Visual Studio - How To Disable Pinging During Tests
Jun 9, 2012
I have a class that uses My.Computer.Network.Ping to get a boolean value on whether a IP address or hostname is reachable. However, when I'm testing that class, I want to disable pinging so that during the test whenever I run the My.Computer.Network.Ping it will always return false or throw some kind of exception.
I have tried the following, but I still get a true returned (meaning, the attempts to disable ping didn't work)
Dim restricited As New System.Net.NetworkInformation.NetworkInformationPermission(System.Security.Permissions.PermissionState.None)
Dim mySocketPermission1 As New SocketPermission(PermissionState.None)
Dim myWebPermission As New WebPermission(PermissionState.None)
myWebPermission.Demand()'
i am trying to create a Unit test for a WinForm in a Visual Studio 2010 project. I add a new "Coded UI Test" to my project, open up the code file, then right click and select "Generate Code for Coded UI Test" -> "Use Coded UI Test builder". I then start my application up, select "Record" on the UI Map control. I run my tests (in this case simply select a textbox, type in a random value, them click a button). I then select "Generate Code" from the UI Map control which generates the code which the test will use. When running this test, i get the error:
Test method HelloWorldTest.CodedUITest1.CodedUITestMethod1 threw exception:
When working in a VB.NET project in Visual Studio (2008 specifically, but hopefully the answer applies to any version) is it possible to have intellisense/auto-complete only show the "All" tab instead of the "Common"/"All" tab? Or alternatively, have it default to the "All" tab.
I have a large solution which contains a mixture of C# and VB.Net projects. If I get compilation errors because a project which several other projects depend upon fails to build, it is very hard to see the actual error(s) because of the number of VB errors in the error list window in Visual Studio. C# errors found in the projects I compiled show in the error list, but all VB errors appear (including in those projects I have not just compiled). Is there any way of turning off this behaviour so that VB errors only appear for projects that I have explicitly compiled?
In Visual Studio C# (2008) ctl-M-L expand all the regions. There's also a setting in Text Editor->C# ->Advanced to not collapse during file open. I see no equivalents in VB.NET.Is there a way to expand all the regions, not just the one which has focus in VB.NET.
When editing C# code in Visual Studio 2010, the ENTER key makes IntelliSense complete the current suggestion, without adding a new line. In VB.NET, the default IntelliSense behavior for the ENTER key is to add a new line after completing the current suggestion.
How can I configure IntelliSense to change the VB.NET behavior to the C# one?I already know that I could press TAB or SPACE, but out of habit I always end up hitting ENTER (and changing line).
How can I make it so that these messages don't show up in my output window from running my application inside visual studio (.NET) These stupid error codes flood my output window and I am doing some testing and using debug.print(" ") to print out vital information about potential bugs and now I have to search for the information like a needle in a haystack because of so many of these:
"The thread '<No Name>' (0x1e24) has exited with code 0 (0x0)."
WebMatrix is a web development and deployment tool by Microsoft so how is this compared to Visual Studio? which Use C# Razor Syntax is that more better coding.
I have to compile projects which was compiled in Visual Studio 6 in Visual Studio 2005. When i compiled i got a set of same error. I opened the project for VS6 by selecting File->open->project/solution and tried to build a solution by Build option but i am getting the following error.
I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:
* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....
* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.
* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.
* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.

Will i be able to successfully install 2010 beta 2 side by side 2008? because i want to test 2010 features and some development toolkits such as silverlight while i don't want to uninstall my visual studio 2008 professional.
I have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.
How to create a Random quiz? I use groupboxes for every questions that i have because it has 10 items per quiz then i have 10 groupboxes. Another problem is, i was planning to create a .swf file in my visual studio project actually a button to make it more fascinating to use but it is possible to have a .swf file on my project and every time i click the button on ".swf" file the visual studio form will appear.
I need to write a paper on the comparison between (Microsoft Visual studio 2005 to develop web applications using asp.net) and (visual basic and Netbeans to develop j2ee applications using java).I need suggestions for good webpages, journals or documents which can help me out here. I have to write at least 1500 words so any suggestions are welcome.
