View 2 RepliesI am trying to validate the character within a textbox. The textbox has a MaxLenght of 1
Private Sub textbox1_TextChanged() Handles textbox1.TextChanged
If allowed_characters.Contains(textbox1.Text) = True Then
textbox2.Focus()
End If
If allowed_characters.Contains(textbox1.Text) = False Then
textbox_userid_input01.Clear()
End If
End Sub
When I enter something in textbox1 at the debug it will do the if contain = false
but the if contain = true doesn't work. I tried a lot, but it still doesn't recognize true.
ow do i check for validation for my username field if last letter must be an alphabet?
the username is in the format of 7digit + alphabet i had successfully check for the first 7 digit using isnumeric substring 0,7 but i have no idea how to check my 8th letter to be alphabet a-z etc
AM doing a letter frequency analyzer program just like this website[URL]... but i don't know the right algorithm. Of course simple looping should work if it where just english letters, but the trick is it should work with unicode letters like arabic ,chinese etc.
how do i do this? if i can get sample code in vb.net or php, or an algol,
I would like to check the format of a string value (contained in a variable) before using it in further code.
- It must be 8 characters in length (no more, no less)
- It must be in the following format: 2 digits + 1 letter + 5 digits
I imagine the VB.NET code would be something along the lines of:If CStr(strMediaNum) (...not in the form [2 digits + 1 letter + 5 digits]...) Or (...datalength not equal to eight characters...) Then Exit Sub EndIf
Basically, there are letters in welsh which act as one character e.g. "ch", "ng" and "ll". As you can see by the code, i am trying to do this with "ll" right now.
Dim s As String = Label5.Text 'easy enough to see what i did there.
Dim i As Integer = s.Length 'easy enough to see what i did there.
For i2 = 0 To i - 1 'declare the loop
[CODE]...
The problem is that the letter "l" gets read out, instead of the letter "ll". So theres my problem, what i need to do may seem simple to some, but i can't see how something like this would work.
I've written up the following code (please note i only started to learn VB yesterday)
CODE:
And what I want it to do is when a letter, or character, is entered, i want to have Label1 display "invalid" but i cant seem to figure out how...
I need to create a function named isValid to validate some criteria, text length character content. have validated length but i need to validate at least one Uppercase letter and one number is used(minimum) i was thinking of using a loop to check each character individually. thats probablly where i go wrong i, i often convolute the simple and keep heading of track.

View 3 RepliesAlmost each letter of my mother tongue (Arabic) has two or more forms to be written with, due to its position (At the beginning, middle or end of a word) and what are the two letters before and after it, however, I've been trying to figure why when I type something in a textbox and use the AscW method to get the character code, it returns a code for the same character but not of the same form, which means:
If I type a word starting with the letter above, the letter would be in the initial form (its Unicode is &HFED3 = 65235) , but when I use the AscW to get the code of the first character it returns the code (&H641 = 1601) of the same letter in actually none of the previous forms but apparently in the isolated form (&HFED1 = 65233).I've also tried to convert the default encoding to the Unicode's but had no accepted result and no solution through reading the two Unicode bytes (which had to be [211, 254]).
P.S. I tried something else:
TextBox1.Text = ChrW(&HFED3)
Msgbox(AscW(TextBox1.Text(0)))
to check if the problem is the AscW method, but it worked just fine, I have another idea running through my mind but I'm still not sure about it .So, is there any way to detect the actual form of a Unicode character?

I have a form with a textbox, and i would like validation to occur so that a blank field is not allowed
e.Cancel = String.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox.Text)
Does not always work, because it still allows me overwrite an existing field with blank spaces, and then update.
i have this code:
If TextBox1.Text = "" Then
Label2.Text = " feild empty "
Elseif TextBox1.Text <> "1234" or "7463" or "3625" or "7642" Then
[Code].....
it works when its only only content "1234" but i need to place more than one possible valid input.

View 3 Replieshow one would go about validating input into a textbox for example:
Lets say the first letter the user enters has to be 'A' and the third letter the user enters has to be any number ranging from 0-9 and the length of their input cannot exceed lets say 10.
This is what I have so far:
If txtOperatorID.TextLength > 10 Then
bErrorOccured = True
sErrorMessage = sErrorMessage & "-No more than 10 chars" & vbCrLf
[Code]....
The coding for the length works(is there a better way to do this)? The coding for the first letter to be A works but then I have no idea how to set validation for any proceeding characters entered. Am i right in thinking I have to find their position somehow in the string if so how?
