Actually i'm trying to show and dialog into a parent form, An reference example is:[code]Form that is not a top-level form cannot be displayed as a modal dialog box. Remove the form from any parent form before calling showDialog.
i have form1 and form splash..i used the splash as processing indicator i place gif in the splash form...and in form1 i call the splash in separate thread..
like this..
Dim splashthread As Thread = New Thread(New ThreadStart(AddressOf SplashScreen.ShowSplashScreen)) splashthread.IsBackground = True splashthread.Start()
[code]....
now,my problem is when form1 is loaded and click button process in it..the splash form will not display modally...is it because i called the splash in separate thread?..
I'm trying to create a program that will look at a website and check it for updates, similar to an RSS feed. It then will show a dialog (Form2) that will inform the user that there is an update.Form1 is used as the configuration form and is able to be shown via a notify icon in the system tray, which is on Form1.Originally I would have Form1 hidden via Me.Hide() and then run a timer which would check for the updates and call Form2.ShowDialog() when there's an update, I found out however, that if Form1 is hidden, the dialog will not show.
Next I tried not Hiding the form, but instead setting its ShowinTaskbar property to False. At this point the program functions correctly, however when I minimize Form1 it sits in a shrunken window near the task bar... Is there any way to completely hide Form1 (when minimized), and allow Form2 to be shown as a dialog?
I'm new in .Net and I have an application with windows form "LOGIN" When users enter the user and password and click "ok", then if user passes validation then I have the code Show(MDIMainMenu) (I'm trying to open an mdi form), but I receive the following error: "Form that is already visible cannot be displayed as a modal dialog box. Set the form's visible property to false before calling Show. Error Number 5"
Even i have use the "BringToFront" keyword for the childform but its not working. The buttons on the main form are still displayed above the childform. But when i open another form from the childform, it is displayed properly
I'm using a DLL in vb.net 2005, and this dll show a messagebox with OK option. I would like to close this Messagebox by code.
I was investigating to use SetWindowsHookEx, but I can not detect it. Is it possible to don't show any dialog, or detect the dialog using the dll name?
Base form baseForm generate an array of childForm (3 fo them). I have one event handler in baseForm which is called when user close each childForm. The problem is that this event handler is only called when the last childForm is closed. When other childForm is closed, the event handler doesn't do anything.
I often use the process of displaying a dialog from a form, with the dialog user input then used to update the main form without any problem. In a new scenerio I launch the main application screen, I then show a login dialog ontop of the main app screen and can launch another dialog from the login if a new user is required. The plan is to update the login dialog (updating a combobox to reflect the addition of a new user) from the new user dialog.
See code below :-
'Update login forms user list as new user added successfully frmRoomBookingLogin.cboLogin.DataSource = Nothing frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text = "Updating password from dialog" MessageBox.Show("The password text is " & frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text)
[code]....
The messagebox implies the dialog has been updated yet the text does not change. Is it possible to update the dialog when using a setup such as Form -> dialog -> dialog? I'm intrigued as why the dialog does not reflect changes. I have never refreshed/repainted the dialog as never required to in my other examples when updating a form from a dialog and never encountered a problem when using a two tier form setup.
After deploying and installing my application I use the app to create and save a file with my own file extension. After the file is created I right-click on the file and select Open With.. so that I can associate this file extension with my application. In the Open With dialog I use the Browse button to find my application and select it. In the Open With dialog the application icon is shown, but the name of the app is blank (looks like an empty string). Can anyone tell me why this might be happening? I've looked at the Registry, which shows the correct app, but every time I open the Open With dialog only the application icon is displayed, no name.
<script type="text/javascript"> function ShowAlert(id) { alert('I am here' + id);[code].....
In my gridviews item template for my edit button I have the following to call the function. Which works to show an alert but can't get it to show the dialog? Is it because possibly the postback happening on the grid causing it to close?
I have to create a Dialog box to get the user's selection. I can use the InputBox to get text but if it is able to show a Dialog Box with a Combobox, user can easily select items.
I designed a application on vb.net 2005. Some of the forms in this application has databindings controls. Now when such forms loads it takes some time. I want a splash screen containg "Please wait" message to appear till the form loads and the wait splash screen would be shown for every several forms in the application not only before the start up form.
I need to open a page as a Modal Dialog using Jquery .For Example: I have 2 pages say, Parent.aspx & Child.aspx, I need to open child.aspx in a modal dialog using JQuery when i click on a button/link in the parent.aspx. Also Postback can happen in the parent and child pages.
I've created simple modeless dialog box that show a progress bar, plus an ok button. It works, except that the "OK" button doesn't display until the progress bar is filled. My dialog is name frmProgress and I'm using:
MDIform contains Form1. Form1's MDIParent is set to MDIform Form1 has a button on click that opens Form2 as a show dialog. I need this Action.Form2 has another button that opens Form3.Is there anyway that I can make Form3's mdiparent the original MDIform by passing Form1.mdiparent value to form2 (without actually setting that value) that then passes it to form3?
