VS 2008 - CauseValidation Not Working For Textbox
Jan 27, 2011I have a form1 that calls a form4. In form4 I have a cancel button, and a textbox. I have causevalidation set to false for this button when the Form4_FormClosing loads up, however when I hit the button to cancel it still asks me to validate the textbox. I'm not sure why causevalidation is not working in the child form.

VS 2008 SetScrollInfo Not Working In Textbox?

Basically the call is working as it sets the position of the scroll bar... but the text does not scroll and is still at the last position that the scroll bar was in - when clicking on the scroll bar the text scrolls to the correct location

Working On A Program That Takes Input From A Textbox?
Aug 31, 2011I've been working on a program that takes input from a textbox, removes the punctuation, puts the words into an array (using the split method), and compares the array against a reversed copy of itself to determine if it is a word palindrome or not. I understand the logic, but I'm getting kind of caught up as far as what code to us. This is what I have so far, but no matter what I enter into the text box, nothing happens. Jan 23, 2009in my form, i have a textbox in which its visible property is set to false. this textbox is bound to my table's primary key column.
whenever i try to add a new record, it automatically generates a value and i can see that when the visible property is set to true. now when i set it to false and do a messagebox.show(textbox.text), it shows no value. so i set the visible to true and then the messagebox does show a value.
i don't want this textbox shown in my form but i need to get the value from the textbox when the primary key value is generated.
how can i do this without showing the textbox?

VS 2008 Cannot Seem To Get A Working Filter In Working Order
Jun 18, 2009It appears that my favorite thing in the world is tackling projects that are beyond my current knowledge and abilities. I have a little project that I am working on which is a simple image viewer stocked with (upon completion) your standard Load..., Next/Previous, Zoom In/Out, Actual Size, and Full Screen capabilities. However, I am running into a few snags:
(1) I've been able to get my "Load..." button to display a file dialog box, but I cannot seem to get a working filter (with which only image file types are allowed to be selected) in working order.
(2) I have a PictureBox object (entitled PictureBox1) that displays the image selected via the file dialog box, but it loads images in their full size (1:1/100% zoomed) state without scrollbars, etc. to allow me to navigate the loaded image. I would like to have it load the image, initially, to fit within the dimensions of PictureBox1 and from there be able to zoom in/out via my "Zoom In/Out" and "Actual Size" buttons and be able to scroll if the zoom level is beyond the dimensions of PictureBox1.
(3) It dawned on me that I haven't the faintest idea how to get my "Next/Previous" buttons to allow the user (me) to navigate, in succession, the images contained in the folder in which the currently loaded image is stored. [code]
If it is deemed that this thread is inappropriately requesting help, I ask that it be locked/deleted quickly as I recognize that this is a large community with many discussions going without need of unwelcome posts.

.net - Decimal.TryParse Is Failing On TextBox.Leave And TextBox.LostFocus?
Dec 22, 2010I have a TextBox in a Windows Forms application in VB 2008 (.NET 3.5) where a user can key an estimate amount. I am allowing them to key dollars and cents, and I want to round to the nearest dollar. The original code had the rounding down when the data was written back to a table, and that worked fine - I have this code in a "Save" routine that fires when the user moves to a different screen or record:

I decided that it might be nice to actually do the rounding as soon as they leave the field instead, so they're not surprised when they reload the screen and find that 1822.60 is now 1823. So I took the exact same code and added it to the TextBox.Leave event handler. And the weirdest thing happened: instead of the variable est being populated with 1822.60 after the parse, it gets set to -1! What the...?
Debugging the handler shows that the value goes into the parser correctly, and if I do the parsing manually via the Immediate window, it parses correctly, but when I let the code do it, it invariably gets set to -1. What's even weirder is that any number gets parsed as -1, not just decimals, and any non-number gets parsed as 0 (which is correct).
Has anybody else ever run into this before? I tried moving the code to the TextBox.LostFocus event instead, but with the same results. I have no idea what in the heck is going on, and obviously there are workarounds galore for this, but it just makes no sense whatsoever.
EDIT: Here's the full event handler (current behavior for which is to put -1 in the TextBox):
