App Name Does Not Show Up In Open With... Dialog?

Jul 29, 2009

After deploying and installing my application I use the app to create and save a file with my own file extension. After the file is created I right-click on the file and select Open With.. so that I can associate this file extension with my application. In the Open With dialog I use the Browse button to find my application and select it. In the Open With dialog the application icon is shown, but the name of the app is blank (looks like an empty string). Can anyone tell me why this might be happening? I've looked at the Registry, which shows the correct app, but every time I open the Open With dialog only the application icon is displayed, no name.

VS 2010 Show Dialog From A Hidden Form?

Oct 6, 2011

I'm trying to create a program that will look at a website and check it for updates, similar to an RSS feed. It then will show a dialog (Form2) that will inform the user that there is an update.Form1 is used as the configuration form and is able to be shown via a notify icon in the system tray, which is on Form1.Originally I would have Form1 hidden via Me.Hide() and then run a timer which would check for the updates and call Form2.ShowDialog() when there's an update, I found out however, that if Form1 is hidden, the dialog will not show.

Next I tried not Hiding the form, but instead setting its ShowinTaskbar property to False. At this point the program functions correctly, however when I minimize Form1 it sits in a shrunken window near the task bar... Is there any way to completely hide Form1 (when minimized), and allow Form2 to be shown as a dialog?

Click On A Javascript Show Link Programmatically?

Jan 1, 2011

I'm trying to develop a new feature for our vb.net order entry system. At the moment I provide an assisted paypal login which loops through transactions and copies the transactions. My program then looks at this data and copies it into text boxes. The operator then approves and saves the record.

EDIT: I need to see the transaction in PayPal.So my code uses IHTMLFormElement and loops round form elements and adds values. However I only really use this to log in to paypal. See my code...

Dim theObject As Object = Nothing
theObject = "https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run"
WebBrowPayPal.AxWebBrowser1.Navigate2(theObject)

[code]....

Which is the history page, which allows you to search on the paypal transaction id.Unfortunately you need to click on 'find a transaction' which then uses some javascript to shows the post fields. So the problem is that the fields I need to use are hidden.

How can I click on this javascript link in code ?

Programmatically Created Controls Show Up Intermittently?

Feb 22, 2009

Now everybody knows that creating GUIs that have lots of repeated elements that are evenly spaced by hand is for chumps; all the cool kids use loops and add them at runtime. Given that being one of the cool kids is one of my top priorities I decided to give this a go - as my current project involves creating a grid of check boxes and then chunking them together under one event handler. In my experience - an nice effective way of dealing with grid like structures (2D arrays if you will) is to use nested loops such as:

For intY = 0 To 9
For intX = 0 To 9
Dim chk As New CheckBox

Downloading File With WebBrowser And JavaScript Without Dialog Boxes?

May 21, 2012

I know this topic is all over the web, but I seem to have a combination of issues that is either not addressed or I can't figure out that they are addressed. Here is what I am doing. I am using Webbrowser to log into a a website and navigate to a specific page, enter some query criteria and click a "search" button. This button produces a table of files that fit the criteria. I then go through the table, navigating to the file names and compare against my database to see if I want to download. This all works well.

The issue: there is no URL behind these file names. It is a JavaScript. I am able to call the file with invokemember("click") but I get the pesky dialog box or Open or Save. Then I get the directory dialog box.

I have tried sendkeys, trie to capture the Webbrowser_downloadFile event, tried ObjectForScripting(not sure I did that correctly), all to no avail. I have tried to use WebClient, but since I do not have and actual URL for the file, I did not expect it to work. I can navigate to the href attribute, but not sure how to use it.

Programmatically Can One Find A Control's Owning Thread?

Feb 13, 2012

It is a requirement that all .net Controls are created on the main thread, at least this is necessary if the intent is to integrate the control in with the interface which is usually the case. Additionally to modify properties on the control one must invoke the method from the control's thread using its own invoke method.

Is there a way to look at a control and identify its owning thread directly?

Additionally or conversely, is it possible to detect whether the current thread is the "Main thread"? Is there anything special about the thread that Visual Studio identifies as the main thread that can be seen at runtime, or is it simply that this is the first thread that VS executes to initialise debugging?

The basis of this question was not actually a typo, it was the fact that BackColor does not show up in my DateTimePicker control intellisense.

save it as a .BMP-File.

It should also be possible to add Paint-like editing features later. What is a good approach? System.Drawing.Bitmap works internally, but the only way I could show it is to convert it to an ImageSource and show it inside an Image control. Is there any better way?