I have a client, who is running Windows 2008 Server 64 bit. He is running our software, it has a built in crystal report viewer functionality. The print dialogue just wouldn't work no matter what. It worked on our 32 bit box and we verified it. I verified it on our 64 bit box, and the print dialogue didn't open either. I did some research online. And one suggestion is to set m_printDlg.UseEXDialog = True. I tried that, but that did not work either...
Here is the code snippet. #Region " Methods " Public Overrides Sub PrintReport() ' NOTE: Do not use bug in reportviewer 'MyBase.PrintReport() Dim objRpt As ReportDocument = CType(Me.ReportSource, ReportDocument) [Code] .....
I have a simple html file that i want to send to the printer (to print it) i don't want to view it or anything, i also don't want to use webbrowser control. I also don't want it to show me the printer dialog window (where i chose the printer, preferences etc...) Just a simple send to printer. how can i achieve that? Share your knowledge it's one way to achieve immortality.. [URL]
I am using Process.Start(fileName) to let Windows open certain files outside of my application with their 'default application'.If "fileName" for example is a ".txt" file, it opens the file in Notepad. If it is a folder, it opens windows explorer with that folder selected.This all seems to work well, except when the user enters a file that has no application 'linked' to it.(a file that has no file associations)I have wrapped the Process. Start() in a Try/Catch block so that any errors are caught and displayed.When I now open a file without any file associations (windows does not know with which application to open it) it tells me that it cannot find any application to open it with. (The exact error is in dutch so I don't think that's going to be much help here, but I think it's clear what's happening, no?)What I would like to happen in this case is that the windows "Open With" dialog comes up, asking the user to select an application to open the file with. Now it just displays the error message and continues, making it impossible for the user to open the file unless he browses to the file manually and sets up the file association, something many users probably don't know how to do.
My Front end is VB.net 2008.I have a form. In this form, I have a menu control, this menu control has four buttons.On clicking the first three buttons, open the window with Show() event. and the fourth button open the screen with ShowDialog().Now, One by one I am clicking the button , so finally i have now four windows of this application.(Three with Show() and one with ShowDialog())Right?
Now I am minimizing all the windows with the help of Window + D Button.After this, If I use the keyboard(Alt+ Tab) keys. This is opening the showDialog window on top because , Show dialog's TopMost = True.Now I come back to my problem. That's why I cannot use the show/Showdialog overloaded menthod to pass the Me/form-id .Again, I use the keyboard(Alt+ Tab) keys, to minimized all windows. In the taskbar and Startmenu properties ,I have selected the Group Similar Taskbar buttons.This resulted in the heap of my application windows, one on the other.Now i click on one of my application window , and If I click the window other then the Show Dialog opened Window, this is not bringing the show dialog window to topMost.
Note:- There is no parent child window requirement. That's why I can't use the Show/Show Dialog overloaded method to pass the Me/Form-id
I have some shared code I need to use both in a WinForm and a service. How can I test if my code is running in a service, so I can avoid problems with modal dialogs.
I'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.
I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.
My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.
In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.
I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.
Here's what the inner trace looks like ( when I put a breakpoint on the onclosing event for this messagebox form ):
As a continuation of my previous posting, which we were able to resolve, I am running into the same problem again, due to being unable to use frmForm1.Show().In my last situation I had to use frmForm1.ShowDialog(), which worked in that case, as it called another form, for example frmForm2.However, now I have a program that is sometimes required to recal frmForm1, and I get the following message: Close the form before calling ShowDialog.But, in frmForm1,I include, Me.Hide() and Me.Close(). Also, before recalling frmForm1, from a procedure under Main(), I have added the following
frmForm1.Close()
To me that would suggest the form is closed, dead and buried, but the programme still stops at the point of:
frmForm1.ShowDialog()
With the same message: Close the form before calling ShowDialog.
My project has a single dataset with about 6 datatables. Each of those datatables has a TableAdapater and a Bindingsource on the main form (due to various databound controls).
Now, I want to have a second form for adding a new record. If I bind the controls to the datasource it creates new TableAdapaters and new Bindingsources on that form. I was wondering if it's possible to simply use the ones from the main form instead like this
I have a bindingNavigator and some textboxes connected to the bindingsource, in a childform, a form inside another form.I have a third form, a search function, and I need to change the bindingNavigator Position, when I choose a number in my "search" form.I have some code in my "Search" Form, but I caannot get it to update the bindingnavigator in my child form:
Dim IndexNumber As Double = Me.TblMainVoyBindingSource.Find("ID", Me.TblMainVoyDataGridView.CurrentRow.Cells(0).Value) frmEditVoyage.TblMainVoyBindingSource.Position = IndexNumber
