I have created one Windows form based VB.Net project in which I want to start my project with Sub Main()
I have added one module and created one Public Sub Main() method but when I am trying select Sub Main from Startup form, I am not getting the method there. I am using VS 2010
I want to start my project with a sub main by disabling the application framework. The problem is that if i do this then the application starts and then exits in a few moments. Is there a way which could hold it until the last form is closed.

I have tried declaring 'Public Sub Main' on my forms and in some modules, yet in my project properties, it is not one of the options.
How do I start up with sub Main? I created a sub Main in a class. I clicked properties on my project. It provided a combobox of possible startup forms, but nowhere could I find an option to choose sub Main.

Is there a registry entry on this machine that has various keys for paths to SQL Server 2. If it does not I need to create them. 3. Prompt user for the path to the SQL Server 4.Check the SQL Server to see if the database I need exists. 5. Create the DB if not. 6. Populate the DB with the tables I need 7. Create stored procs in the DB 8. Write the registry. I could do all this in the form load of the main form. However is there a better way? Like doing all these checks as part of a splash screen for example.

I have a startup form with one list view and one combo box. When combo box SelectedIndexChanged a make call a subroutine that perform read of a file. In Main_Form_Activated i give a default value in my Combo box. The problem is: The program didn't show me the main screen and after call the subroutine to load the file but without show me any screen starting to load the file and they show me the screen AFTER the load of the file.

I created a brand new project, just a simple form and dragged 4 controls onto it (a label, a button, a combo box and a checkbox). There is no code in any of the controls.I published this using Clickonce at url...(I'm aware people may not be happy clicking links). It's set to run only from the webpage. It runs fine on this PC, but on my friends PC and on my spare PC, it simply churns up a page of html error codes.

View 2 Repliesthe client has asked for all forms and classes to be hidden from the main project, so when he sells it, they will only be able to see part of the project and not all the classes and forms.My Solution: I have created another project called project2, and added all the forms and classes from main project, fixed all errors and compiled it.I deleted all the forms from the main project and added a reference so that it gets all the forms from the other project by referencing the dll file, but it does not seem to work and get a lot of errors.is there an easier way of hiding the forms and classes from the main project or do I need to do more then just add the reference.

I've successfully called and used it in my Main Project. But when I started debugging and stepping through my code which involves calling and using the class I wrote in my Class Library, I noticed that the class' file in my Class Library opens up during debug mode.
how can I prevent the Class Library's files from being opened during my Main Project's debug mode?

View 2 RepliesI have a program that starts another program after setting the regkeys basically the program continually syncs the calandar of outlook and another application.I set the regkeys than launch the c:sync.exe app. I have tried a simple process.start and launching the process as a thread and they both do the same thing: The other process starts and works as it should but my main program goes "White screen" or "not responding" until the process.start has exited.
I want the process.start to run in the background so if users click in my main app it responds and truly that they can access the context menu of my main app from the taskbar while the process.start is running.

My problem is I go to file and try to open and new project and recieve an error message "Reguested registry access not allowed". Therfor I can not start a new project for my class.
View 2 RepliesI'm using VS2008, and I have a project that will not start when I press F5 or when I click the little green triangle in the toolbar. The screen flickers once, like the project is going to run, and then it doesn't. The build message claims the build was successful, but the project won't start.In the Configuration Manager, my 'Active solution configuration:' is set to Debug, and in the 'Project contexts' list, the 'Configuration' column for my Project is set to Debug. I've even switched them back and forth between Debug and Release and then back to Debug, all with no effect. The project that I'm trying to run is set as the 'Startup Project' in my solution.If I go to my inDebug folder and double-click the .exe, (which shows the proper time-stamp on the file) my app runs just fine.Any ideas why I can't get the silly thing to run in debug mode?

I am about to start up a new project using Visual Basic .Net Express 2008 and I was wondering if I should install and use Visual Basic .Net Express 2010 instead. I would like your opinion of 2010. My project isn't especially fancy. But an automatic adjustment for monitor size would be useful.
Does 2010 replace the existing VB Express? Do I have to convert my existing projects? I had problems with this going from 2005 to 2008.
I have a very small VS2008 Winforms project that will not start.When I attempt to start debugging the project, I get the message:'<form>' is a type in '<project>' and cannot be used in an expression.From the file .Designer.vb.The problem is that is indeed a form. If I create a new WinForm and set the startup object to the new form, I get the same message.When I attempt to check the "Enable application framework" checkbox in the Project properties, I get the message "Startup object must be a form when 'Enable application framework' is checked.I've tried creating a new project and moving all the code and designer objects to a new form file in the new project, and same result.Other projects on the same computer run fine.
View 1 RepliesI am working with visual studio 2008, developing a simple windows form app. in VB. but a very weird situation has presented itself (at least I think its weird).When I try F5 or any other way to start the debugger I get this message:"Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may bebecause the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see Helpfor assistance."Needless to say, Help is Helpless.The weird thing about it is that this only appears if my computer is not connected to the home network and only in VB. When I try to debug on any other language it works fine, or if I connect to the network then VB debugs fine. I do not think I am using a remote debugger.

I have created a 7 day timer in a VB form that is to be part of a larger project. It has 14 date time pickers set to hours and minutes only in 24 hour format (1 on and 1 off per day), 7 checkboxes, 7 radio buttons, 2 textboxes to display day of the week and current time and a few buttons. As a standalone project, this works well
