Invalid Path To Database Error Message After Deploying Project Created In Program2010
Jul 6, 2011
Is there any literature which guides a user through the steps of deploying a vb project created with VS 2010 Professional and incorporating SQL 2008RE Database?
I have a VB project which incorporates 2 databases - 1 Access Db and 1 SQL Db. The project compiles and runs beautifully. However, after adding the databases in the project as existing items and deploying, the project opens/runs, but when I try to login the application I keep getting an error message telling me that the path to the .mdb (Access) database is not a valid path. I don't have a clue what else to do.
I'm using Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. I have a Folder Dialog Browser added in my form and I call it when the user presses a button. The folder path string is stored in a string variable and displayed as text in a text box. (maybe I should use a combo box)
My question is: If the user inputs by hand a non existent path, how do I return an error message, stop the file creation into the invalid path, and return to my main form?

I am working on a program where a user either enters "small" or "large" and then the number of toppings. Once the user has done that my program outputs the total cost of a pizza based on user input. If they enter something else besides a number in the txtNumberOfToppings I am trying to show they message box that says "Re-Enter a valid number!" Likewise I am trying to display the error message "Re-enter a number that is 0 or greater!" If they enter a negative number into the textbox. However they do not display when I do enter invalid input.
My Code Author: Adam Fandre Description: User enters the words "SMALL" or "LARGE" and then the number of toppings And program then displays cost based on user input. Comments: Finished Option Explicit On Option Strict On [Code] .....
I'm updating an old VS 2003 project to VS 2010. Part of the application uses the old JRO COM object to compact the database. That seems to be depreciated in 2010.
im getting error after I run an UPDATE sql query and the datagridview needs to update....not sure what the problem is. heres my code, first block is what the program does on load, the second block is where im getting the problem.
Code: Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click Module1.Main()
I'm using a stored procedure to fill my dataset. The stored procedure retrieves the data from a view named "vwMedicalRecords". When I bind the result to a windows DataGridView control for the first time the binding work fine but the second time it fails with the above error message.
I placed a refresh button on the form which I use to rebind the datagridview (reloading data). So the first time as I mention its working fine the second time fails third time work fine fourth time fails and so on.
I have problem in calling DLL file in VB.Net that I had Created it in C++... it give me this error message: "An unhandled exception of type 'System.EntryPointNotFoundException' occurred in test_dll_1.exe. Additional information: Unable to find an entry point named 'add_1' in DLL 't1.dll'."
This is my code in C++ (header file)
[CODE]............
The one in the main
#include "header_1.h"
double add_1(double a, double b){ return (a+b);
[CODE].....................
This code only for creating dll and I did created it correctly and i had tested it in c++ and it did works.... but in the Vb.net I had no luck with it...This is the code that I wrote it in the VB.net
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Public Class Form1
<DllImport("t1.dll")> Public Shared Function add_1(ByVal a1 As Double, ByVal a2 As Double) As Double
End Function
[CODE].....................
And, I did put the .dll file in the bin folder, but also with no luck...
I lust started a class for visual basic. I installed the program I have vista. The program installed just fine. My problem is I go to file and try to open and new project and recieve an error message "Reguested registry access not allowed". Therfor I can not start a new project for my class.
Why does my VB.Net Project disappear instead of giving an error message? This only started happening recently, but when debugging with Visual Studios instead of getting errors, the program just closes as though the stop button was pressed. This doesn't happen for all error types but it consistently happens if there is some sort of casting error. This is an overly simplified example, but the lines below would cause a program to vanish as soon as they run. Dim i As Integer i = "A" One other interesting part of this is that if that was in a try catch block the error would be caught instead of closing the program.I'm in an office setting so I've been able to test a number of configurations and have found that this problem only affects Windows XP PCs, but not Windows 7. And it consistently happens with Visual Studios 2010 Professional and Ultimate, Visual Studios 2008. Besides that we apparently we all need Windows 7.
I have a problem i have made setup of my project when i install it and run the program it asks for the complete path of database like this "C:PaymentsystemPaymentSysteminDebug".
Is there any way i want to change the path i mean i want to place database in d drive.
I created a project some time ago with VB5. However, now when I attempt to open it with VB5, I get the following error:etained" is an invalid keyI opened the project file with WordPad and the value of Retained = 0.hat this error means and how to correct it so that I can load the project?
I recently upgraded the MS SQL Server installed on my personal computer from 2005 Express to 2008 Express. Problem is when I try to add an SQL database file to a project using VS 2005 I get an error message saying that the version of my database server is not supported, I must have SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later installed. I didn't do it yet but I'm pretty sure that when I open the other projects that I included a database file to it, I'm going to get the same error. My question is it possible to have two SQL Servers installed on my machine? If so, is it a good idea to have two DB servers in the same machine?
I have a project that uses web references to make SOAP calls to several web services. When I'm working locally, the services are hosted on my local machine, so the URL of each web service is something like [URL]. When I deploy the project to a server, the URL needs to change to the production URL. Currently I am accomplishing this with a prebuild event that does a find-and-replace on each URL and overwrites it with the deployment URL before deploying. Surely there is a better way.
