Why Does The Msgbox Keep Losing Focus

Jan 23, 2011

Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection("server=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=true; Database=memberlist;")
Dim sqlComm As New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM memberlist", sqlConn)

when i do this the first msgbox pops up, i click ok, it then loses focus, i think its actually minimizing. I then have to click it in the task bar several times to get it to come back up. from then it will sometimes give each msgbox over and over just fine, sometimes it will minimizes random ones. the first one seems to be a constant.

Forms :: Form Losing Focus - Keeps Loosing Focus ?

Nov 26, 2009

I have two forms in an application. One is he background and then I show another keypad form called with the show() method (not showDialog) because I need to perform some validations on btn click.

The kepad has 10 buttons and an Enter Button. The problem is that the form keeps loosing focus (I checked this with a messagebox which keeps poping up once for focus=true and again for focus=false, it continuously keeps losing and gaining focus) so it does not process any keypress events untill i click somewhere on the form. I tried using me.focus() in form load event but to no avail. The forms TopMost property is also set to true.

Losing Focus On Other Applications?

Nov 18, 2010

I've written a short application that consists of a form, listviewbox and a timer, the program sits in the taskbar with the form invisible, the timer is set for 40 seconds and basically it queries a database held on an SQL 2000 server, when a certain change happens within the database my form pops up and shows some data in the listview, this happens well, the problem I have is when the check is going on (every 40 seconds) the user loses focus on what ever they're working on. Is there a way I can stop this?

New Processes And Losing Focus?

Apr 19, 2009

I need to start multiple processes, with minimized windows - and I don't want whatever the current process is to lose focus.Something like this should be simple enough:

However, whatever application is running will lose focus when this code is executed. I've looked high and low, and there doesn't seem to be any relatively simple way to do this. I had some ideas about capturing whatever application has focus (I don't want to assume my program has focus), then running the above code, and then restoring focus. However, I'm fairly certain this will require win32 API calls, and I'm not sure how to do that.

Save On Form Losing Focus?

I have tried formating the deactivate event, but when I hit yes it just deletes the record entered.

Sockets Losing Or Mixing Up Data?

Oct 9, 2010

First let me start off by saying that I have dealt with Winsock for MANY years and am attempting to convert my project over from vb6 to VB.Net.This program was made to handle up to 70 connections at a time and constantly sending data from Server to clients and back.

There is one packet however, that reaches up to be around 177kb when sent. The sockets are set up to sent 1kb at a time.... (No other packet actually uses the whole kb). It seems that after the server sends this large packet... the client receives the data out of order. After debugging and monitoring I find that it normally happens between 3-4kb. While the first 3 are good and in order. My question is, is there a different system I should use instead of just Sockets (I have had similar problems with TCPClient) and/or can someone maybe link me to a sample project that would not have this error?

Why Is Socket.BeginReceive Losing Packets From UDP

Sep 25, 2010

The following code waits for data over UDP. I have a test function that sends 1000 packets (datagrams?) of 500 bytes each. Each time I run the test function, the receiver gets only the first few dozen packets but drops the rest. I looked at the incoming network data using Wireshark and I see all 1000 packets are actually received, but just don't make it to may app's code.[code]If I add a small delay after each call to Send, more packets make it through; however since Wireshark says that they were all received anyways, it seems that the problem is in my receive code. I should mention that UdpListen is running on a separate thread.Any idea why I am dropping packets? I also tried UdpClient. BeginReceive/ EndReceive but had the same problem. A second issue that bothers me is the global nature of the receive buffer when using Sockets and I am not sure if I don't process incoming packets quickly enough that the buffer will be overwritten.

Based on the various, somewhat conflicting suggestions from replies to this and other posts, I made some changes to my code. Thanks to all who chimed in various bits; I now get all my packets from dial-up to Fast Ethernet. As you can see, it was my code at fault and not the fact that UDP drops packets (in fact I have not seen more than a tiny percentage of packets being dropped or out of order since my fixes). Differences:

1) Replaced BeginReceive()/EndReceive() with BeginReceiveFrom()/EndReceiveFrom(). By itself this had no notible effect though.

2) Chaining BeginReceiveFrom() calls instead of waiting for the async handle to set. Not sure if any benefit here.

3) Explicitly set the Socket.ReceiveBufferSize to 500000 which is enough for 1 second worth of my data at Fast Ethernet speed. Turns out this is a different buffer than the one passed to BeginReceiveFrom(). This had the biggest benefit.

4) I also modified my send routine to wait a couple of ms after having sent a certain number of bytes to throttle based on expected bandwidth. This had a big benefit for my receiving code even though Wireshark said all my data still made it across even without this delay.

I did NOT end up using a separate processing thread because, as I understand it, each call to BeginReceiveFrom will invoke my callback on a new worker thread. This means that I can have more than one callback running at the same time. It also means that once I call BeginReceiveFrom I have time to do my stuff (as long as I don't take too long and exaust the available worker threads).[code]What is not shown above is the error handling and dealing with UDP data being out of order or missing.I think this handles my issue, but if anybody still sees anything wrong with the above (or something I could do better) I would love to hear about it.

Asp.net - Server.Transfer Losing Local Variables?

Oct 26, 2011

For my application, I have a page that redirects to another page (within the same application) via Server.Transfer. I need to do this because the original page has an object that I need to access by using the Page.PreviousPage property.

Once my "destination" page has been fully loaded, a local deep clone that I made of the source page's object is suddenly released from memory once I perform a postback? Is this by design--something to do with the Server.Transfer?

Public Structure myCustomObject
Implements ICloneable
Dim someField as String = "default value" ' Default value

At this point, EVERYTHING works as it should. Stuff got cloned over correctly and all is well.(Let's say this is on a button click event) Debug.Write(newObj.someField) ' Output: "default value"<- This is NOT "changed value from source page" for some reason when it was working literally a few lines ago! My guess is that the Server.Transfer stops any association with the source page after the new page loads.
