Oct 19, 2010What are the advantages of using Bonjour in a program (vb.net), is it even possible? Couldn't I get the same end result using just what I program?

Bonjour .Net App Crashing Due To Svchost.exe?
Aug 5, 2011I developed a .net application which uses bonjour to chat with other instances of the app on LAN. The application works fine on 5 pcs(4 with xp sp3 and 1 with windows 7) out of 6. On one computer (with windows 7 installed) the app crashes as soon as i try to register into bonjour service.
After digging deep into the problem i noticed that too many svchost.exe processes are running on the pc on which app crashes. After carefully terminating the svchost.exe's i came to know that by terminating one svchost.exe which consumes around 50Mb Ram, the app works absolutely fine.
The process path "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe"
Process Command Line "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalSystemNetworkRestricted"
When i terminate the process, app starts working fine.
PS : Even after terminating the process restarts itself and app works fine.

I'm programming in VB.net because I'd former experience in VB 6.0 and I've familiar with its syntax. I know that C# is preferred by the biggest part of .net programmers. I know that C performance had superior performance against many other languages, but there is a good advantage in the same .net framework? I agree that for domain model code that using the "traditional" unit testing approach makes the most sense as this would lead to a design that is easiest to maintain. However, for code that deals with the .net implementation of Windows API related stuff (file system, services, etc), is there really an advantage to going thru the extra work to get "traditionally" testable code?
It's hard for me to see the disadvantages of using Microsoft Moles for things such as ServiceController (or the File object). I really don't see any advantage of doing the traditional approach in this case.
Blocking Windows Users From Using Windows But My Program?
Jun 7, 2010I'm developing a program which would be the only program user will use. What i mean by this is once the windows is up, my program will run and blocks users from accessing any other program installed or comes with Windows such as internet explorer, email client, games, etc.. unless user puts password for getting out of my program.
BTW, the OS will be Windows XP.What i want to accomplish by having this is like below:
1. No one would be able to use internet (= no virus)
2. No one would be able to change system time (= no record corruption)
3. No one would be able to install any program (= less system maintenance)
My program is Kind of interactive Kiosk program only certain user can access windows and other programs.Also when it comes to system maintenance, I will remotely access the computer using pcAnywhere or teamviewer like remote access tool.So after exiting the program, i should be able to use entire system w/o any restriction.

Aug 11, 2011I made a custom media player for my work that uses a windows media player control and randomizes 4 songs from a collection. There is reasoning behind the 4 songs but thats not too important. So the issue is that I had made this program for my work but when i put it on my work computer, it wouldnt even open, i double click it, it sits for a bit, then MP3Randomizer.exe has encountered a problem. Any idea why it works on my 64 bit windows 7 personal laptop but not my 32 bit windows xp work comp. I have created programs on my laptop and then dragged them to my work computer and they worked just fine. Is it the windows media player component? Never had this problem with any of my other programs. The program was compiles with .net framework 4 and my work comp has .net framework 4 on it, it is set to compile as x86. I cant figure it out. A
