I have to create a Dialog box to get the user's selection. I can use the InputBox to get text but if it is able to show a Dialog Box with a Combobox, user can easily select items.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to make a simple program in vb that includes a combobox with a textbox on top and a list box. Basically, the user should be able to type somthing in the textbox, click a button which adds it to the combobox, then click another button which adds it to the listbox. I have all of this done fine, but i am running into some trouble and have some questions.
First, theres a textbox right ontop of my combo box. I would like the textbox text to display whatever value is selected in the combobox. right now its just always blank because the textbox is on top.
Next, if the item from the combobox is added to the listbox, you should not be able to delete it from the combo box. how would i achieve this?
Finally, i need to create a function named "is included" that searches the listbox to check if a certain value is included in the list box. This search just needs to return true or false. I have no idea where to start with this part or what i should do.

I'm using a DLL in vb.net 2005, and this dll show a messagebox with OK option. I would like to close this Messagebox by code.
I was investigating to use SetWindowsHookEx, but I can not detect it. Is it possible to don't show any dialog, or detect the dialog using the dll name?

The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.
I have a table in my database with 5 columns (ID1 to ID5) and just one row. I'm trying to bind a comboBox, to show ID1 through ID5 in the combobox when my form loads. I have a dataset and tableAdapter's made for this already. I just want to know how to bind a combobox to those ID values.
View 4 RepliesAfter deploying and installing my application I use the app to create and save a file with my own file extension. After the file is created I right-click on the file and select Open With.. so that I can associate this file extension with my application. In the Open With dialog I use the Browse button to find my application and select it. In the Open With dialog the application icon is shown, but the name of the app is blank (looks like an empty string). Can anyone tell me why this might be happening? I've looked at the Registry, which shows the correct app, but every time I open the Open With dialog only the application icon is displayed, no name.

I'm trying to create a program that will look at a website and check it for updates, similar to an RSS feed. It then will show a dialog (Form2) that will inform the user that there is an update.Form1 is used as the configuration form and is able to be shown via a notify icon in the system tray, which is on Form1.Originally I would have Form1 hidden via Me.Hide() and then run a timer which would check for the updates and call Form2.ShowDialog() when there's an update, I found out however, that if Form1 is hidden, the dialog will not show.
Next I tried not Hiding the form, but instead setting its ShowinTaskbar property to False. At this point the program functions correctly, however when I minimize Form1 it sits in a shrunken window near the task bar... Is there any way to completely hide Form1 (when minimized), and allow Form2 to be shown as a dialog?
I designed a application on vb.net 2005. Some of the forms in this application has databindings controls. Now when such forms loads it takes some time. I want a splash screen containg "Please wait" message to appear till the form loads and the wait splash screen would be shown for every several forms in the application not only before the start up form.

I'm designing a Windows Forms Application, and there is a dialog that should NOT exit when the enter key is pressed, instead it has to validate data first, in case enter was pressed after changing the text of a ComboBox. I've tried by telling it what to do on KeyPress event of the ComboBox if e is the Enter key:

But no success so far. When the Enter key is pressed, even with the ComboBox on focus, the whole dialog is closed, returning to the previous form. The validation is NOT done at all, and it has to be done before exiting. In fact, I don't even want to exit on the form's enter KeyPress, the only purpose of the enter key on the whole dialog is to validate the ComboBox (but only when in focus, for the sake of an intuitive UI). I've also tried appending the validation to the KeyPress event of the whole dialog's form, if the key is Enter. NO SUCCESS! It's like my code wasn't there at all.
MDIform contains Form1. Form1's MDIParent is set to MDIform Form1 has a button on click that opens Form2 as a show dialog. I have a client, who is running Windows 2008 Server 64 bit. He is running our software, it has a built in crystal report viewer functionality. The print dialogue just wouldn't work no matter what. It worked on our 32 bit box and we verified it. I verified it on our 64 bit box, and the print dialogue didn't open either. I did some research online. And one suggestion is to set m_printDlg.UseEXDialog = True. I tried that, but that did not work either...

I have a simple html file that i want to send to the printer (to print it) i don't want to view it or anything, i also don't want to use webbrowser control. I also don't want it to show me the printer dialog window (where i chose the printer, preferences etc...) Just a simple send to printer. how can i achieve that? View 3 RepliesI am using Process.Start(fileName) to let Windows open certain files outside of my application with their 'default application'.If "fileName" for example is a ".txt" file, it opens the file in Notepad. If it is a folder, it opens windows explorer with that folder selected.This all seems to work well, except when the user enters a file that has no application 'linked' to it.(a file that has no file associations)I have wrapped the Process. Start() in a Try/Catch block so that any errors are caught and displayed.When I now open a file without any file associations (windows does not know with which application to open it) it tells me that it cannot find any application to open it with. (The exact error is in dutch so I don't think that's going to be much help here, but I think it's clear what's happening, no?)What I would like to happen in this case is that the windows "Open With" dialog comes up, asking the user to select an application to open the file with. Now it just displays the error message and continues, making it impossible for the user to open the file unless he browses to the file manually and sets up the file association, something many users probably don't know how to do.

In this form, I have a menu control, this menu control has four buttons.On clicking the first three buttons, open the window with Show() event. and the fourth button open the screen with ShowDialog().Now, One by one I am clicking the button , so finally i have now four windows of this application.(Three with Show() and one with ShowDialog())Right?
Now I am minimizing all the windows with the help of Window + D Button.After this, If I use the keyboard(Alt+ Tab) keys. This is opening the showDialog window on top because , Show dialog's TopMost = True.Now I come back to my problem. That's why I cannot use the show/Showdialog overloaded menthod to pass the Me/form-id .Again, I use the keyboard(Alt+ Tab) keys, to minimized all windows. In the taskbar and Startmenu properties ,I have selected the Group Similar Taskbar buttons.This resulted in the heap of my application windows, one on the other.Now i click on one of my application window , and If I click the window other then the Show Dialog opened Window, this is not bringing the show dialog window to topMost.
Note:- There is no parent child window requirement. That's why I can't use the Show/Show Dialog overloaded method to pass the Me/Form-id

View 2 RepliesAs a continuation of my previous posting, which we were able to resolve, I am running into the same problem again, due to being unable to use frmForm1.Show().In my last situation I had to use frmForm1.ShowDialog(), which worked in that case, as it called another form, for example frmForm2.However, now I have a program that is sometimes required to recal frmForm1, and I get the following message: �Close the form before calling ShowDialog.But, in frmForm1,I include, Me.Hide() and Me.Close(). Also, before recalling frmForm1, from a procedure under Main(), I have added the following
frmForm1.Close()
To me that would suggest the form is closed, dead and buried, but the programme still stops at the point of:
frmForm1.ShowDialog()
With the same message: �Close the form before calling ShowDialog.
I have a ComboBox and upon formload:

so that it adds those 3 items.
How do I make it so that kHz is shown as the default value rather than just the blank item that is currently shown until the combobox is click on?
I have some text boxes in my form that takes data and saves the data to the database. There is a combo box on the form that loads data from a specific field of a database.
When I enter and save the new data (using the textboxes), the combobox doesn't show the newly entered data. I tried to refresh the combobox using code like combobox.refresh, me.refresh etc....to refresh the form but nothing is working.
The combobox only display the new data when I close the form and reload the form again. Anyway, the data loading in the combobox is done using datasource, displaymember, valuemember in the properties So, how can I make the combobox show the updated record (field)?
