Jul 1, 2010I lust started a class for visual basic. I installed the program I have vista. The program installed just fine. My problem is I go to file and try to open and new project and recieve an error message "Reguested registry access not allowed". Therfor I can not start a new project for my class.

Feb 4, 2010I'm using VS2008, and I have a project that will not start when I press F5 or when I click the little green triangle in the toolbar. The screen flickers once, like the project is going to run, and then it doesn't. The build message claims the build was successful, but the project won't start.In the Configuration Manager, my 'Active solution configuration:' is set to Debug, and in the 'Project contexts' list, the 'Configuration' column for my Project is set to Debug. I've even switched them back and forth between Debug and Release and then back to Debug, all with no effect. The project that I'm trying to run is set as the 'Startup Project' in my solution.If I go to my inDebug folder and double-click the .exe, (which shows the proper time-stamp on the file) my app runs just fine.Any ideas why I can't get the silly thing to run in debug mode?

Start Up A New Project Using Visual Basic?
Jun 20, 2011I am about to start up a new project using Visual Basic .Net Express 2008 and I was wondering if I should install and use Visual Basic .Net Express 2010 instead. I would like your opinion of 2010. My project isn't especially fancy. But an automatic adjustment for monitor size would be useful.
Does 2010 replace the existing VB Express? Do I have to convert my existing projects? I had problems with this going from 2005 to 2008.
Can't Start WinForms Project Because Form Is A Type
Sep 27, 2011I have a very small VS2008 Winforms project that will not start.When I attempt to start debugging the project, I get the message:'<form>' is a type in '<project>' and cannot be used in an expression.From the file .Designer.vb.The problem is that is indeed a form. If I create a new WinForm and set the startup object to the new form, I get the same message.When I attempt to check the "Enable application framework" checkbox in the Project properties, I get the message "Startup object must be a form when 'Enable application framework' is checked.I've tried creating a new project and moving all the code and designer objects to a new form file in the new project, and same result.Other projects on the same computer run fine.

Nov 18, 2008I am working with visual studio 2008, developing a simple windows form app. in VB. but a very weird situation has presented itself (at least I think its weird).When I try F5 or any other way to start the debugger I get this message:"Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may bebecause the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see Helpfor assistance."Needless to say, Help is Helpless.The weird thing about it is that this only appears if my computer is not connected to the home network and only in VB. When I try to debug on any other language it works fine, or if I connect to the network then VB debugs fine. I do not think I am using a remote debugger.

I got all the code to make the backup, now the problem is to create it as a service.This is my form to the person choose the days and the hour to the process runs and install it as a service, and when it runs to be minimizated on the windows icons near clock and date and another option.

Visual Studio cannot start debugging because the debug target "".exe is missing Please build the project and retry, or set the output path and assembly names appropriately to point at the correct location of the target assembly. Since this is my first time debugging a program with this particular instance of the program, I am in shock. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

What I ended up doing is creating a custom action on commit that dynamically creates the link using Windows Scripting Host. Then on uninstall, removing the link.

May 5, 2010For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

Jul 24, 2011I have custom asynchronous WebRequest class that I am testing to find out how fast the request will be cancelled and found some odd results, that starting 6 WebRequests with TPL and cancelling them right away takes 25 sec, but when I used just regular background threads it took only 5 sec.
Update: Running them without cancelling takes with Task.Start 9 sec and Thread.Start 3 sec accordingly.

Aug 4, 2009I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

I want application # 1 to start another application (application #2) without Administrator privileges so application #2 is running as a standard user.
Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.
