MsgBox Appearing Before Form When New Form Opens?
Nov 2, 2011When I initialize a new form to open, the subroutine in the new form starts before the new form is shown on the screen and so when the subroutine finishes and the MsgBox comes up, the form isn't showing.
Is there a way to make the form pop up first before the subroutine starts?
Close 1st Form When 2nd Form Opens?

The problem I am having is I want to close the first form when the second form is displayed, but every time I try using frmCustomer.Close() when the second page (Result) loads, it completely closes the entire application.What am I doing wrong? Jun 16, 2011I have a form ( call it NewForm ) that can be opened from many other forms, but I don't want to have the user to run into the problem of having many windows/forms open.I want to close the calling form and open NewForm.NewForm will prompt the user for information, but if the user doesn't find what they are looking for I want to have a "Cancel" button on the form. With the "Cancel" button I want to go to the previous form.is there a way to tell which form called NewForm so I can just reopen/unhide that form/window.

Form Always Opens As Edited?
Feb 22, 2012I am using VS 2008, Windows XP R3, and Visual Basic.When I open some forms in the form designer, (In Solution Explorer, right click on the form, then select View Designer) the form always opens as Edited. An Asterisk "*" appears after the form name in the open window tabs. If I open the form to just view the code (In Solution Explorer, right click on the form, then select View Code), the form opens normally. This happens for just some forms.
It always happens for the same forms, and never happens for the other forms. What I am missing in those forms where the designer always thinks the form has been edited?

Fill A Listbox When A Form Opens
Apr 25, 2012I am new to these forums. I had a VB.net class several years ago and cant seem to find this info in the text from the book used in the class. Here is what I would like to do. I have a 2 forms. One with three buttons and the other with a listbox. When I click on one of the three buttons (on form1), I want to fill the listbox (on form 2) with one of three arrays. is this possible, it seems like it should be.

Password Entry In Form That Only Opens Once
Mar 19, 2010I need to create a program that requires password entry. I was thinking of having a form that the user uses to set the password that only opens once (unless a button on the main form is clicked to reset the password.) once the password has been set, the form closes and another opens to enter the password and for each and every time the program is run. Another thing is that if the password has been entered wrong 3 times, the program gives a message box and closes on the ok button.

Nov 16, 2009I'm trying to set my software up so that when I check the checkbox for winRAR to be installed, it'll pop up a new window asking if I want to install the 32 bit version or the 64 bit version. I have no problem getting the window to show up but than if I try to exit out of the window and than uncheck the box (in case it was accidentally checked) it'll just open the window again. I am thinking I have to tell vb that when I uncheck the box it shouldn't do anything.
Here's my code.
(I know that the Nothing under the Me.chk_rar.Checked = False doesn't work but I left that blank once and it just opened a bunch of windows and crashed my system. I know it says "E:Music" right now but I just pointed it there so that there was something there normally it'll point to the other window. If I need to created a new Form for every little window that I have for instance the little window that I want to pop up, do I need to create a new form just for that little window to ask which architecture is needed and than giving the options for 32 bit or 64 bit.

Jul 21, 2009I am using VS 2008/VB with Access 2007. I have 2 forms that I use to create entries. In the first form (fomr1) I select the type of entry which opens the respective form (form. In form1 I use some code to read through a oledbreader the id rows and get the max value in that column. I take that value and I add 1 to it and then assign the value to a textbox in form2. The whole process worked fine until today which gives me this exception "An error occurred creating the form. See exception.innerexception for details. The error is Object reference not set to an instance of an object. "

Program Files Folder - No Drive Letter The Form Opens?
Sep 21, 2009I currently have a program that I made which opens other apps packaged with an installer. I have set the installer to install everything to the Program Files folder. However, not all computers have a C: hard drive. I have a way in which they can enter their drive letter in one form then in the next form it remembers the drive and will take them to the program. The problem is my program stores the drive letter in an xml file. On the startup of the program it looks in the xml file to find the drive letter, if there is no drive letter the form opens then lets the user set his drive letter. The xml file is stored in the folder "Math Wizard" in the Program Files folder. But if not all computers have C:Program Files I need a shortcut to the program files folder. I have been trying to use %ProgramFiles% (%Program Files% + "Math Wizardconfig.xml") but vb is saying that the % is an invalid character. Here's my code:

When I go to the "Data Sources" list view, I can see the new table.However, if I add a new DataGridView to my form then attempt to bind it to my new data table, the table will not show up in the list of tables for that dataset.

I also have a 'ListBox' on the form. What I would like to do is, allow the user to select one, two, or three rows (or all) in the datagrid, and press a button that will move the data from selected rows into my listbox (each row its own string in the list box).
I can populate the datagrib easy enough, but don't know how to access the cell data individually?

Mar 8, 2009I have a form with a Tab Control that has 18 pages. When I click on a tab it opens the page and select a textbox on that page (txtTextbox1. Select() ). This works for the first 8 pages but not for the remaining 10 pages. Although on these pages I can mouse click on the textbox, enter info, save then click my Add button that clears the textboxes and has the code (txtTextbox1. Select() ). The textbox is selected just fine. The code for all my pages is the same except for the tab name and the control names. The tab key will move the selection to the next textbox in order on all pages and the Enter key is coded to do the same. The first 8 pages have a total of 256 labels, buttons, list boxes, textboxes and checkboxes on them.

Feb 20, 2012I have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