I am getting the following error when trying to open a vb .net 1.0 project using VS2002."Unable to open Web project 'ProjectName'.The file path 'FilePath' does not correspond to the URL 'ProjectURL'. The two need to map to the same server location. HTTP 404: Object Not Found."I have tried ALL of the links that Google threw at me (on the first page) on searching on "unable to open web project the two need to map to the same server location" term.I get this error when trying to open an existing vb.net 1.0 project and also when creating a new one.
When I reference the com-enabled .net dll in a VB6.0 project, how do I make an installer so the com-enabled .net dll will be registered on target machines? It seems I cannot use regsvr32.exe itself to register it so I have doubts that using the P&D wizard will not be able to properly register it.
how to get my compiled program onto another computer. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Professional.
I've read and tried ClickOnce deployment and Setup Installer, but I'm not getting it right.
With ClickOnce, I manage to install the program and it has the menu item and icon in the Start menu, but when I try and run it, it tells me that it can't find the text file. I put the file in the bin Debug and Release folders, selected 'Build' then 'Publish' and still no go.
I tried the other option of creating an Installer (using [URL] as my guide), but I get the same error - the txt file can't be found.
I've done this several times, but just can't seem to get it to work. Other resources online, like YouTube, just cover a project that doesn't include a text file or database file etc.
I am ready to deploy my vb.net project to my client computer. In my development computer I have crystal report 9, sql server express and .net frame work 3.5 installed. My Client computer hasn't got anything installed there.I am trying to making msi installer so that it will be easy for my client to install.I created the new solutions -> setup type project, added the project on it and build it.it successfully created the msi installer but it doesn't installs the sql server express and crystal report. How do i make the installer with crystal report and sql server and also with db
When a user click the .msi, i want a folder called "Your Files", which comes with two small images by default, to be created in C:UsersYourNameDocuments. In short, MyDocuments.
What i did is put the following code in program.cs:
The problem is, this folder will be created every time the user runs the application which is not a good solution, also in this case there is no place to load the two images so it can be loaded while the folder is created. I want the folder to be created once preferably while installing the application, so even when i uninstall the folder "Your Files" and its sub files be deleted automatically along with the program files. I tried to do it via Setup Project, but i couldn't.
i have a project and i used NSIS to create a Setup file. I am able to install it to my system but some parts of the program do not work (and they work when i run my project in VB). For example i have a Back Up option that creates a back up but this does not work when i run the application via the installation file. Probably it has something to do with the directories?
If System.IO.Directory.Exists(CurDirectory + "Backup Folder") = False Then System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(CurDirectory + "Backup Folder") End If
how can i make it work from the installation file? Do i need to copy something somewhere?
I have done a windows application VB.NET with access Database. while working on it, i had the database path
Private ConStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= C:\LBCvehicles.mdb;Persist Security Info=True"
But since i wanted to deploy this project and install it on another pc i dint want the DB file to stay on C so i added a new folder to my project "DB" and added to it the access file.
Private ConStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= .\DB\LBCvehicles.mdb;Persist Security Info=True" and i tried it before deployment everything worked fine.
I deployed the application and when running the setup file i got the following error :
"The folder path'.' contains an invalid character"
I have this application that updates information to a database. I had it working but whether I have deleted or changed something accidentally I don't know. This is the error that appears:
See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
************** Exception Text ************** System.InvalidCastException: Conversion from string "SBS-resources" to type 'Integer' is not valid. ---> System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
[code]....
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I have shared a folder from another server to th eone am running the executable file. [Code]. I receive the error at the highlighted text. Thats the other server where the shared folder can be seen in the server am running the executable file. why I receive that error? The given path's format is not supported.
I'm trying to build a setup program using the built-in Visual Studio Installer. I'm using VS 2010 and working on VB.NET.For the most basic kind of program, I have an EXE file which works on a XML file (the XML file is treated like a database). So on a Windows 7 platform with UAC enabled, the best deployment is to install the EXE file in the Program Files folder, and the XML file in the application data folder, for security purposes of Windows. (Windows, now, does not allow creating/writing files inside the Program Files folder unless your application is running with administrative privileges).
So I have added VS Installer to my current project and have opened its File System Editor. So to create the above layout, I've added Primary Output to the Application Folder. Then I've added its shortcut to the User Desktop. Now I need to place my XML file to the application data folder. VS Installer gives the option of User's Application Data Folder, which is the %appdata% folder in the environment table. I need to access the All Users' Application Data Folder.
1) How do I access the All Users' Application Data Folder over here?
2) I tried using the User's Application Data Folder. It doesn't work. It doesn't create any folder in the %appdata% (e.g. C:UsersFarazAppDataRoaming). I tried to play around with various properties, like AlwaysCreate which is supposed to create a folder obligatorily. It doesn't create anything.
I keeping getting an error.Seems to be the connection string.Error happens at connection.Open()
Error Message:Cannot open database "C:UsersJEREDocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsBaseball2009Baseball2009DatabaseBaseball2009.sd" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'JERE-PCJERE'.

I'm trying to learn little SQL database with VB form application.
I made a little test application and publish it. On my PC works normal after installing. But when I tried to install the app on my wifes PC I get this error message
What does this mean? Is this something connected to app directly or not? In "Prerequisites..." I don't see nothing like this
