View 1 RepliesWe are opening a Word document from our Visual Basic 2010 application using the Word object. When we run our application under Windows Server 2008 the document name is truncated in the main window title for the document. This is not the case when we run our application under Windows XP. Is there a way to prevent this truncation under Windows Server 2008?Mary Leathem

View 1 RepliesI am trying to access MS/Word document properties without opening the file in Word. Right now I have an app that reads the document properties but it has to open the document in word. This makes it run very slowly and also makes it susceptible to crashing if the document is corrupted. In Windows Explorer, you can right-click on a word document file and select properties. The ensuing dialog box contains, in addition to the usual information, two additional tabs labelled "Summary" and "Custom" that correspond to the same tabs in the dialog box you can open from File/Properties menu in Word. I know windows explorer is not opening the document in word because there is no instance of word.exe in task manager and because it has no difficulty in obtaining this information from the file even when it cannot be opened in Word because the document has become corrupted.If anyone could help me figure out how to read custom and built-in document fields (properties) from the file without opening it in Word,

View 1 Repliesi need to write more than one string to a text document. for instance if i use mutiple user inputs and get this information:
Username= Tom password= PassW0rd
status= Enabled what is the best, simplest way to add these 3 string to one text document?
.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText("C:User1", Text as String,
False) will just do one line in a text document.
Could anybody point me in the right direction on how to write to a word document and which references to use.

What is the best way to write data from a hierarchical set of objects to a file? The highest order parent has 1000's of children all with children (DOM style). Trying to traverse the tree and creating one big string which is then written to a file is throwing an out-of-memory exception while creating the string.
Details I've created a set of classes that make up an HTML document. There was control that I needed that the pre-packaged HtmlElement and HtmlDocument didn't give. The Document Object Model is maintained throughout, with some similar methods and properties and such. I'm using the custom classes to create a very large HTML document. When I say large, I mean on the order of over 2000 printed pages. It's doubtful that they will all be printed, but some will be.
My base HTMLElement object, from which all other objects are derived, contains an OuterHTML property which, as expected, gets the full HTML of the calling object and the HTML of all child elements. After the code which generates the report runs, I have my HTMLDocument object containing the entire report which needs to be written to a file. Here is where I keep running into problems.
If I call OuterHTML on the HTMLDocument object, I get an out of memory exception.
Other reports have saved fine, but this is by far the largest report I've thrown at my HTMLElement object. My assumption is that the property call is generating too much text.
I am basically just creating a new .HTML file, opening it for reading, and writing in all of the text. Like:
File.WriteAllText(FileName, HtmlDoc.OuterHTML)
I am trying to retrieve all processes running on a machine with the usual information; process id, name and the memory usage. I am trying to export it all under one xml file, however to get all the information I had to use 2 separate methods. To get the process id, name and session id (process owner) I used the following code along with a dictionary and a class, using a .net library called Cassia.
Using server As ITerminalServer = manager.GetRemoteServer("Spartacus")
server.Open()
For Each process As ITerminalServicesProcess In server.GetProcesses()
If Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(process.ProcessId) Then
dictprocess.Add(process.ProcessId, New Processes(process.ProcessId, process.ProcessName, process.SessionId))
[Code] .....
As you can see the unique id (process id) is the same in each xml. Is there any way I can write the xml so that the information from both methods can be under one tag?
I am using the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel library in an ASP.NET application, and I have populated a Worksheet in a Workbook. I want the user to be prompted to Save the document to their machine, but I cannot find a way to do it (myWorkbook.SaveAs(...) doesn't work).

I need to be able to create an xml document given that the format is specified in a given xsd document and the data is in a dataset. Is there an easy way to do this in Visual Studio or Access 2007 or will this require writing out the xml document one item at a time to match the xsd?

