VB 2010 Speech Recognition / Speech-To-Text / Voice Control

Oct 23, 2011

I'm trying to create a Speech Recognition support for my program. I want to make it so that if I say something in my microphone, the program just writes what I said in Label1. I looked for Speech Recognition codes in MSDN and Google, but I didn't find anything useful. I found a code, but it was for VB.net, I tried but it didn't work in VB 2010.

VS 2010 Bar-code Font With A Library That Converts Text To Proper Format For Bar-code Readers

Jan 18, 2012

I had a weird series of errors involving e.Graphics.DrawString() when painting a panel.I am using a barcode font [Code 128] with a library that converts text to the proper format for Barcode readers. That's fine, however, when I draw it to the panel, that's where things stop being fine:But, here's where things get funky. When I put it into a TextBox instead of drawing it via Graphics.DrawString(), everything is peachy:In fact, the TextBox one looks much better than the Graphics.DrawString() one! Am I doing something wrong?[code]

Use Speech Recognition With Voice Only Triggering Commands In The Program?

Aug 11, 2010

I am using system.speech currently. I want to use speech recognition to make a program. However, while the program is running, I noticed that some of the commands for windows (like saying "run") would trigger other program functions. Thus, while the VB.net program is running I do not want this to happen. Also, when the computer starts up, I speech to start listening right away rather than me having to say "start listening". How can I do this? I am pretty sure that it is simple. This is my code so far:

[2005] Speech Object Library - Female Voice?

Feb 17, 2009

I am trying to create a text to speech program that can speak in a female voice and also have the option to save to a WAV file. I have found some code out there using the Microsoft Speech Object Library. but I can only get it to speak using a male voice. Can't seem to find a way to add a female voice. Things I have found says there should be at least a male and a female voice loaded but only the male voice is there. Also, on my PC, i have the SAPI DLL in the C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedSpeech directory and when i right click and check its properties it says it is version 5.1.4111.0....but when my project is built, the Interop.SpeechLib.dll that is created is version 5.0.0.0.

The code I have is:

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim Voice As SpeechLib.SpVoice

[CODE]...

Which speaks fine with the male voice. Haven't attempted the saving to a WAV piece yet since i can't get the female voice.

SAPI Text To Speech "locks Up" Application While Speaking A Message

May 20, 2010

I'm using VB 2010, and am trying to add a simple TTS function to my program. I'm able to create a voice object, and get it to speak (Voice.Speak("whatever") with no difficulty.

The problem I'm having is that while the "whatever" is actually being spoken, the program doesn't seem to respond to input. The input does show up once the audio is through, but I really need to be able to detect some input (say, a mouse or button click) during a message and respond immediately, perhaps even stopping the audio.

Unlock With Voice - Program That Can Compare Voices To Stored Voice Files And Identify People

Mar 25, 2009

I have a voice program that can compare voices to stored voice files and identify people based on that. It's not the most accurate thing, since being sick or other weird things can make it fail, but it does work for the most part. I was wondering if there was a way to keep the voice recognition running during an unlock and wait for the person who locked it to come back. Upon giving the command and voice verification, if it passes, the computer is unlocked by my program. Is there anyway to do this in VB.NET?Summary: Can a program unlock a computer after it's locked?

Getting The Speech Recognition Code?

May 25, 2009

what I gather, the biggest difference between the old SAPI 5.1 and SAPI 5.3 is that SAPI 5.3 actually takes less code to do some of the same things that SAPI 5.1 does. This is just a simple example that runs notepad and says it is before doing so.One thing to remember is that the name of speech lib is changed again. Now you have to do this: Project -> Add Reference -> .NET -> System.Speech

imports system.speech
Public Class Form1
Public WithEvents recognizer As New System.Speech.Recognition.SpeechRecognitionEngine
Dim gram As New System.Speech.Recognition.DictationGrammar()

[code]....

gram is a DictationGrammar object. As it turns out, there are two grammar objects in SAPI 5.3. As you've probably already guessed, DictationGrammar is for spoken language and the normal grammar object is for simple grammar rules.

So basically, Load the grammar, set audio to the default input device and then start an Async recognize call. They have a blocking recognize call and one thing to note here is that it will turn itself off after each sucessful recognized phrase. Meaning that you have to recall Async recognize at the end of the GotSpeech sub if you want to keep picking up voice commands. As it stands, this will pick up one command and no more because it stops recognition.

One neat thing about the synthesis engine is that you can specify things like ".NET" to be said as "dot net" by Anna. Also, as it stands, the periods aren't said and so are pretty much useless. It acts just like the Vista Recognition engine also so if you spell out a word, Anna will spell it out too.In this example there is an undeclared variable named "cmd" that I fail to understand. What is the role of it and where does it obtain it's value from. I actually assume it should be the one to get the decoded\recognized text from the recognizer but not sure how that is achieved.

If I have the following:label.Text = "words words" voice.Speak(label.Text)

I would like the label on the form to display "words words" before it speaks. I'm a beginner with vb, and the only thing I could come up with was to use a timer. Just wondering if there's a simpler/more sophisticated solution.

Write A Windows Forms Application That Responds To A Limited Set Of Voice Commands?

Mar 11, 2010

The goal -- use VB.Net to write a windows forms application that responds to a limited set of voice commands after the user says a keyword, (such as "Wake Up"). I have the following code I am using from another site but I am getting an error I do not understand (nor do several others who posted comments at the same site.)

Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Deployment

[Code].....

If I had any understanding of how to create a grammer file I MIGHT be able to avoid this error completely, since I am only interested in a few voice commands (maybe 30), not the whole 60,000 word dictionary.
