View 19 RepliesI created another form that had a pic and two simple buttons, one button plays music the other will stop the music if played and take you back to the previous form. My problem lies in when the users uses the windows "x" button to flose the form, the music does not stop. I have searched and failed and light that could be shed would be awesome.Apparently I saved the wrong file and am not on my VB box so this code is incorrect. I basically added the music to the resources, dim'd it and activated it with a button. The other button not listed in this code was set to "portal.stop()" and "Me.Close()"
Public Class frmFail
Private Sub PictureBox1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PictureBox1.Click
Me.Close()

Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.
CODE:
I'm facing a problem with my code. it's all about an if command. When the variable
xglobal doesn't fit the rule (if xglobal >=0 and xglobal<=xlimite) a message box should appear, so it does. However, after being closed the message appears again and so on.
Below you can find the code:
Public Sub Button5_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles Button5.MouseDown
If e.Button = MouseButtons.Left Then

I have a from with various timers. what is the code to turn off all timers in a form at once?
i all ready tried:
For Each crt As Control In Me.Controls<br/>
If TypeOf crt Is Timer Then<br/>
crt.Stop()<br/>
End If<br/>
Next
I am creating an HTML editor and I have added a save file option. The problem with that is it always opens up a save file dialog. how to I code it so it detects if the file has been saved and then opens the dialog or just simply saves the changes?
View 4 RepliesMDIform contains Form1. Form1's MDIParent is set to MDIform Form1 has a button on click that opens Form2 as a show dialog. I need this Action.Form2 has another button that opens Form3.Is there anyway that I can make Form3's mdiparent the original MDIform by passing Form1.mdiparent value to form2 (without actually setting that value) that then passes it to form3?

I have an app that opens and closes several other forms. How can I stop the fade in out of the forms when they are opened/closed in used in Vista/7? It just gets annoying.
View 3 RepliesI am using a Windows Dialog form in my VB 2008 project. I bring up the dialog form no problem with the following
Dim resultNewInc As DialogResult
resultNewInc = frmDialog.ShowDialog()
If resultNewInc = DialogResult.OK Then
...some code here ...
End If
And in the Dialog Form, the OK button has code
Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK
Me.Close()
But there is one problem. If I call up the dialog form again, the form controls have the text values that were typed in during the previous instantiation and a class which is part of the form was not disposed. So it looks like the form is being "hidden" and not closed. I tried to use the code form.dispose but it didn't work.
I've been asked by management to convert all of my applications from VB 2005 to VB 2008 (in preparation for taking them to VB 2010). I have a VS 2005 application that uses an ADO Data adapter which was defined using the GUI. I normally define my connections in code, but have been asked to get away from that in favor of ADO (and similar) data adapters.When I run the conversion wizard in VS 2008, it appears to convert this program, with some warnings and I get the 'Conversion Completed' dialog box. However, the VS 2008, will not let me close the dialog box, even after waiting for 3 hours. The only way to get out is to reboot the system.
View 6 RepliesI am working on an application in VB 2008, converted from VB6, currently running in Win XP. This app processes data from several orbits of satellite telemetry and outputs to the printer a calculation result for each orbit of data. In VB 2008 there is a small dialog that pops up for each page that is printed.It is kind of annoying, continually covers up the program progress bar and, I think, generally slows things down.Is there some way to turn this off in program code when the printer is called?
View 10 RepliesI have a very annoying problem and I'm trying to find the simplest solution possible, but I seem to keep complicating it.
My program displays a custom dialog box using the ShowDialog function (I create this form using a New constructor), but while my program waits for input in the dialogbox, my program continues to run other code, (I'm assuming initiated from other messages, but I still can't find good information on this, so as an aside to this topic does anyone have a reference about this), and arrives at this same point where the dialog box is to be displayed and displays it. So I end up getting a flood of dialog boxes.
My goal is prevent this excessive amount of dialog boxes. If the program arrives at this dialog initiation point I would like it to wait/pause until the first dialog box is finished.
I'm making a blackJack Game for my programing class and at the Form Load it enables one of my Timers for me with out the code to enable it, and the I've checked the designer multiple times and its Enabled is set to False.I"ve tried Changing the name of the Timer and it still runs the code and I've even deleted the Timer and made a new one and it still runs it.
Private Sub GameInterFace_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Login.ShowDialog()
If Login.Pass <> 1 Then[code]....
The Timers based on System.Timers are multithreading timers, I can readBut if in my application I have two timers:1) Timer1 (based on Windows.Forms.Timers) that every 500 ms execute the program main code2) Timer2 (based on System.Timers) that every 1000 ms controls a secondary eventif in the Timer2_Elapsed event I insert the Thread.Sleep(30000)for 30 seconds ALL THE program stops, even the Timer1 controlled main code.
View 5 RepliesI often use the process of displaying a dialog from a form, with the dialog user input then used to update the main form without any problem. In a new scenerio I launch the main application screen, I then show a login dialog ontop of the main app screen and can launch another dialog from the login if a new user is required. The plan is to update the login dialog (updating a combobox to reflect the addition of a new user) from the new user dialog.
See code below :-
'Update login forms user list as new user added successfully
frmRoomBookingLogin.cboLogin.DataSource = Nothing
frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text = "Updating password from dialog"
MessageBox.Show("The password text is " & frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text)
[code]....
The messagebox implies the dialog has been updated yet the text does not change. Is it possible to update the dialog when using a setup such as Form -> dialog -> dialog? I'm intrigued as why the dialog does not reflect changes. I have never refreshed/repainted the dialog as never required to in my other examples when updating a form from a dialog and never encountered a problem when using a two tier form setup.
How can I make code run when an application starts instead of needing an event to happen like a button being pressed or something like that?
View 3 RepliesHow can I execute a piece of code at set intervals without using functions or timers?
View 3 RepliesI have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.
My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.
So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?
How can I make the main form grey out/translucent black when a new form opens on top?
View 8 RepliesWhenever I want to reopen a project that I didn't worked on for several month and want to view my form in design mode I receive following error.

