Using Setwindowshookex To Run A Callback System To Trap The Keys Just Trapping "windows" Key Atm
Jan 9, 2009
I'm making a kiosk style desktop replacement.
Im using setwindowshookex to run a callback system to trap the keys just trapping "windows" key atm.
if I step through just as the program goes the the keyboardcallback function declaration line it pauses for seconds before moving to the next line. This directly precedes the new variable declaration of the callback variable
While running this leads to only 1 press of the "windows" keys causing several hits of the "youve pressed windows key warning" sometimes 4 or 5 times with large pauses inbetween inwhich the window is unresponsive.
The Start menu is normally blocked however occasionally during the unresonsive times it might pop up but this is rare.
Or common reasons/solutions to setwindowshookex being slow Anyone know alternative method of blocking all hotkeys (apart from the 3finger salute i understand that, that is not accessible)?

I want to use System.Windows.Forms.Keys with a variable for example
shortcutkey = "A"
keydata = System.Windows.Forms.Keys.shortcutkey
The idea was to implement custom shortcuts that the user specifies to perform certain actions.
My code is like this
If (((BindingFunctions.IsKeyDown(Keys.ControlKey) AndAlso BindingFunctions.IsKeyDown(Keys.ShiftKey)) AndAlso BindingFunctions.IsKeyDown(keyData)) AndAlso (keyData = Keys.L)) Then

I have a textbox that is used to add directories to a system folder, each name seperated by a line. If the textbox has text value "Test " that is "Test" & controlchars.newline & "" (not like this is coded, it's typed in), then if i use loop for each part as string in textbox1.text.split(controlchars.newline), the first part will be "Test", the second part will say " " when i run step by step debugger, but if i try and block the addition of a folder by "if part = " "" it does not catch it. I've tried comparing part to "", " ", nothing (which is illogical anyways), and i even tried creating a boolean variable equal to the statment to try and catch it but the program insists that part is not " " even though the debugger tells me that is the value of part.

I dont know that this is the right thread to ask doubt about windows service.But it is very urgent. I am helpless. So i am coming to this forum. I am using windows services. I have one exe file(MFC application). Using windows service i am calling this exe file like
System.Diagnostic.Process.Start(Path); When services run the exe is opened but the callback function is not running. I give a AfxMessagebox inside the exe file. In local it is executed.But when call from services it is not fired. The function is not executed.

I am developing an application that will engage a bar code scanner and will need to be listening for input even when it is not the active application or from a separate thread from within the application. I can get a handle to the hook when I set the project to compile for Net 2.When I set my project to compile for Net 4 I cannot get a handle from the SetWindowsHookEx.Same code, no changes at all.While obviously I can get a working DLL out of this it really is buggin the out of me.Additionally, if one of my colegues needs to adjust this DLL in the future and does not know, they may compile it in Net 4.I also have no idea what will be the effects if I reference this DLL in another project that is compiled in Net 4.Lastly, I am worried that I may encounter more difficulties like this in the future if I cannot figure out what the difference is.[code]

I have this code for my shortcut keys
Private Sub Form1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
If e.Shift = True And e.KeyCode = Keys.F3 Then
'Do something
End If
But I also have a button to send my program to the System tray like so:
NotifyIcon1.Visible = True
Me.Visible = False
How can I get my shortcut key to work while my program is in the system tray?
It doesn't work while its a notify icon

I'm trying to build an application that when I press a keyboard shortcut, say CTRL + ~, if the window is minimized to the system tray it is displayed.
I have seen a few programs do this and have always wondered how to do this, but haven't had the opportunity to do learn it until now and I really don't know if its something simple or complex.

I am working on a program that needs to fetch remote windows pc's particular registry keys and then be able to modify them (for example the Run registry key). From what I have been reading I would need to use the OpenRemoteBaseKey to do so.
What I am not sure about is how do I have the program search the network for all of the Windows computers and generate a checklist when the computer names and IP addresses are not known ?
also for the OpenRemoteBaseKey to work do I have to know the password for the administrator account for each PC ?

I would like to create/use a system-wide independent universal 'counter object' that can be called via COM in a thread-safe manner. The counter object will be passed an ID to identify which counter to return, handle the counting, 'persist' the count (occasionally), have reasonable performance (as fast as possible) perhaps capable of 1000 counts per second or better (1mS) and be accessible cross-process/out-of-process. The current count status must be persisted between object restarts/shutdowns.
The counter object is liklely to be a 'singleton' type object implemented in some form of free-threaded dictionary, containing maybe 10 counters (perhaps 50 max). The count needs to be monotonic and consistent, (ie: guaranteed unique sequential values).Each counter should have a few methods, like reset, inc, dec, set, clear, remove. As a luxury, I would like to have a variable-increment (ie: 'step by' value). To support thread-safefty, perhaps some sorm of critical-section or mutex call. It just needs to return a long/4byte signed integer.
I really want something that can be called from anywhere, including VBScript, so I figure COM is my preferred solution.The primary use of this is for database keys. I am unable to use autoinc or guid type keys and have ruled out database-generated counting systems at this point.I've spent days researching this and I have really struggled to find a solution. The best I can find is a free-threaded dictionary object that can be instantiated using COM+ from Motobit - it seems to offer all the 'basics' and I guess I could create some form of wrapper for this.

I am trying to access the private key of a certificate I uploded to Windows azure do do decryption. I used a code similar to this post: Using DotNetOpenAuth OAuth 2 with Azure - Reading Certificate - difficulty extracting keys. Andrew Arnott provided an answer to what post referencing this link:[URL].. However I cannot access it so I am not sure what is the solution.
Essentially when try to cast the private key of a certificate as a RSACryptoProvider. I get nothing:
Dim provider As RSACryptoServiceProvider = DirectCast(certificate.PrivateKey, RSACryptoServiceProvider)
That is provider is assigned nothing. The code works perfectly outside of Azure.

I am developing a vb.net media application using Windows Media Player which is working fairly well. However, I am having problems where the Function key handler will stop working after doing anything on the media control panel, i.e. mute, move the slider etc. So long as I don't touch the panel everything continues to work. I'm using the function keys to pull up menus for selecting other media and if I do anything with the control panel I can no longer display the menus.

What I want is a Global Error Trap that will not stop code execution. What I have found is examples where each module requires some code or a Try block. I need it to be totally generic. Everything from UnHandledExceptions to conversion errors.
If I have to use try blocks all over the place then it is not Global Error Trapping.
I need code at the highest level possible that will always catch any and all errors reported by VB.[code]...

I am working on an app that uses a third-party charting component.It is a .Net component. There have been some occasions when exceptions have occurred inside the third-party component code, but my try/catch is not trapping them.Should they get trapped?My code is structured roughly like this:[code]I have since found and fixed what was causing the exceptions, but I would have thought that this should trap them. What happens when I run in the IDE is that it crashes and Visual Studio throws up a page telling me there is no code available to debug, and no disassembly available.Fair enough, but I repeat - why doesn't the exception get trapped?

Win7 64 bit; fully patched VS2008 targeting FW2.0; VB.Net; running in Debug Mode (not tested in Release mode)I have a resonably complex app which I am refactoring a bit. As part of that, I relocated some code from a subroutine into a Click Event Handler. The Event Handler will, late in the handler, call the, reduced in function, subroutine. The point of this is thatNow when I click the button associated with the modified Handler I get:A first chance exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll<br />With Error System.AccessViolationException Attempted to read or write protected memory.This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e)

All functions of the app, except those that start from the buttonclick in question, work as before in the problem version.The problem persists after rebuilding the entire solution, after restarting VS, and after rebooting the PC.
