Visual Studio - Why Are Code-behind Files Not Visible In A .NET Web Application Project
Aug 17, 2011
I am trying to convert a VB.NET web site project to a web application project, yet the in web application project, my code-behind files are not visible unless I set the solution explorer "show all files" option. Why is this? What setting can I change so that my code behind files are always visible?

I have a Windows project in Visual Studio 2010 in which I store all images in the project's resource file that Visual Studio created for me. However, it's getting cluttered and I'd like to separate images into multiple resource files if possible. I created a new resource file, but Visual Studio doesn't recognize it when I go to the form designer and try to change an image. The only file that comes up under the Project resource files available are MyProjectResources.resx. The one that I just created isn't there.

In my VS2010 VB project I have a lot of external references to DLLs, to the point that organization has become a major headache and I'm wondering if I am going about it the wrong way. My assembly references include common redistributables (SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1, ReportViewer 2010 SP1, DataVisualization, as well as some useful 3rd party dlls from CodeProject and CodePlex.
Currently, I am copying each DLL into a 1st level folder (/dll_lib) under my named project folder (under the solution folder), and adding the reference from that path. However, I see that Visual Studio copies the DLLs to various other locations (/bin/debug or /bin/release) in my project when I build the project or solution, and some of the 3rd party DLLs come with instructions to copy them manually to /bin.
What is the "best practice" for where to put the DLLs? Can I just put all of them under /bin and let the build event copy to /bin/debug or /bin/release as required? Should I try to force a single reference path for the dlls in the project output?

I have an old system developed in Visual Basic. How can I determine what Visual Studio version to use based on the source code files? I've tried to upgrade the application using VS2005, VS2008 and VS2010. With VS2005 when I attempt to upgrade the source, it says the system was developed in a newer version. I currently have VS2005 version 8.0.50727.42 installed.

I'm maintaining a WinForms application which was not written using any development patters conducive to localizing the classes in the project which were not directly associated with forms, or the code-behind partials of the forms. Thus, there is MessageBox() code with English text in it in almost every code file. I'd like to find a tool which will "scrape" those strings from the code, insert the strings in a resource file, and substitute a call to the resource with the substituted string in a comment.

I would use the System.Linq.Dynamic. I added the specified Dynamic.vb file, that starts like this:

to my (VB.NET)solution. Now Visual Studio does not recognize anymore in the project files the System.XXX references, proposing me to change them to Global.System.XXX

I'm developing an application in vb.net. You drag any type of file onto the exe, and a window pops up with some options for the file, then it saves the file to a different location, works some SQL magic, etc. It works great for the most part. The only issue I've found is that if the path of the file contains any spaces, the application will crash immediately with the error window:[URl]..I'm using: Private filename as String = Command$ This is located right inside my form's class declaration, not within a sub/function.Without this line, my program runs fine (although useless, without accessing the file).I've also tried (I think this was it, I don't have the code with me at the moment): Private filename as String = Environment.CommandLine So, in vb.net, is there a way to drag a file onto an exe and use that path name, even if there are spaces in the path name?

I want to know what is "Console Application" and what is used for? I'm a Self-Learner of Visual Basic using "MS Visual Basic 2005 Step by Step" and also have the book "MS Visual C# 2005 Step by Step". I found that in the Book, "MS Visual C#...", all samples / lessons are mentioning creating "Console Applications" while the book, "MS Visual Basic 2005..." gives lessons for "Windows Applications". Why is this difference in the lesson?
What is the main difference between Console Application and Windows Applications?

I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:
* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....
* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.
* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.
* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.

I am very new to Visual Studio Application Development. I'm mostly a DB guy. I used Visual Studio as a Report Designer, not much of an .Net guy though I can understand it. I am now asked to create a .net application and I'm trying to create a "Hello World" starter app. I opened my Visual Studio, click File-New Project and all I see is Business Intelligence Projects and Other Project Types. My step-by-step guide says choose Visual Basic, Windows Forms Application. But I can't see it as an option.

I am by no means a programmer, but I was recently tasked with moving our website to a new server, since the website manager quit. The Visual Studio solution was written in 2008. I can compile and run the solution, so I'm sure it's working just fine. But every time I try to publish the solution, either to FTP or to my local hard drive, the .asp webpages get deployed to a sub directory, where on the live site, they are in the root.