In a while loop, I am writing a progressively increasing integer value (between 0 and 100) to the Value attribute of a ProgressBar control, when it disappears from the window in which it resides. I have verified at the time that it disappears that the Min is 0, Max is 100, and Value is a valid integer in range.
Does anybody know which version of Visual Studio 2010 contains the full set of Visual Basic SharePoint Templates? I am about to embark on a project to create Visual Web Parts to be used in a SharePoint report.
At the moment I am using Visual Studio 2008 and even though the WSPBuilder is installed none of the relevant SharePoint templates are present.Having searched SO and the web, most advise to install the templates via the Visual Studio command prompt: devenv /installvstemplates
Alas the Visual Studio command prompt is also missing from my VS2008 installation. So, the question remains: which version of VS2010 contains what I need for pain-free SharePoint development? There is a rather large price different between VS2010 Professional and VS2010 Premium, so can anyone tell me if the cheaper version (VS2010 Professional) contains all the Sharepoint templates?
How do I disable the background compiler for Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008?
For my sins, I have to work on a large VB.NET project and it often locks up for 20 seconds at a time whilst doing the very helpful background compilation
I'd rather work blind between compiles and be able to do some work.
I am just wondering how I can add Direct X references to Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I cant find them in the .NET reference list, or the reference list, or anywhere. I downloaded the Direct X SDK for August 2009, but I can not add the .dll files to the reference list. Is there anything I can do to add them? I need the references for programming reasons.
I am trying to make a console program in Visual Basic on Visual Studio 2008. I want to ask the user of the program if he wants the premium version or the standard version. If he chooses the premium version, then I want it to say premium in his "receipt" later on and if he chooses standard, then standard in the receipt.
I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional and I'm trying to make it so I can click a button to send the application to the System Tray and then click the icon in the System Tray to make the application come back.
Can anyone provide me a method or sample code to do this?
This is my first try of Visual Basic 2010 Express, though I have 10 yrs+ experience in VBA. I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a desktop pc with following installed: Visual Basic 2010 Express... just installed! SQL Server 205 Express ... been running on pc for 12 months I've created a new DB in SQL for my test application, but have not added any users or permissions to it as I'm using Windows authentication.
I've created a new Windows Forms Solution in VB2010EXP and tried adding a new Data Source for my new SQL DB, but it keeps giving error message about not having rights ot the db. 2 days of searching on the web has confirmed many others with similar issues, but no obvious solution. Eventually I find a few threads about permissions and moving the mdf into the root of the HDD, so try moving my mdf file up closer to the root of the Hard Drive msf was in C:Documents and Settings\_SharedDataApplication_DataMSSQL2005Data now in C:SQL2005Data
I am very new to Visual Studio Application Development. I'm mostly a DB guy. I used Visual Studio as a Report Designer, not much of an .Net guy though I can understand it. I am now asked to create a .net application and I'm trying to create a "Hello World" starter app. I opened my Visual Studio, click File-New Project and all I see is Business Intelligence Projects and Other Project Types. My step-by-step guide says choose Visual Basic, Windows Forms Application. But I can't see it as an option.
I have visual studio 2008 installed and was using C#. I am now trying to find Visual Basic. I can't find it. Is there a way to download it or should it be somewhere in my visual studio program? I don't want to use vbexpress, just regular VB 2008.
I recently loaded my copy of MS Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition, with Visual Basic, on to my new laptop, one with a Windows 7 operating system. This version of Visual Studio had been on my other laptop, a Windows Vista machine. When I attempt to run any of my Visual Basic applications which has a MSFlexGrid container on it, I get this error message "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application... The error is: Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG). Also,
I want to use "OpenGL" in my project. Is it possible to associate it with "Visual Basic" application developed in Visual Studio 2010? If yes then how can we do it.
whilst trying to debug a sample program, get error code bc 32400. Also error code Class 'CLSID_CorSymWriter' could not be created system error &H80040154&
