Updating Database Error : Invalid Column Name 'testtx2'
Nov 17, 2009
I have written the following lines of code
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.OleDb
[code]....
When I run the program, it comes back with the error message
Invalid column name 'testtx2'
I perhaps need to add that s_name is a valid field name in the customer table.

I have an access table that I'm loading into a dataset, then I'm binding the dataset to a bindingsource. The bindingsource is the datasource for a datagridview. I can use a command builder to update the entire table, but I need to update all the rows (or changed rows) in specific columns. I have a column called "dPrint" which is Boolean. I'm not sure how to use the bindingsource as my datasource in an Update Command. I've tried this:

Is there any literature which guides a user through the steps of deploying a vb project created with VS 2010 Professional and incorporating SQL 2008RE Database?
I have a VB project which incorporates 2 databases - 1 Access Db and 1 SQL Db. The project compiles and runs beautifully. However, after adding the databases in the project as existing items and deploying, the project opens/runs, but when I try to login the application I keep getting an error message telling me that the path to the .mdb (Access) database is not a valid path. I don't have a clue what else to do.

I am getting an exception and I don't know how to remedy it. The history is that, in my inexperience, I had asked for the creation of an ODBC data source using a remote SQL Server, and specified caching of certain tables.Then I noticed that this was getting complicated and I tried to not have those tables cached.Columns like 'LastEditDate' had gotten added to those tables.I abandoned using ODBC and went with SqlClient instead. I started getting the error described below re "Invalid column name 'LastEditDate'" even though I never refer to or use such a column. I searched my computer for files containing this string and deleted them. The error kept occurring. I removed all the columns called 'LastEditDate' from the SQL Server database. The error kept occurring. I started my Visual Basic.Net 2008 project over with a different name.The error still keeps occurring.Fragment from a class (form) containing a sub called SyRefresh:
Case "STOCKDATA"
sCell = sData.Split(",")[code].....
dc is a datacontext associated with a SQL Server instance on a server somewhere on the Internet.That remote SQL Server is version 2000. As you can see above, I use Linq.

The second is when I try to save an update in tells me "No value given for one or more required parameters". I'm not sure why this is happening as before I added in Contact Deatails it saved fine.

My program creates columns at runtime with the following code:
Cmd = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("ALTER TABLE [Parent] ADD [" & ColumnDate & "] int", con)
objCmd = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("ALTER TABLE [Parent] ADD [" & ColumnDate & "] int", con)
objCmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
I add data into the newly inserted column with the following code:
da.SelectCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand(sql, con)
Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(da)
cb.QuotePrefix = "["
cb.QuoteSuffix = "]"
ds.Tables("SchoolMaticsDatabase").Rows(inc).Item(ColumnDate) = Hours * Num
da.Update(ds, "SchoolMaticsDatabase")
All of the above works fine; the issue arises when I try to edit the information originally placed in the newly added column. These are the approaches that I have taken. (None of them give an error message; it simply won't update within the database.)
da.SelectCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand(sql, con)
Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(da)
cb.QuotePrefix = "["
[code]....
I added a column to the table manually via opening the access database and all the above approaches work for editing data stored in that column. So I believe it is something to do with the fact that the columns are created at run time.
