I want to prevent a form from loading if the systems regional datetime settings format for the date is not in the form of dd/MM/yyyy.
View 1 RepliesI expected this to work[code]...
The date gets formatted according to local settings, but not the time.
I seen API examples but, dangit, this should be easy and built into the framework.
Why is it working for the date but not the time?
For example, check out my regional settings for displaying time [url]...

View 1 RepliesI'm going to attempt to make a shell replacement for the Windows default shell: explorer.exe. I'm not sure if its possible using Vb.Net, but I can't seem why not. My end goal is to use a custom made shell for a Windows Preinstallation Environment instead of the default command prompt. I plan to use a 3rd party program to compile the program with the .NET Framework. Otherwise, it wouldn't work because Windows PE does not support the .NET Framework.

View 1 RepliesXML is used as one of our main integration points. it comes over by many clients at a time but too many clients importing at the same time can slow down our database to a crawl. Someone has to have solved a problem like this. I am basically using VB to parse through the data and import what i want and don't want.

I'm updating an old VB net application and trying to refactor some of the logic as I go. The app looks for data from a single date across a few tables and writes that view to a file.
Writing the query in SQL I'd get the equivalent of
SELECT * FROM table
WHERE CAST(FLOOR(CAST(table.date AS float))AS datetime) = '15-Jul-2010'
Ideally I'd use
SELECT * FROM table WHERE date=@input
and add a date object as a parameter to a System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand instance
Are those two comparable? Will I get the results I expect?
I am using VB 2008 and want to record a start date and time and then the stop date and time in a rich text box, i can get the start time into the box but so far can only stop the time instead of 2 seperate times, what i have is a drop down box with a list of computers 1-10 i was trying to get it so you picked a certain computer and that went into the text box then you started the timer and that was recorded, finally you stopped the timer and that was recorded but as i am a total newbie it does not work
Here is the code i have.

I'm using a SQL database and I'm writing a VB.NET client application. This application is used on multiple computers at the same time. If one of the clients makes an update to the database I would like to have the other clients to be aware of the update.
Has ony one already done this before?
I need to be able to kick off a vb.net program on a windows server from a unix shell script on an AIX server. What what I need to do to make this possible? I'm a newbie on the .Net side, but I was thinking, maybe make the vb.net program some sort of web service then have the unix shell script invoke that somehow
View 2 RepliesI have an issue in my project I am programming in both Matlab (Matlab2011a) and Visual Basic (VS2008).I've created a .exe file from my matlab code. It works well when I click on it with my mouse. But I need to run it within Visual Basic. I know it's possible to call .exe files with Shell() or Process.Start(), and it works well for files such as firefox.exe or notepad.exe. However, it doesn't work when I call my own .exe file ...It's weird because when I look to the Task Manager while trying to call it (within VB), I can see the process starting and ending, but its output doesn't appear.

View 20 RepliesWithin VB.NET, trying to find an easy way to in a sense check the check-box "Use Windows to configure my Wireless Network Settings". This is an option that forces windows to use your wireless over third-party programs that may try to steal control. I am aware this requires to have WZC enabled within services and that's something that can be easily accomplished one way or another.
I doubt or rather cannot find a proper registry value or API call to check or initiate such a task.
I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?
how you display a live or current date and time on a Windows for application.
I am working with Visual Basic 2008(VS Studio 2008).

I have several books, strangely this subject is not properly covered.

Finally, how do I make the time load when the form runs? I can't seem to find an event, that allows the time to display when I run the form. Currently, I have to click the area containing the label to get the time to display.

View 9 RepliesMy program has two forms. Let's call one Form1 and the other Settings. It's possible that Settings may be opened before Form1. Settings may also change some settings that need to be updated immediately on Form1. The thing is, if Form1 hasn't been opened yet, certain elements haven't been fully initialized (even tho Form1's properties can be modified since I do create an instance of the form on program load). Since these elements haven't been initialized, if Settings tries to modify them, it crashes the program.
Are there any ideas how, maybe to keep Settings from modifying stuff on a form that hasn't been loaded yet for the first time.
Ok i cant seem to trace why this happens, i have a button which simply opens a folder (from a list of folders shown in a listbox) in windows, using this Dim folder12 As String = ListBox1.SelectedValueCall Shell("explorer.exe " & folder12, vbNormalFocus)The problem is it keeps working then failing, ive managed to trace it down to the size of the folder thats making it fail, it works fine if the selected folders size is sub 300mb, but anything above and it fails ad opens the 'my documents' folder instead.
