Deploying A VB Project That Includes A Txt File

how to get my compiled program onto another computer. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Professional.
I've read and tried ClickOnce deployment and Setup Installer, but I'm not getting it right.
With ClickOnce, I manage to install the program and it has the menu item and icon in the Start menu, but when I try and run it, it tells me that it can't find the text file. I put the file in the bin Debug and Release folders, selected 'Build' then 'Publish' and still no go.
I tried the other option of creating an Installer (using [URL] as my guide), but I get the same error - the txt file can't be found.
I've done this several times, but just can't seem to get it to work. Other resources online, like YouTube, just cover a project that doesn't include a text file or database file etc.

We created a VB.Net application which includes SSRS reports that runs on my development computer. Do you know of a step by step guide that steps us through deploying the reports on our customer's computer? We will be installing SQL Server 2012 Express Advanced on the target computer then configuring the reporting services then installing the application. The last part we need help with is to install the reports themselves on the target computer.

I have a project that uses web references to make SOAP calls to several web services. When I'm working locally, the services are hosted on my local machine, so the URL of each web service is something like [URL]. When I deploy the project to a server, the URL needs to change to the production URL. Currently I am accomplishing this with a prebuild event that does a find-and-replace on each URL and overwrites it with the deployment URL before deploying. Surely there is a better way.

When I reference the com-enabled .net dll in a VB6.0 project, how do I make an installer so the com-enabled .net dll will be registered on target machines? It seems I cannot use regsvr32.exe itself to register it so I have doubts that using the P&D wizard will not be able to properly register it.

I am ready to deploy my vb.net project to my client computer.In my development computer I have crystal report 9, sql server express and .net frame work 3.5 installed.My Client computer hasn't got anything installed there.I am trying to making msi installer so that it will be easy for my client to install.I created the new solutions -> setup type project, added the project on it and build it.it successfully created the msi installer but it doesn't installs the sql server express and crystal report.How do i make the installer with crystal report and sql server and also with db

When a user click the .msi, i want a folder called "Your Files", which comes with two small images by default, to be created in C:UsersYourNameDocuments. In short, MyDocuments.
What i did is put the following code in program.cs:
string myDocuments = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.MyDocuments);
string downloadArea = System.IO.Path.Combine(myDocuments, "Your Files");
System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(downloadArea);
Just before:
Application.Run(new mainForm());
The problem is, this folder will be created every time the user runs the application which is not a good solution, also in this case there is no place to load the two images so it can be loaded while the folder is created. I want the folder to be created once preferably while installing the application, so even when i uninstall the folder "Your Files" and its sub files be deleted automatically along with the program files. I tried to do it via Setup Project, but i couldn't.

i have a project and i used NSIS to create a Setup file. I am able to install it to my system but some parts of the program do not work (and they work when i run my project in VB). For example i have a Back Up option that creates a back up but this does not work when i run the application via the installation file. Probably it has something to do with the directories?

I'm trying to build a setup program using the built-in Visual Studio Installer. I'm using VS 2010 and working on VB.NET.For the most basic kind of program, I have an EXE file which works on a XML file (the XML file is treated like a database). So on a Windows 7 platform with UAC enabled, the best deployment is to install the EXE file in the Program Files folder, and the XML file in the application data folder, for security purposes of Windows. (Windows, now, does not allow creating/writing files inside the Program Files folder unless your application is running with administrative privileges).
So I have added VS Installer to my current project and have opened its File System Editor. So to create the above layout, I've added Primary Output to the Application Folder. Then I've added its shortcut to the User Desktop.Now I need to place my XML file to the application data folder. VS Installer gives the option of User's Application Data Folder, which is the %appdata% folder in the environment table. I need to access the All Users' Application Data Folder.
1) How do I access the All Users' Application Data Folder over here?
2) I tried using the User's Application Data Folder. It doesn't work. It doesn't create any folder in the %appdata% (e.g. C:UsersFarazAppDataRoaming). I tried to play around with various properties, like AlwaysCreate which is supposed to create a folder obligatorily. It doesn't create anything.

Is there any literature which guides a user through the steps of deploying a vb project created with VS 2010 Professional and incorporating SQL 2008RE Database?
I have a VB project which incorporates 2 databases - 1 Access Db and 1 SQL Db. The project compiles and runs beautifully. However, after adding the databases in the project as existing items and deploying, the project opens/runs, but when I try to login the application I keep getting an error message telling me that the path to the .mdb (Access) database is not a valid path. I don't have a clue what else to do.

