View 2 RepliesI want to update my database( using a file from my root folder )every hour even when my web page /form is not openedin the browser..
View 2 RepliesI have an application that performs database queries using "Imports System.Data.SqlClient". I want to display an animated GIF on the taskbar which spins while the query is running. However, during a query the application simply hangs and does not update the GUI until the query has finished, at which point the spinning icon is set to invisible anyway. Is there any way to force the GUI to update while the query runs?
View 2 RepliesI have created a porcess that manipulates large volumes of text. I have created a form that has a button that manually starts the process. I have tried to give some feedback that the process is actually progressing through the data by changing the value of text fields on the form. However the text fields do not update on the form until after the process is complete. I had this working in another program but cannot figure out what I am doing different.I use the following code to change the text.[code]
View 2 Repliesi'm trying to make a login form connected to an sql server database. my data base has records like this:
fname - lname - minit
each name in a separate column, and i wanted to use the name as the login username, so in the dataset designer i made a new column and concatenated the names together like this: lname+fname+minit but at Dim dr As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader i get this error:
"Invalid column name 'username'. Invalid column name 'username'."
i'm asuming that's because username doesn't actually exists in the database, only in the dataset.is there a way to get that to work with out the username column actually existing in the database?
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class LoginForm

I would like to run a .exe file made with visual studio 2003 but I get an error every time I run it on a windows 7 machine, vista machine, and xp machine. The error on Windows 7 and vista says "application has stopped working" and then makes me close the error box. In windows xp it's a little different error, "the application failed to operate (0xc0000135) Click on OK to terminate the application."
View 3 RepliesI was wondering how you update a program made in vb.net. I know that when you click "Publish" you do a bunch of crap and it shows if you want your program to check for updates.
View 1 RepliesWhen I click on the Save button in the interface it executes the SaveData() steps. But I am being told that I need to update the date stamp on the Access file. How I would make this change?

Handles ProblemTableBindingNavigatorSaveItem.Click
SaveData()
End Sub
Private Sub SaveData()

How would i make my program update the changes made to the current document. And if it hasnt been saved yet make it show my save as dialog?
View 1 RepliesI have created a form that contains a DataGridView with data from a SQL Database. After viewing, the user will want to update checkbox fields in a single column of the DataGridView This action needs to update the SQL Database. I have set the "ReadOnly" to false on all the columns of the form and placed an "Edit" button on the form which changes the ReadOnly Property to True on the Column where changes would be allowed. How do I then set the binding to update the Sql with the changes made by the user?
View 3 RepliesI have a form set up where I want to run the function PopulateGrid on it's Form_Load event. I have initialized the DB connection as follows:
Private Sub Main_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
LoadConfigFile()
cn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & config("DatabasePath") & ";")
cn.Open()
End Sub
Now, I want to run the PopulateGrid function directly after I connect to the database as shown above. I'm confused as to how I'd use a database query in a module when the database is initialized in my main form. Would simple setting the variable cn to public work?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to update a Database via a form. In the update button I Have the below code
HTML
Dim bm As BindingManagerBase = frmFindCustomer.DataGridView1.BindingContext( _
frmFindCustomer.DataGridView1.DataSource, frmFindCustomer.DataGridView1.DataMember)
dr = CType(bm.Current, DataRowView).Row
'This gets a reference to the row currently being edited
'dr.BeginEdit()

I do not get any error messages but the database is not getting updated.
It's an appointment scheduler with a calendar layout. You double click a time slot, window pops open for info, then you click save and it saves/updates. Based on which doctor you select from a drop down list, only their patients will show and any appointments you add will be assigned to that doctor. I got that working.Then I wanted to see if I could use a custom form rather than the default popup form, so just as a test, I threw some textboxes on the main form to see if I could get the data from them. Those worked too.Now, when I try adding a new form that will pop up with those same textboxes on it, I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Here is my code:
Code: With TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet1 Try Dim NR As TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet.AppointmentRow NR = TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet3.Appointment.NewAppointmentRow NR.ID = Form1.txtOwner.Text NR.Patient_Name = txtFirstName.Text + txtLastName.Text 'NR.Reason1 = txtReason.Text 'NR.Phone1 =
[code]....
That's in the save button routine. I was getting this error at every TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet line, and for some reason VS has about 6 different numbered versions of this. I don't know why there are so many, but I think that may be why it's screwing up. I got rid of all but one of those errors by trying each numbered version of the data set until the error went away, but now I can't get the last one away. I commented in the code above where the error occurs.
I am trying to update my database from an Edit Contact form and I keep getting a syntax error on my update statement.

"City = '" & txtCityAdd.Text & "'," & _

View 5 RepliesI use a DataGridView to Add/Edit/Delete records from an Access database. Doing those 3 things is working just fine. When I try to update the database with the new Table data, nothing happens. I need to basically overwrite the table in the database with the data that was added, edited or deleted in the DataGridView. I opened the connection and got the table data like this
[code]...
I've seen used the datagridview to save the changes.
I don't use a dgv, but rather I connect directly to access and when a text field has text in it, it takes that text and searches, and updates various text boxes with the according information (finds a row, and takes all the data in the columns and adds it into their respective box). There are approximately 5-7 text boxes being used at the same time, and only a few will be changed.
How would I go about updating and saving through the VB program?
Here are some relevant pieces of code:

I have a MS Access database file that I can view with a DataGridView, but I can not save the changes made. User should be able to modify data, and when pressing the "Save" button, these changes should be reflected on the database. That is not happening.I know this is a common question, but I have read dozens of pages trying yo get this to work.
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Public Class Form1
Dim con1 As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=T:JaimeTest.mdb;Persist Security Info=False")
Dim sql As String = "SELECT * FROM Table1"

I have made a custom Control in vb.net and I want to add it to my form during runtime but have no idea how to do it in vb.net.
I am used to working with vb6.0 and now trying to learn how to do it in vb.net
I need a fast and simple way of adding a control (which I made) to a form during runtime..
I made a form with a width of 600 and a height of 600. When to "Paint' event andwrote"e.Graphics.DrawLine(Pens.Blue,0,0,Me.Width,Me.Height). I expected a line from the top left conner to the bottm right corner. NO NO NO it fell short on the x(width) axis. I do not know who came up with drawing in boxes, but I HATE IT.
View 3 RepliesI have made a form to connect to a SqlServer but i have hit a dead end as the PHPMyAdmin password table is encrypted so the Login only works when you enter the encrypted password in. Is they anyway to decode the password so the password can be read?
