I lust started a class for visual basic. I installed the program I have vista. The program installed just fine. My problem is I go to file and try to open and new project and recieve an error message "Reguested registry access not allowed". Therfor I can not start a new project for my class.

All together there are 17 similar type errors in the part.
I am working with visual studio 2008, developing a simple windows form app. in VB. but a very weird situation has presented itself (at least I think its weird).When I try F5 or any other way to start the debugger I get this message:"Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may bebecause the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see Helpfor assistance."Needless to say, Help is Helpless.The weird thing about it is that this only appears if my computer is not connected to the home network and only in VB. When I try to debug on any other language it works fine, or if I connect to the network then VB debugs fine. I do not think I am using a remote debugger.
View 6 RepliesI'm using visual studio express 2008, I wrote my code for a project and then when I tried to debug it I got a few errors but one main one that says this. Visual Studio cannot start debugging because the debug target "".exe is missing Please build the project and retry, or set the output path and assembly names appropriately to point at the correct location of the target assembly. Since this is my first time debugging a program with this particular instance of the program, I am in shock. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
View 6 RepliesWhy does my VB.Net Project disappear instead of giving an error message?This only started happening recently, but when debugging with Visual Studios instead of getting errors, the program just closes as though the stop button was pressed. This doesn't happen for all error types but it consistently happens if there is some sort of casting error. This is an overly simplified example, but the lines below would cause a program to vanish as soon as they run. Dim i As Integer i = "A" One other interesting part of this is that if that was in a try catch block the error would be caught instead of closing the program.I'm in an office setting so I've been able to test a number of configurations and have found that this problem only affects Windows XP PCs, but not Windows 7. And it consistently happens with Visual Studios 2010 Professional and Ultimate, Visual Studios 2008. Besides that we apparently we all need Windows 7.

I have a VB project which incorporates 2 databases - 1 Access Db and 1 SQL Db. The project compiles and runs beautifully. However, after adding the databases in the project as existing items and deploying, the project opens/runs, but when I try to login the application I keep getting an error message telling me that the path to the .mdb (Access) database is not a valid path. I don't have a clue what else to do.
I created a simple user control and everything went fine.Then I created another of the same control (as a different project) from scratch (creating the controls in a different configuration; but pasting code from the previous one from a text file).As far as I know I did everything the same for creating a user controlCreate a Class Library project Then Project>Add New Item> User Control Then delete the initial class that was added automatically (usually named Class1.vb) Put all of my code and components into the user control class.However, when I wanted to run it in the debugger as I did in the previous project, I now get an error message:"A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly."

I have a VB project using VS 2008 Pro that I have been working on my Win XP SP3 PC for a while now. I am now moving to a different PC with Win 7, 32 bits. I installed VS2008 and VS2010 (also Pro) on the new PC. The source is stored on a server on our network. When I tried to open the project with VS2008 on the new Win 7 I got the following message:The project location is not trusted:

I'm using VS2008, and I have a project that will not start when I press F5 or when I click the little green triangle in the toolbar. The screen flickers once, like the project is going to run, and then it doesn't. The build message claims the build was successful, but the project won't start.In the Configuration Manager, my 'Active solution configuration:' is set to Debug, and in the 'Project contexts' list, the 'Configuration' column for my Project is set to Debug. I've even switched them back and forth between Debug and Release and then back to Debug, all with no effect. The project that I'm trying to run is set as the 'Startup Project' in my solution.If I go to my inDebug folder and double-click the .exe, (which shows the proper time-stamp on the file) my app runs just fine.Any ideas why I can't get the silly thing to run in debug mode?

I am about to start up a new project using Visual Basic .Net Express 2008 and I was wondering if I should install and use Visual Basic .Net Express 2010 instead. I would like your opinion of 2010. My project isn't especially fancy. But an automatic adjustment for monitor size would be useful.
Does 2010 replace the existing VB Express? Do I have to convert my existing projects? I had problems with this going from 2005 to 2008.

(Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020003 (DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND) )" performing the following scenario:- Opened a sample VS 2010 WPF project that I receiveved from a co-worker (Project compiles, and run on his machine)I tried to open project properties (Project --> Properties)The project properties panel/window didn't open, all it had was an error symbol (red/white X) and the error message above(HRESULT: 0x80020003).I am unable to view niether the designer window nor the code window (no messages are reported) but the pane where the code/design shoud display is empty, all you can see is the background color.

I have had to do this for my web app, since it is clearly much tidier than letting the program bomb out with it's ugly default error page. My custom error page just has the customer's logo and a brief message saying "Error has occurred. Please return to homepage"The trouble now is that I have no way of knowing what caused the error, when a customer reports it.
Is there a way to make the actual error message appear on this custom error page too?
I dragged and dropped a label control on my web form. But then whe I go to my VB .net code behind file, if I try and set a property on that label control, I am getting a "Declaration Expected" error message for the label I created.Yet if I do try and explicitly declare my label control, the compiler tells me that the label control is already declared.[code]

If I create a new WinForm and set the startup object to the new form, I get the same message.When I attempt to check the "Enable application framework" checkbox in the Project properties, I get the message "Startup object must be a form when 'Enable application framework' is checked.I've tried creating a new project and moving all the code and designer objects to a new form file in the new project, and same result.Other projects on the same computer run fine.

I have created a 7 day timer in a VB form that is to be part of a larger project. It has 14 date time pickers set to hours and minutes only in 24 hour format (1 on and 1 off per day), 7 checkboxes, 7 radio buttons, 2 textboxes to display day of the week and current time and a few buttons. In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?
