VS 2008 - How To Add Dynamic Timers To Form On Runtime
Jan 1, 2010
I am working with a simple game idea. I wanted to have two players running around shooting each other (very low graphics, like circles and squares). I've got this far; I have the ability to move around both characters, and change directions etc. ive also been able to set up my shooting. Only problem I run into is getting the bullet to move! I cant use a preset timer, because if I used that, I could only shoot one bullet at a time, so I would need to create new ones dynamically.
So my question is; how does one add dynamic timers to a form on runtime, and alter the tick sub so that it moves the picturebox (bullet) and once it can be moved, (I was thinking about using player locations in relation to the bullet, and if they were equal than the health would go down or whatever, but unfortunately, this means it would have to be directly in the middle of the player, which would be odd..

I have a background application that has a System.Timers.Timer running in it.When the elapsed event is raised I want to show a form.Now if I call form.showDialog everything is hunky dory. If I call form.show the form is not responding ... Now I suspect that this is happenening because the elapsed event is raised on a secondary thread but that said I dont know how to fix this.

Ive managed to dynamically create a form, and dynamically create a timer, but i have not been able to create the timer on the dynamic form. Specifically, i need to be able to have the timer itself create another form with a timer. (I realize that this would create a new form every interval on the timer, that is what i want to do)
1. A way to add the timer to the dynamic form, and maintain the timer sub on my main form.
2. A way to create the whole thing over (dynamic form and timer) through the previous dynamic form and timer.
I was thinking i could use a collection/array to store the forms and timers, but i'm still having trouble figuring out how to add entire forms or timers into a list. (A timer is not considered a control, so i cant use a controlcollection...)
Heres my code;
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim frm As New Form
[Code]....
*EDIT* Btw, my idea was to use i as a variable that increases every time a form is created, then insert the form into the array, with i as the integer. i just need to know how to create a new form with a different name each time. (as with timers)

Is there a way to dynamically create properties at runtime in VB .NET using introspection?
e.g. Suppose I had a class
Public Class Foo
Public Property Bar() As String
get
...
end get
[code]....
Is there a way to create property Bar at runtime?

I have a .NET library which I know can be fairly easily linked from VS project to reference it from code. However for security reasons I want to place the DLL file in another location on the disk and reference it from code including executing methods and passing method parameters. What is the proper technique to accomplish this?

I am trying to create a number of objects depending on the width of a row of an array, is there a way I can change the name of the variable being Dim 'd as I don't know how wide the array will be.
I have been trying something along the lines of:
pseudocode
For x as integer = 0 to UBound(MyArray,2)
Dim Object & CStr(x) As Object Type
Next

For couple of hobby projects of mine, I've been performing form transitions (fade-in/out, slide-left/right) using timer control, and I know its not the right way to do it. Using timer has its own disadvantages as it is a CPU hog if logic is complex and also, transitions are not smooth. So, I'm wondering how can I perform form transitions without using any timers and just by using native Windows API or any third-party library. I came across with FlowFX but found that it is limited only to .NET Compact framework.

I use VB. NET 2008. I'm starting to work with the Tab Control and command will want to know about techniques such as adding tabs at runtime using this control.
To illustrate what I'm saying, just take one checked on your browser or in the VB (Start Page, when we add other forms to our project).

I need to make a report but my columns will be chosen in run-time. I used to make report with crystal report by filling my data to query table and connect this query table with designed report by crystal report. but this time the user will choose the fields in run-time.

I have a nested content page within a master page, upon load the the page retrieves from a SQL a list of controls to create (Field Type, FieldName) i.e. String, Username.The function loops around the list creating the controls on the webform in a Placeholder, this part works perfectly. The problem that I am experiencing is the request to obtain the value entered by the user in the dynamically created control, I need to perform this call following postback/callback.
If I take the Content page and make it a standard aspx page with no master page the application works fine. Unfortunatley taking the page out of the master page is not an option (unfortunatley a restriction by my client)

I'm developing an application to allow engineers to conduct simple single table/view queries against our databases by selecting Database, Table, Fields.
I get how to use the Dynamic LINQ Library Sample to provide for dynamically selecting the Select, Where and Order by Clauses at runtime but I'm at an impass on how to allot for table choice.
Is there a way to provide for dynamically selecting the "from" table at run time
EDIT
So Both of the answers seem to be saying the same general Idea. I'm going to try to convert the C# into VB and get it to work.
The first answer converts to
NotInheritable Class DataContextExtensions
Private Sub New()
End Sub
[Code].....

