Write A Programme Where A User Can Type In A 'string' Into A Textbox?
Feb 6, 2012
I am attempting to write a programme where a user can type in a 'string' into a textbox. A data dictionary will contain specific keywords relating to a specific classification, where an algorithm can detect whether any of the keywords occur in the 'string'. Here are the processes that need to occur:
1) A data dictionary, that contains keywords relating to specific classes eg. (IT Issues, Printer, Software, Password).
2) An algorithm needs to compare the words in the Data Dictionary to that of the 'string' to detect any matches.
3) A rule set to determine what classification the 'string' needs to be classed as.
I am using MS Windows XP, and Visual Basic Express 2008 and I am trying to write a programme that will enter a lot of information into another programme that I have written for testing purposes. The programme that I am writing to has up to 500 line items, by 10 possible suppliers; as you can imagine testing this every time is too labour intensive.[code].....
This code correctly takes me through the various forms until it reaches the Input General Information Form, which opens with the top TextBox in focus. However the entry, "Escravos Gas to Liquids", is placed in the last TextBox.How do I make it enter in the first TextBox, which is in focus? From that point on how do I cycle through the remaining 10 TexBoxes to make each entry?
im trying to create a safe type programme on visual basic, which has a set combination button which when first clicked opens up a box to allow a password to be entered, once entered the safe is locked until you enter the password and push a button to try the key,
Following is my code. Private Structure DISPLAY_ELEMENT_TYPE

Actually this is vb6 to .net converted code. I m getting compile error at following line
temp = Lset(DispElem(i)) bcz Lset is not supported in .Net Lset accept string data type for first parameter and interger for second. If you know any alternet solution or if you have any source code for Explicit convert UDT to string type and vice versa.
I mean the same thing what the most websites have *CONTACT US FORM* that send your name, text that you have write to a e-mail. How i do this with Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition
I'm trying to code a program but this error repeatedly shows up and I can't for the life of me figure it out EValue of type 'String' cannot be converted to 'System.Windows.Forms.TextBox'. It appears in relation to this code
I need to write a program in VB 2008 express that takes an user entry from a textbox and strips out all the spaces, changes it to either all upper case or all lower case then checks to see if it is a palindrome. I must also include a loop structure and a decision structure. I have seen bits and pieces of code but I do not really know how to put them together. Basically I need it from the button click to the end. ?
I have a WPF windows project with a base Window, and then a series of user controls which I want to add at runtime based on a string from a file. I'm reading a string say "controlA" and i want to create an instance of the user control with the class name "controlA" and then add it to a base window. I want to have a constructor, but for now I would just like to see it work without.I need to do this: read a string (which is the user control type), create an instance of a user control based on that string, and then add the instance to the current WPF window. I've been playing around with Reflection.Assembly, getType, System.Activator.createInstance, Invokemember, CreateObject, and a few others. I can't seem to get it to work.
Is there a way to set a textbox in vb such that it does not accept a space or a non-numeric character entered by a user? I am writing a program that has a textbox called "phoneField" in which the user should type in only numbers and if the user trys to type a non-numeric character or space, nothing should be displayed in the textbox. How could that be done?
Im trying to improve some apps ive written, the first is a console app... Im trying to get it so that i wont get an invalidcastexception if the user inputs a string, when the variable is type "Double"
I have created a User Control (UC) where user type the information it needed and save it ti MS SQL Database and also have created a User Control dedicated for it's button, since my main form has split container and has two panels, one for UC which contain the button only and the other one for my Main UC where user enter the information.I created a Module that contain the function on adding the data type in UC Main to the database.
[Code]...
on My UCButton named "Save" I just call the function AddUserInformation. But the problem is the variable where it bind to the ucUserControlMain textbox remains Blank, When i query the my database table, only the UserInforID and the DateAdded has been updated and the other column remains blank where the variable get it in the UCMain Textbox...
I have a generic Class I'm using to hold information loaded from a database.I have a method which takes a DataRow as an argument, uses the object's known column name and extracts the data from the DataRow, such that:Dim loadData As T = CType(myDataRow("myColumnName"), T))works as my default assignment in most cases.Unfortunately, due to some horrifying design constraints, some of my columns may be null, and may also be taken from enumerations. This means that when <T> is Nullable(Of SomeEnumeration) the above code does not work because I can't cast 0 directly to SomeEnumeration.Zero.Is there some way to check whether <T> is Nullable(Of [Enum])? Or some way to write a method which allows Integers to be cast to Nullable(Of [Enum])?I feel like I'm forgetting something that would allow me to write one of the other of these, but my weak google-fu is turning up nothing.