I used this project in VB2005 express, but also in VB2008.
i googled many and many keywords and sentences but , i cant found a code that opens the default web browser and gets it a address ( address is : text1.text )
View 3 RepliesFor couple of hobby projects of mine, I've been performing form transitions (fade-in/out, slide-left/right) using timer control, and I know its not the right way to do it. Using timer has its own disadvantages as it is a CPU hog if logic is complex and also, transitions are not smooth. So, I'm wondering how can I perform form transitions without using any timers and just by using native Windows API or any third-party library. I came across with FlowFX but found that it is limited only to .NET Compact framework.
View 1 RepliesI have a form ( call it NewForm ) that can be opened from many other forms, but I don't want to have the user to run into the problem of having many windows/forms open.I want to close the calling form and open NewForm.NewForm will prompt the user for information, but if the user doesn't find what they are looking for I want to have a "Cancel" button on the form. With the "Cancel" button I want to go to the previous form.is there a way to tell which form called NewForm so I can just reopen/unhide that form/window.
View 5 RepliesI am working with a simple game idea. I wanted to have two players running around shooting each other (very low graphics, like circles and squares). I've got this far; I have the ability to move around both characters, and change directions etc. ive also been able to set up my shooting. Only problem I run into is getting the bullet to move! I cant use a preset timer, because if I used that, I could only shoot one bullet at a time, so I would need to create new ones dynamically.
So my question is; how does one add dynamic timers to a form on runtime, and alter the tick sub so that it moves the picturebox (bullet) and once it can be moved, (I was thinking about using player locations in relation to the bullet, and if they were equal than the health would go down or whatever, but unfortunately, this means it would have to be directly in the middle of the player, which would be odd..
I have a background application that has a System.Timers.Timer running in it.When the elapsed event is raised I want to show a form.Now if I call form.showDialog everything is hunky dory. If I call form.show the form is not responding ... Now I suspect that this is happenening because the elapsed event is raised on a secondary thread but that said I dont know how to fix this.
View 10 RepliesI'm running VS2005, and when I right click on an object and select Go to Definition it brings me to the object browser instead of the actual code.Is there some settings that I can change to fix this? Note: it works properly for C# solutions, I am having the problem with Basic.
View 2 RepliesWhen I initialize a new form to open, the subroutine in the new form starts before the new form is shown on the screen and so when the subroutine finishes and the MsgBox comes up, the form isn't showing.
Is there a way to make the form pop up first before the subroutine starts?
when you login it is the meaning that another form opens. But as soon as the new form opens up everything closes. The code i used is this:
Public Class Form1
Public Goldhave As Integer
Public UserName2, Password As String

I am using VS 2008, Windows XP R3, and Visual Basic.When I open some forms in the form designer, (In Solution Explorer, right click on the form, then select View Designer) the form always opens as Edited. An Asterisk "*" appears after the form name in the open window tabs. If I open the form to just view the code (In Solution Explorer, right click on the form, then select View Code), the form opens normally. This happens for just some forms.
It always happens for the same forms, and never happens for the other forms. What I am missing in those forms where the designer always thinks the form has been edited?
When opening a button and opening a new form as soon as it opens it close for some reason but its not giving any errors as to why its doing this now I've checked the linked linking it to the next form that's fine.
