Complicated To Convert Program From VB 6 To .Net?
Nov 15, 2010I have a program I made in VB 6 which has probably hundreds of thousands of lines of code.
Is it complicated to convert it to VB.Net or is it not worth it?
My main problem is that VB 6 doesn't work in Win 7 so I need to use the XP emulator each time I make an update.

I'm looking for an example that disables Ctrl+Alt+Del when the app starts, and enables the combination again once it finishes.I found an example that disables the combination on Windows XP, however it doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Why? Is it not allowed on Windows 7 to disable Ctrl-Alt-Del?Also, I'd like to know how to run an application as admin on Windows 7?

Jun 1, 2009I am using a 3rd part dll file (SolidWorks EModelView.dll, COM file) that has a version of 9.2.0.128. When I add it to the resources for the application, however, the AxInteropEModelView.DLL and InteropEModelView.DLL references show a version of 9.0.0.0. When I install the application on a client machine and try to run it, the application says it cannot find AxInteropEModelView.DLL version 9.2.0.128!

Aug 13, 2010I am refining my VS2010 control renderers and I'm working on the TabControl at the moment. If you take a screenshot of the VS2010 IDE and zoom in on the background of the TabControl (where there are no tabs), then you might see that it consists of a pattern of dots with a slightly different color than the surrounding background. I am trying to draw these dots (yes, I'm going for perfection), but I cannot find a brush that allows me to do this.I am pretty sure I'd have to use a HatchBrush with the right HatchStyle, but I cannot find a matching style.Here is a screenshot showing:
1. The VS2010 background I'm trying to draw (higher contrast and brightness otherwise it's hardly visible),
2. The HatchStyle that is closest to this (DottedDiamond)
3. Why this HatchStyle is not correct (it's missing dots where the green dots are, which I photoshopped in).
Now of course I'm going to have to draw the pattern twice (there are two patterns, offset by 1 pixel, with a slightly different color), but the more pressing problem is the green dots seen in the third image. They aren't there with the DottedDiamond style, and no other style (I think I've tried them all, but hey I might have missed some..) produces a better output.

Apr 30, 2011I developed a small application which accesses a MS access database on my computer using VB.net. I developed the program on windows xp 32 bit. At the moment I am using windows 7 64 bit and the program simply will not run. I get a null reference exception when I try to do anything to the database. I have narrowed this down i THINK to the db provider. I was using Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; and tried using Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;. Neither seems to work. The path to my database is 100% correct. This is the error I am getting:
Null reference exception was unhandled.Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Like I say the program runs fine on the windows xp machine. If it helps the access database file extension is mdb.
Windows Application + Accessing From Outside The Local Network?
Jul 12, 2011I have developed a windows application for my company. It is a multi user software and we are using sql 2008 as the database. The sql 2008 is installed in our company server. Within our LAN, there is no problem in accessing the software and its working pretty fine.
Now the problem is, some of the managers need to go out frequently(for business tour and all) and they need access to this software. The software is already installed in their laptops.Is there any way to access the database that is in our company server ???
We have few static IPs with us, is there any way i can use that here (Using NAT in the firewall or something)?
