Is there a way that I can parse through the objects of an application and determine if each one is TypeOf a particular form object? I have found no clear way getting a reference to forms that have already been opened. Complicating this further, it appears that not all Visual Basic commands are available to me when coding for an old PocketPC device.
View 1 RepliesMy problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.

Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.
After reading all the examples for list of T exists and Find and find first, none show how to handle multi-property objects. Below is bare bones example maybe someone could flesh out to show how this should be done.

I have a solution with several Projects in it. There is a Windows App project (called ImportClient), and a Class Library (Import.Library). The Import.Library has functions to perform data imports (I have other applications in the solution that also need to call it). But the interactive application, I want to be able to pass in some form controls, and have it update the GUI. No problem. But, I also want to execute a DoEvents() so that the loop execution doesn't hang other interaction to the app.
So, ImportClient has a reference to Import.Library. But I can't add a reference to ImportClient to the Import.Library, because the compiler complains about circular reference, etc. I don't know how else to define the My.Application object of ImportClient as a parameter to the data function in ImportLibrary.
(I realize this is a dumb question - problem is, for this project I have a tight timeline, and haven't learned how to do the BackgroundWorker process. If you think I could pick it up quickly, I'm open to some hints about how to update the progress bar on the GUI, and how to pause / cancel the background task.)

In most situations, life is good and all the individual key values are needed/unique. But in certain situations, the keys with letters behind them (ie...189a, 189b, 189c) all mean the same thing (ie...189). So I need a way to see if a key value exists (like the containskey method) for only the first part of the key and then return true.
I am using the IndexOf function of the string class to find a specific instance of a string. And based on that I have a logic to do something. Below is the example of what I am doing. The code is in production and is working fine. But for some instance I am getting an "Object reference not set error". Yeah its intermittent.The requestXML is a string of xml data passed in as a paramter to a subroutine. I am fetching the xml string as a form post in a request object. ObjName is a string, call it "Obj1". Me is an instance of a class inheriting from UserControl. Call it "Class1".
Now, to check the value assigned to Obj1, the vendor has the

When I run this in my test app, Info is Nothing-but when I run it in the vendor's app Info is an Enumerated type. Why?
I've found a little more info, but it's still a mystery to me-and so far it appears to be a mystery to everybody else, too.
First, I noticed that I didn't mention that the Collection is a Hashtable. I don't know if that would make a difference, but it is something I forgot to mention.
Second, there's a 'regular' variable named ObjName that contains the value being returned by Info. My understanding is that there's no connection between these, e.g. Dim X as Integer = 1 doesn't change the type or value of the object of CommonArgs("X"). But that's what appears to be happening.
Any suggestion?
Basically, I've got this plugin-based application I've used all the time in VS2008 flawlessly. In my current project (VS2010 by the way) I wrote a plugin for the application and whenever I try to use an instance of a particular class (in an external dll) from my plugin, I get an error.
I tried watching the instance and I got the message:
"Cannot find the method on the object instance."
in the watch window. This has never happened before! I also found that some of the extension methods in the plugin does not work.
Given an object instance, how can I recurse its members (i.e. the whole object graph) for an object of a specific type, or one that inherits from a specific type?

View 10 RepliesI have a list of objects, each object has a score attribute,The list of scores needs to be combined on the player ID to become a totaled score or series. My current thought process is to For Each through the list of individual games, and add the score attribute to a new list of scores with the same objects. So one list would be like:

Then go through combining on like ID's to make a new list of games, that would actually be the series.

Now I don't know how to add the player if its not in the seiries list without doing a heck of a lot more for each statements. If I add it after the end if then it will be added even if it is in the list..I tried playing around with List.Contains method, but I could only see if it contaned the exact same values i.e
SeiresList.Contains(game)
and because the scores are different (series vs single game) it wouldn't match, and I don't know how to see if it contains an object with just one of the attributes the same...
I have tried several versions of this with no luck. The casting of the worksheet works as my data is entered in other parts, but I have a section where I need to add data 1 column right of the cell containing the 'str(0)' value. Most of these parameters are optional. I have even tried the System.Reflection.Missing object.

i have visual studio 2008 in with i'm doing an ASP.NET application.Now i want to link my pages to SQL Server 2008. On my page default.aspx, I put a gridview and then i can find the connection string from there to the sql server db, which i can then put in a class and have all pages use it.Is this the only way to find the connection string for any servers on the network or are there other ways (probably better ways of finding the conn string?)
View 1 RepliesI recently began working on an application that was built by someone that is no longer available. This application is filling an excel file, but I can not find ANY code that uses excel. There aren't even any references to excel interops. My thought is that this a multi-threaded application and I can't see what is going on behind the scenes. I tried watching the processes in the task manager, but found nothing.I've never worked with threads before, and do not even know where to begin. Debugging the program with breakpoints at multiple locations does not show me any of these other threads. Anyone have an idea on how to find/debug threads of a program?