I am parsing a web page with the HTML agility pack in vb.net and it works great most of the time, but I have come across a site I need help with.
When I go to grab the web page with my http object (I am using chilkat http and it does not have a javascript engine) I get back the page which is poorly written with document.writes for basically the entire page.
I do not want to use the browser control to first render the page.
Do you know of anything that will allow me to parse this page easily with xpath... does xpath work with javascript? Is there a way for me to remove the javascript with the agility pack?
Basically, I have a quiz program for which It would be much simpler for me If i could pull the strings for the correct questions to display and answer to test if i could pull them from excel. For example,
vb If qststrng = (excel document cell A1) and answrstrng = (excel document cell B1) Then
'Correct End if
Or maybe there's something much simpler already integrated into Visual Studios 2010 in which i can copy and paste my excel data and then pull the data in a similar way all within Visual Studios?
I have a function on my program that allows a user to load a listbox filled with words that are matched with words inside a databank. The databank is filled with 2 string arrays and file of .jpg Pictures. The Arrays attached to each word inside the listbox are approximately one page. Each page is two paragraphs of Text(string Array) and one Picture(20Kbytes).My problem is this. When the user selects the option print all, the listbox with approximately 10255 words is selected and begins to fill a Microsoft Word Document.Because the alotted amount of space needed for the MS Word Document is approximately 5 Gbytes,I need to open about 10 Documents and insert the String Array's and Pictures into each document one at a time.Is there anyway to check the filesize of the Open Document before saving the document.This way I could check the open document inside the algorithm for 512 Mbytes of memory and save the document before the size gets above 512 Mbytes.[code]

I get the error of : Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation
This program is being used to analyze an excel document with coordinates for a robot. The entire program works...My boss indicated he wanted me to throw an exception in whenever a coordinate that wasn't being given a tolerance wasn't supposed to move, he wanted the program to give an error message. Which I figured out and outputs a message box saying "Result Compare Fail!"
Now here is my dilemma..whenever I encounter a section in the excel sheet analyzing multiple variables, I still get the error message, because the program doesn't think of it as multiple variable coordinates changing. Is there an easy way to fix this? I'm stumped! This is one of the cases, but they are all very similar.

how I would count the rows in an excel document until a row has no text. For example:
A1 has a value of 1
A2 has a value of 2
A3 has a value of 3
A4 is blank
So what I want is to count the rows until there is no value. For this example it would stop at A3 because there is no value in A4
I have an app that uses ADO to read through an Excel document. The program ran great on XP-64, but now I'm on Windows 7-64.I've been reading all kinds of stuff on this, turning on IIS, and other things. All my settings seem to confirm a correct setup.

I was developing a software with related to Excel, in which I have to write and SAVE the details at appropriate columns. I am currently having a problem in saving the data.

Very first time I debug the coding I haven't got much problem. But debugging it again gives me an Error AS: "A file named 'Resume.XLW' already exits in this location. Do you want to replace it?"
I was able to see this since I have enabled the display alerts. Disabling it generates a save as window.
I want to retrieve the value from example Cell C4 and dim it as String and then retrieve Cell D8 and dim as string etc.

I have read and googled a ton of xml documentation but haven't quite gotten an answer to what Im trying to do. I am trying to create an XSD document that generates explicit type definitions for fields in the dataset. I am then trying to create a sample XML document that validates against the XSD document.
This works fine inside of visual studio because I can read in the schema and the document and it validates BUT, the xml document created has no real reference to the XSD via xlmns or other method. If I want to use this xml data in say MS Excel and I try to import it doesn't know where the XSD is to validate against so it assumes it based on the values. Is there a way in my code to add the xlmns to both the XSD and XML if that is what is needed to solve this? [Code]
I was trying to edit a excel document and save under different name and my coding for this is as follows.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
'Open
Dim MyExcel As New Excel.Application
MyExcel.Workbooks.Open("C:\Test\WalkAir.xlsx")
'Extract
MyExcel.Sheets("sheet1").Activate()

While debugging the code it resulting with me an error message as Public member 'SaveAs' on type 'ApplicationClass' not found.
My application needs to extract an embedded file (OLE object) from an excel 2003 document to a file on disk. This file can be any type, not only an Office document. Searching in the web it seems to be possible by copying OLE object to Clipboard and later copying (binary) it to a file (¿perhaps using MemoryStream and FileStream?), but I see no working code about this.
