Dec 18, 2010The drive is connected via USB and the problem I'm having is that, periodically, while my code is executing, the usb drive seems to disconnect and reconnect. (Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. IE, i want to insure that whatever read or write that is requested is actually executed even in the case of a temporary drive interruption.

VS 2008 : Scanning A Hard Drive For A Certain File Type?
Mar 29, 2010I wrote a program that can kinda of read Docx files. I can extract the text of the file and the metadata that word puts in the file not the stuff you see when you write click and go to properties. I Can extract and view that data I'm working on making the subroutine (i don't know if its an algorithm there is no math.Anyway I want this to be a forensic program where it will scan the whole hard drive and add all the docx files to a listbox. but some folders that where hidden like $inplace they were left over from my windows 7 upgrade. they cause it to crash. is there anyway to be able to scan every folder on the PC. I tried launching the complied .exe by right clicking and hitting run as admin but it still crashed when i executed that code.

My quesion is, since I'm not actively modifying the byte array, can I impliment a form of multithreading where all 3 threads read the same byte array at the same time?

Jun 22, 2011This is my first attempt at creating a Winforms application, and I have been developing in the .Net Framework (Silverlight, ASP.Net, WPF) for about 6 months. So, my appologies if this is a newbie question.
Basically what I am doing right now is taking the drawings of a stylus-based input, and storing them into an image field in a SQL Server database. Then, in another form, I go and get that image out of the database, and load it into a picture box. It works, but it is rather "sloppy" how it got there.When the user clicks save, it stores that image into a temporary folder, then converts it to a byte array and throws it into the database that way. Then, it deletes the file from the temporary folder. When retrieving it, it pulls it out of the database in a byte array, then converts it to an image in a temporary folder, thus displaying it on the form.
Is there a way that I can just bypass the storing of the file onto the user's harddrive both times, and go from byte array to picturebox?

Nov 9, 2007I'm trying to get hard drive temperature data.I can get the temperature via MSStoragedriver_ATAPISmartData.And, I can get all sorts of drive info (model, serial #, etc. via the Win32PhysicalMediaClass.The trouble is trying to link the two together.I get this temperature info, but I don't know which drive it is.The only identifier I can get from MSStoragedriver_ATAPISmartData is InstanceName.That looks like it has the model number embedded in it, but I can't get model number in Win32 my question is how can I get the temperature data and realte it to a specific drive?

Write To Specific Pos In Binary File In VB 2008?
Oct 26, 2010I'm amazed at this situation. In QBasic, you could just easily GET and PUT whatever you wanted at the exact position in the file that you wanted. Now in Visual Basic 2008 I'm just completely stumped.
I can't use FilePut or FilePutObject because of a twisted issue. It adds a couple of bytes to describe the length of the data being written: what's the point of BINARY read/write if it won't allow you to write EXACTLY what you want and nothing less or more? There's a way to turn off this issue, and that's by setting the parameter StringisFixedLength to TRUE, but that's where the twisted part comes in. You can't do that. As far as I can tell you have to redefine the function using SUB, for example:

My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllBytes. To my amazed surprise, this function doesn't even bother to include the possibility that I might want to put the data in a specific position within the file! I can't believe this. You can either specify to APPEND at the end or not, in the latter case apparently resulting in a write to the beginning of the file. No option at all to specify where in the file you want to put the data. I can't believe this.
How do you write to a SPECIFIC position in a binary file in VB 2008, and do it without the program deciding to add a few "informative" bytes to your data before it's written (totally undermining the whole point of binary files)?