EDIT: Okay, thanks to dasblinkenlight's answer below, I can detect when this circumstance is occurring, but what I need to do now is to take a type <T> which I know is Nullable(Of SomeClass), get a type reference to SomeClass and then create a new object of type Nullable(Of SomeClass) and assign that to LoadData. My problem was that I had a lot of difficulty in finding any function which would accept baseType as an actual Type.Parse accepted baseType as a parameter, I knew baseType was an [Enum] type because of dasblinkenlight's code, so I was, in this instance, able to code a solution. It's a solution which is very specific to my problem (i.e., T is Nullable(of SomeEnumeration)), but it's a solution nonetheless.
I have to make a basic program that: Create a program with a simple interface that
1. Asks the user type his/her email address into a textbox.
2. When the user clicks the "Evaluate Email Address" button, one of two message boxes pops up: "That is a valid email address!" with an "Information" icon, or "That is an invalid email address!" and on a second line, "Please retype your email address.", with an "Exclamation" icon
3. To be considered valid, the email address must -include an "@" symbol, and -it must end in either ".com", ".net", or ".org" or ".edu" (I don't know how to check a string and test if its last four characters end with any of these and make it say not valid email address. I think I might have to use a case statement)
The project I'm working on is a Multichoice RadioButton quiz with answers and percentintegers. At the end there is a MsgBox that gives the number of answers counted 'correct'and the percent 'correct'. Also after you press the confirm button on that MsgBox it emails the results to the built in information given on the SMTP information. What I am trying to do now is show the input typed into the textbox on FormA in the MsgBox at the very end.
I'm in the process of porting an old excel addin that was writen in VBA to VB .NET. The Excel addin interacts with a number of external com objects. The code sorta looks like this:[code...]
What I'm trying to do is read the string from the COM object and get it in durr for use later in my program.
That second line results in the exception posted above. If I try casting with CStr/CType I get the same exception.
The visual studio watch window reports the type of hurr.getString as a "System.__ComObject" whereas the VBA watch window reports the type as "Variant/Object/String".
Microsoft.VisualBasic.Information.TypeName(hurr.getString) says the type is "String".
I need something tje user can type in data to such a parts QTY cost etc. There are no predefined parts list so the user can enter any part name/Number and there is no limit to amount of parts that can be entered.
Does anyone have any idea what might be useful. It was thinks of a listview bu i can't see that you can type into that. I cant use comboboxs because there are no predefined list and i know there is some way to generate text at runtime (i think) but i don't know how to do it and i would prefer a clearer approach.
i want to know how to type cast to user defined type in vb.net.I have a mark object which contains student id , subject name, subject id and mark. I have to read the subject id from a combo box and read corresponding mark value from it to a text box.
When trying to combine the User path with another path, I get a an error:"Conversion from string "User" to type 'Integer' is not valid."
vb.net Dim Variable As String = IO.Path.Combine(Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.UserName), _ "AppDataLocalLowSunJavaDeploymentcache") I guess my understanding of how to combine paths is a bit unclear. I didn't realize that by doing it this way, I was attempting to convert the path to an integer.
I'm trying to add a new record to my database but i keep getting the message - "conversion from type DBnull to type string is not valid". I think its something to do with the Employee ID when VB attempts to save it to the database my code is below
Imports System.Data.OleDb Public Class Add Private Sub DisplayRow()
I now have SQL Parameters set up and I'm using them to save/delete/add my data. This all works well, except when it's trying to save a combobox to the datatable it appears with the error above.Majority of my comboboxes have datasources, and the valuemembers of these are the actual list items, not the ID's of the list items.I'm not sure why this error could be happening, I'm fairly sure I've connected everything to the binding source correctly; I've checked it a few times.Does anybody know what the cause of this could be? I've looked around a bit and I haven't found much
I'm new to VB 2005, the code below is actualy coded from VB 6 and just converted it to VB 2005. I'm having trouble with line that's on bold letters. In VB 6 this works just ok. By the way the error message is "Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'ADODB.Connection'." [code]
