View 11 RepliesI am using VS 2008, Office 2007, and Win7 Home Premium on my system.I have a simple application which should be a breeze to build. All I am attempting to do is pull data from an Access database with four small tables into a data grid on a windows project. Should be simple, set up the data connection, choose a datagrid from the table in the data source view, drag it onto the page and done, right?I can't get it to work. It will all work fine until I attempt to run or debug the project. The data will not show up. The data grid does, but I get this error: A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll
As I said, the project seems to build fine, but it will not pull the data. After the initial build I get the message that Windows will show this page in Compatibility View. Is it something with Win7 Home Premium, or a setting somewhere?
I have XML files I am trying to read and import. I have XSD files and have used the XSD.exe tool to create classes for the elements found in the XML files. The problem I have having is that the same file structure can be used for different "message types" (different data structures for different purposes). Because of this, the structure of the file is roughly this:

Where the Order element is, it could be one of a few different element types in the message based on the message type. Currently, I'm trying to read an order file.The XSD tool created all the classes fine but it creates an 'Item' object for that inner element and makes it one of the other strong types during the deserialization, so I end up with something like:
Envelope.Messages(0).Item
Item is just an object and is not strongly typed until the deserialization happens. If I look at the data in Item in a watch window during debugging, it shows it is the strongly typed class and has all the data in the members I would expect to see, but I can't seem to access them by name or set an instance of the strongly typed Order class equal to the Item object. Any attempts I've made so far to read the data have resulted in the "No default member found for type 'Order'" error.
Im trying to set one variable equal to another but it says "No default member found for type 'Decimal'" what does that mean?Both the varuables are deciamls, one is a regular decimal that I declare in the sub and another is an array that I declare in the class. The line is:

this is in a for loop with i as the variable.

I'm setting up a simple XML read-write demo (VB Winforms) in Visual Studio 2010 Premium (tried in both the RC and RTM) and added:

Result: Error Namespace or type doesn't contain any public members or cannot be found...
VS 2008 equivalent example recognizes the Imports statement fine.I know this has to be me, but I'm stumped.
Note: I tried this with the app targeting both .Net 3.5 and 4.0. Same result.

I am trying to perform a simple bound connection between an Access database and a text box on a form. This is actually Chapter 18 of the "Microsoft Visual Basic 2008" book.I get the same error message when trying to create my own project "MY ADO Form" or the "ADO Form" project supplied from the DVD provided with the book. I am running the 90 Day Trial Version of Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 and Net 3.5 SP1.
My operating system is the 64 bit Version of Vista with all updates.The error when I try to run the application in the debug mode is:"A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll"and as a result no data shows up in the text box from the database and the data selection bar is grayed out in the form. The underlying database "Students Data Set" appears to be fine as I have seen the correct data for the fields "Instructor" and "PhoneNumber" prior to running the program and when connecting with the database.

I am developing application using VB 2010 in v studio 2010 environment running win 7 home. I am using nwind.mdb ms access db which is sitting in c:xyzlocaldata folder and is linked with application, i can run query and retrieve/preview data with no problem. When i run application, i get run time error >>Could not find file C:xyzlocaldatainx86Debugwind.mdb. I copied a copy of access db to this folder, i don't get error message. View 2 RepliesI've started to use a Vista machine for development. In case it is significant: I'm using MSBee so that I can code in the Visual Studio 2005 IDE while still building against the 1.1 framework.On the Vista machine, when I tried to build a particular vb project, I got this error:
error BC30464: Namespace or type'Compatibility' in the project-level Imports 'Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility' cannot be found.
The same project built fine on my old XP machine. I checked in this folder on my Vista machine:
C:windowsmicrosoft.netFrameworkv1.1.4322
...and sure enough, "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" was missing. So was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.Data.dll". Copying them from my XP machine to my Vista machine allowed me to build the project successfully.I'm just a bit puzzled as to why this happened. Why was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" missing? I'm also not very comfortable with my chosen solution - copying the DLL manually. It works, but surely there must be a better way.

I run the same exe file on another computer, but it gives error.The application works on my pc, but does not work on user's pc.I try to compile the app in other development machine and it is work well, the problem is my app doesn't work on user's pc.

I got a serious problem. Though I have made my program newly it shows error. I have used 1280,1024 animation only for first form then used 1280,1024 image for every form. Today I was checking then it was showing me error message for 19th & 20th form. If I use On Error Resume Next then it shows error for another form ; if I use same code there in the menu item I mean so that I can get rid of error when I click to show a form it shows another error. First error message is "InvalidOperationException was unhandeled An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is parameter is not valid." and second error is "OutofMemoryException was unhandled Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown". I have noticed it that it doesnt show error message for those form which have few labels and text boxes. It shows error message for those forms which have 1 menu bar, 2 picture boxes(one is 1280,1024 & another is 250,456), 2 group boxes, 40 labels, 3 combo boxes, 38 text boxes & three buttons. Please help me I need to get rid of this problem. Does it mean that I cant use unlimited control there in my form?

The specifics of the error message seems to be different for each user, but all appear to be script related.I have three browsers in the application, and only the url that one of the browsers is programmed to navigate to has this script error. The reason I know this is because that website is down today and they are no longer getting script errors.

Because this process can take some time the authors provided an OnFinishedLoadingDocument event.This worked fine under VB6.Now however under VB.NET 2008 framework 3.5 I get an exception thrown When I try to access a form control from this event.
