I'm trying to get my program to send very simple text email messages. I did do a search beforehand, and found that I was having the same issue as someone else, but the specific question I have was not answered --
I've learned that if you're trying to send mail, you need an SMTP server... I found this list here but every one of them I've tried yields the same "Failure sending mail" error.
Here's my
Dim mail As New MailMessage()
mail.From = New MailAddress("me@mycompany.com")
mail.To.Add("destination-email@whatever.com")
[CODE]...
Is the problem that I need to show "credentials" (i.e. user/pass)? If so, what would those credentials be? Can I use my yahoo email SMTP server with my login info to do it? And is this all I'd need to add to add the credentials?
smtp.Credentials = New NetworkCredential("MyUsername", "MyPassword")
(before the smtp.Send, of course)

I have to make a basic program that: Create a program with a simple interface that
1. Asks the user type his/her email address into a textbox.
2. When the user clicks the "Evaluate Email Address" button, one of two message boxes pops up: "That is a valid email address!" with an "Information" icon, or "That is an invalid email address!" and on a second line, "Please retype your email address.", with an "Exclamation" icon
3. To be considered valid, the email address must -include an "@" symbol, and -it must end in either ".com", ".net", or ".org" or ".edu" (I don't know how to check a string and test if its last four characters end with any of these and make it say not valid email address. I think I might have to use a case statement)

I am developing an application which includes the ability to send email. The code works fine for sending internal emails but it fails: server unable to relay mail 5.7.1 when trying to send externally.
This is the code.
Public Shared Function SendEmail(ByVal SubjectText As String, ByVal BodyText As String, ByVal Recipient As String) As String
Dim msgClient As System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient
Dim msgTo As System.Net.Mail.MailAddress
Dim msgFrom As System.Net.Mail.MailAddress
[Code] .....
I get the same error if I change the password to something incorrect so I'm wondering if the NetworkCredentials are being ignored? I've seen articles where teh IP address of the server must be trusted by the SMTP server or it won't relay the mail but I thought I was doing the same as an email client such as Outlook with the code above: that can be used from any PC on the network without having to specify its IP address on the SMTP server.

I am trying to build a small app using Visual Basic 2005 and I have hit a bit of a stumbling block. I am using the following code to access the clients' default email program. I would like to be able to drop in the text from 2 labels.
Call
Shell("rundll32.exe url.dll,FileProtocolHandler
mailto:myemil@myemail.com?Subject=IP Addresses&Body=Please enter the IP addresses from the program:", vbNormal)
[code]....
The first doesn't seem to give me any results and the second just causes an error.

EmailAddressTo = lstbxEmailAddress.SelectedValue.ToString()

When I run this, in my message box, I get -

What is the best way to do this? create a form which sends emails. I want to use the System.WebMail class and not MAPI which I've seen on this forum. I also need a SMTP Server if I'm not mistaken and can anyone suggest a good smtp server I can use. Also user authentication when sending an email this must be secure.

I am a one man dev shop and need some outside opinions on how to approach this project.
I need to create a "post office" program that will send html emails thru the system.net.mail framework.
For each job submitted to the postoffice the app would need to read a user created html email string from the database, read a string of email addresses to send to and send out the emails based on a set processing time.
The first step would be to parse out the email addresses to find out how many emails it needs to send out and determine how many it would need to send per minute to complete the job in 20 minutes tops. I.e. if 1000 email addresses are submitted per job it would determine that it needs to send 50 emails per minute to complete the job.
The part I am stuck on is how I should queue the emails. If the app determines it needs to send 50 a minute should I only load up the first 50 on a timer event then get the next 50 queued up for the next timer tick? Or would it be better to load up all 1000 in a loop and build in some kind of wait time after it sends the first 50?

It is my understanding that Visual Basic 6 allowed you to create a standalone .exe file (compile all files into one .exe) with its package and deployment wizard. Does VB 2010 have an equivalent to this? If so, how do I get to it?

I was wondering that when you go and publish your application that you can do it in such away that all the necessery files are there so all you have to do is click on one file and it loads without it installing on the hardrive.

Does anybody know if it is possible to download email messages and send something to the email server to delete an email from the server using ASP.NET?
I have developed a program to download email information from my email server, but I can't figure out how to send something to the server to delete an email. I developed what I have using the resources at this location[url]...
I am sick and tired of all the junk mail I am getting and want to write my own program to delete emails from my email server based on criteria I create.
I have VB 3.0, VS 6.0, VS.NET 2003, VS.NET 2005, VS.NET 2008 and VS.NET 2010 Express. I have developed web sites and standalone programs using VB and ASP.NET. My experience and knowledge is not extensive, but i do have enough knowledge to create a VB program.

I am sending an email with an attachment using the following Code
Dim msg As New System.Net.Mail.MailMessage(req.EmailFrom, req.EmailTo)
Dim att As New System.Net.Mail.Attachment("C:Documents and SettingsmichaelrDesktop1216259.pdf")
With msg
.Attachments.Add(att)
[code]....
The file size of the attachment is 396KB, upon the recipient receiving the email outlook shows the file size as 543Kb. Strange thing is if I send an email with the same attachment using outlook the file size is 396Kb.I understand that file sizes can increase due to the attachment being base 64 encoded as opposed to just raw binary.What I am failing to see is why outlook send a file which is 396KB in size but in code when sending it, the same file is 543Kb.
