects. Each Listview contains items, the user is to select an item from a Listview and click a button that moves the item "up" or "down" to an adjacent Listview.I am having a difficult time "knowing" which Listview item has been selected. The problem arises once a user has clicked items from different Listviews. Even though, visually, only one item is selected in one Listview, the program still detects a selection from other Listviews.
