I need to make an asp.net page where a user enters ISBN number (book ISBN) to a text field, cklicks a button and gets information about the book if it exists and what are author, title, publisher and edition.I think I need to impement web services. If you already had done such thing, could you please explain to me step by step how to do it, where to get the service, how to sign up and how to include it into my application

I am getting the following error when I add a service references that points to a web service.
'System.ServiceModel.XmlSerializerFormatAttribute' is not accessible in this context because it is 'Friend' in the Reference.vb file.
I have not gotten it in other projects that I have done that point to the same web service. I have recently add some code that I downloaded and cleaned up the errors in to my project and this seems to be what broke it. This code uses several new features that I am not familiar with, mainly the "Friend" declaration and also uses name spaces in the code it self. Also I converted the code from C# using an utility that I downloaded, that untility was not 100% in it's conversion, hence the clean up that was needed.
I created a simple windows service on my local PC and added the following code to it [code]...
Next I added a Setup project to this solution and added a custom action (By double clicking application folder then clicking add output folder then selecting primary output from the dialog). The solution builds fine but I have 2 problems.
1) Everytime I install the service, it asks me for the username, password and confirm password; I was wondering if there was anyway to get rid of it atleast while running locally. I tried setting the account type to user, local service, local system etc but it keeps popping up.
2) Once I enter the credentials (random ones), I get an error "No mapping between account names and security ids was done".

If someone puts in a username and password, username= a and password=b, for example it still allows that individual to view the next page and doesn't throw the error that i have enbedded on the login page to say sorry you have the incorrect password/username. I am building a client in VB.net for calling webservices methods from a partner organisation.[URL]../system.web.services.protocols.soaphttpclientprotocol%28v=VS.71%29.aspx because I can't get it to work using the Web References feature of Visual Studio 2010 (when I try to do that it turns the methods from the WSDL into classes).I have created a proxy class and can instantiate an object of that class no problem.
However, when I try to call a method which requires arguments I get this error:
Unmarshalling Error: unexpected element (uri:"http://api.service.apimember.emailvision.com/", local:"key"). Expected elements are <{}key>,<{}login>,<{}pwd> Does anyone have any idea why this might be? (If it's helpful I can post my code and the location of the WSDL.) (P.S. I can get the whole thing to work fine in PHP using ZF Soap classes, but for various reasons I need to get it to work using .Net)
Edit to add: I have used Wireshark to examine the outgoing and incoming SOAP message to compare them with the messages being sent via SoapUI, where it all works fine.What this has shown is that my VB client is sending a message where the namespace of the web service I am trying to access is declared as an attribute of the method, and not in the soap:envelope attributes.

I'm using Visual Studio Development Server (Visual Basic 2010) and it works fine. Now I've enabled NTLM Authorization because I want to test the website using a different user account. Now when I try to access the website I always get the following error page:
Server Error in '/' Application.
HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden.
Version Information: ASP.NET Development Server 10.0.0.0 .I'm using a test account which is a normal user within our domain. I've already set the access rights in my project folder to Full Access for this user but it does not help.
When I deployed my project on a server, in certain circumstances, I get an error page that indicates I should create a custom error page. I was wondering how exactly I would implement this custom error page the server asks for to give me a precise and helpful message or preferably, how I would get the error to just display on the main page?This is the error message I got below

(Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020003 (DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND) )" performing the following scenario:- Opened a sample VS 2010 WPF project that I receiveved from a co-worker (Project compiles, and run on his machine)I tried to open project properties (Project --> Properties)The project properties panel/window didn't open, all it had was an error symbol (red/white X) and the error message above(HRESULT: 0x80020003).I am unable to view niether the designer window nor the code window (no messages are reported) but the pane where the code/design shoud display is empty, all you can see is the background color.

I have had to do this for my web app, since it is clearly much tidier than letting the program bomb out with it's ugly default error page. My custom error page just has the customer's logo and a brief message saying "Error has occurred. Please return to homepage"The trouble now is that I have no way of knowing what caused the error, when a customer reports it.
Is there a way to make the actual error message appear on this custom error page too?
A while ago I wrote a library which helps me simply text operations, serial communications, PLC interaction using OPC Automation, etc... My problem is with the vb6 serial control mscomm32.ocx. In my computer, I can use it with no problem. Everything works fine when testing serial control and my forms can open sucessfully. When I try to run a winform that uses Serial library (mscomm32.ocx) in a computer that doesn't have VB6 installed, I get the error "Common Language Runtime Debugging Services. I've written a class for a new TabPage type.The only thing I've added is a couple variables which I can assign to the tab page in order for my app to identify which tab page is selected.This works fine on my pc, and a few others, but I have one customer who is using my app.When they run, and they open a new tab, the TABcontrols.tabpages.add(NEWTAB) errors out.I'm 100% sure that this is because it doesn't like the fact that newTAB is my custom TAB class.When I did some debugging, his pc moved past the error when I just added a default tabpage type.