I am new in programming. And I am coding with VB.Net (VB2008). On my form I have 9 checkboxes. And each of this checkbox when checked is meant to submit a value to a dynamic array. Initially the array was a constant that was declared like these:
Dim Notes() AS integer = {1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000}
But I want the array to be dynamic. That is the user of the program is to enter the element of the array. So I decided to use checkboxes. So that if the user of the program checks any of the checkboxes, a particular value or element should be submitted into the array. And the user should be able to check as many checkboxes and have values representing those checkboxes submitted in to the array.
For example: if the user check checkbox1, checkbox2 and checkbox50.
The array should look like these. { 1, 2, 50 }
or if the user check checkbox1000, checkbox200, checkbox10 and checkbox500
Then the array should hold or contain the following integers in this order; {20, 200, 500, 1000}.
That is the array is dynamic and the content/elements of the array and the bound of the array should depend on the checkboxes that is checked. What other means can I used to enter values/elements into a dynamic array during run time.

I have a question regarding the manipulation of a form at runtime. Let's say I created a simple form in the form designer before runtime containing a couple of buttons, text boxes and labels. While the program is running, I would like to change properties of these controls, while having the ability to move them around, along with the addition of newer controls, say a listbox.
After the form is 're-designed', I would like to save the new settings of my form, in either a database or settings file. Whats the best way to implement this?

I have a form that i need to be 100% Dynamic. So it could contain 10 labels maybe 100 who knows.
When you hover over a label there will be a different contextmenustrip to appear for each and every label. So all the contextmenustrips are Dynamic and contain 1 option maybe 2 options even 3 or 4 up to the users settings.
My problem is not creating a handler for when the user clicks on the contextmenustrips options. The problem is knowing which one of the options for that contextmenu was clicked!!

I have an MDI application which uses fixed sized forms. I've started to change the forms to sizeable and anchored the controls so they move when the form is resized. If the child form has a menu this jumps onto the parent menu (as it always has done) but all the controls move up the form at runtime and leave a space at the bottom of the child. If I change the form in design mode to cut through the bottom controls i.e. so the form doesn't appear tall enough, it corrects itself at runtime. Is there another workaround as it looks misleading in the designer.

Im having odd problems with how my form is displaying at runtime...if you look at the 2 attachments you can see at runtime the labels disappear under the check box's, but at design time they are positioned perfectly.

I have a background application with a couple of System.Timers.Timer running in it. I also have a NotifyIcon that when double clicked brings up a windows form.
My problem is that sometimes my form gets displayed but then for whatever reason it seems like it's losing focus and becomes un-usable (it just sits there in the background).
So here comes the question now... Can the freeze be caused by the form loading (i.e. me double clicking my NotifyIcon) and the timer tick happening the same time?

I need to represent the following query using LINQ:
DECLARE @PurchasedInventoryItemID Int = 2
DECLARE @PurchasedInventorySectionID Int = 0
DECLARE @PurchasedInventoryItem_PurchasingCategoryID Int = 3
DECLARE @PurchasedInventorySection_PurchasingCategoryID Int = 0
[code]....
Now, I know that a query in .NET doesnt look like this, this is my test in the SQL Design Studio. Naturally VB.NET variables will be used in place of the SQL local variables.My problem is this: All of the conditions after "WHERE" are optional. In that a query might be made that uses one, some, all, or none of the conditions. V.PropertyID and V.Value can also appear any number of times.In VB.NET I can make this query easy enough by simply concatenating strings, and using a loop to append the "V.PropertyID/V.Value" conditions.I can also make a Stored Procedure in MS SQL, which is easy enough.However, I want to accomplish this using LINQ.

Do timers not work in services? I have a service that is running fine, has been for a while. I'm trying to add some work that needs to kick off regularly, so I create a timer that fires every 5-seconds and kick it off when needed. The Tick event never fires. Never, not once. I'm not sure why it doesn't work. Here's the relevant code I'm using. I have 4 backgroundworker threads named, simply enough, bgw1 - bgw4. I wil show you the code for one of the threads so you can see what I'm doing.