I've been working creating a few programs in visual studio 10. These work fine on my own PC because I have the .net framework installed. However I need to be able to distribute these programs as a single .exe file download from our website and also as a single .exe file via CD.
Most of the PCs which will be installing my programs won't have .net framework installed and I don't want to force people to have to download the files from the internet (it just seems like so much hassle and I can't guarantee that everyone who wants to install my programs will even have access to the internet).I know that I can set pre-requisites in the publish tab and I have done this whilst setting "Download prerequisites from the same location as my application". I've already downloaded the redistributable files WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe and dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64 and I've put the files in the same folder as my project.I then go into the publish wizard and select that users will install the application from a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Unfortunately I then get the following errors:

Can I know how to read the text file which has Trade Mark sign in it? Like this one "Unique™"..I tried using System.Text.Encoding.*(all the encoding methods) but it still not working.I know how to read text file. But I don't know how to read the file which include this special character. (Actually this is a CSV file which has been exported out from Excel file.)url...Any other way of reading such special characters text file from VB.Net?????

I have made a small application in Visual Basic 2008 Express. It's a small form application with a Database connected to the project. (made from the wizard in VB express)My problem is that when I deploy my application i can't find the mdf file where the data of the application i stored. I have found a mdf file which i have tryed to connect to through excel but this data is not the same as in my application.

I want to know how to only deploy/copy the app.config file in a deployment project based on if it already exists or not. So if this is the first installation, I want to copy the app.config file to the installation directory. If it is already there, I don't want to write over it.
I also do not want this file un-installed if the either the user or the setup.exe uninstalls the program. The users will be updating this file with local information, and everytime i have a new update, I don't want to have to have them reenter it.

I have an application that uses a text file for its settings. This file is placed in the application folder but deployment sets its file attributes as "Read Only". I have to manually change this attribute every time I deploy the application or an upgrade. I tried (successfully) to place the text file in the "Documents and settings|All users|Application Data" folder, creating a specific folder for my application in which to place my file. The folder and file were created by the setup process but then, users who did not have admin rights still did not see the file, let alone open it.
I have gone back to placing my text file in the [Programs files]|[Manufacturer]|[Application name] folder but am saddled with manually changing the attributes. Is there a way I can do this programatically during deployment (e.g. by some post-deployment process)?

I am trying to deploy a VB.net application that is currently using SQL Server 2008 as its database to connect to.I need this application to be able to include a copy of its data so that wherever I install the application there is no need for them to install SQL Express.
What i have been reading is that I should of been using SQL Server Compact Edition to do this. Is there any way that I can do this with using an .MDF file?If not, is it possible to convert an .MDF file to .SDF and then just include it in my vb.net app?

I am trying to make a simple program in vb that includes a combobox with a textbox on top and a list box. Basically, the user should be able to type somthing in the textbox, click a button which adds it to the combobox, then click another button which adds it to the listbox. I have all of this done fine, but i am running into some trouble and have some questions.
First, theres a textbox right ontop of my combo box. I would like the textbox text to display whatever value is selected in the combobox. right now its just always blank because the textbox is on top.
Next, if the item from the combobox is added to the listbox, you should not be able to delete it from the combo box. how would i achieve this?
Finally, i need to create a function named "is included" that searches the listbox to check if a certain value is included in the list box. This search just needs to return true or false. I have no idea where to start with this part or what i should do.

I have a form which is bound to a table that includes information about properties (real estate). Each property can have a number of inspections. These inspections are included in a separate table.
I want to use the form to show the property information and a data repeater to show all the inspections for that property.I can't seem to get the data repeater to bind to the inspection table and pull only those records related to the property information table. In fact, the data repeater shows nothing.
I can get a data repeater to show all the records in the inspection table when I put the control on its own form, for testing purposes.

I am using a simple regular expression (in C#) to find a whole word within a block of text.
The word may appear at the beginning, end or in the middle of a the text or sentence with in the text.
The expression I have been using word has been working fine however if the word included a special character (that has been escaped) it no longer works. The boundary is essential so that we do not pick up words such as vb.net as a match for .net.[code]...
