Jul 25, 2008I'm using VB.Net's Excel component to read Excel file, but the performance is totally slow, since it has to loop through cells to get values. Reading a file containing one sheet with 1162 rows and 105 columns (which is small size compared to my general requirement) already costs more than 5 minutes.1. I want to ask if any of you have suggestion on reading such an Excel file with better performance, except OleDB, cuz most compies here have vesion problem?2. Is it normal that it tooks a long time for Excel component to read Excel file, or is it that I implement the code in a wrong way?

It loads the data, but there are no headers. I didn't make the code, just copied it using various sources as no one source was able to give me what I wanted.How would I go about adding a header row and making the font bold and increasing the width of each column?
Reading EXCEL In 2010 Detecting Blank Cells
May 16, 2012My Visual Basic .Net 2010 application reads data from an EXCEL spreadsheet which will be generated by my "customers". The responses to Alkis last year (23 July 2011) has been a big help and got me over a hump in my application. Now I am down to the last issue - how do I detect a blank cell? Valid data is numeric, starts at a fixed cell (A5 to be specific), and will be continuous until it ends with blank cells. While blank cells appear to print a "zero", when I try to use zero as an end criteria I get a 'System.InvalidCastException'. When I put in a specific end value (-1) in the last cell all works fine but that, of course, is an invitation to a user error.What is the difference between "Value" and "Value2" and where might I find documentation that explains the difference? Jul 5, 2009My main goal is to have an excel spreadsheet that automatically plots the overall success of my stock portfolio over time (% change over time). I've been able to incorporate stock data into my spreadsheet by linking it to the web, but the trouble is the spreadsheet will keep no history of what the previous stock values were, so I can't graph how things change over time. This sounds like it might be too complicated to be built in to excel, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to program this in Visual Basic. Maybe something like this.... If refresh then new cell plus new time stamp. Another possibility would be to have a whole bunch of cells that refresh only once but at longer and longer intervals, e.g.,

VS 2010 Reading / Cutting And Pasting Within One Excel Document.
May 22, 2011Basically i work as a desktop support officer. our team does everything from fixing software errors on PCs in the office to moving them from one desk to another. When we do have to move anything though, it needs to be tracked so that our records can be accurate. To track where things have moved to, we have to:
1. fill out a form in an excel format and then fill out the same information into a text file format, and then attach both formats to the job record in our job listing system and send it to our hardware tracking team.
2. If an asset is being taken away to storage, but is considered to be too old, it needs to have an excel table filled out to create a 'disposal' label, or it can create a 'redeploy' label if it still has some years left in it.
3. If we are putting out a brand new asset, it needs to be updated on our tracking sheet to show that the asset is no longer in our storage as brand new.
This obviously creates a lot of administration work for our staff, so i have built my program to take all the information required once, and then split it off to the forms and labels as required.The part I'm stuck at is number 3. I have been working with the excel files in the following format:[code]What i need to do is as the title suggests, search an excel work book (the user will point to it) for the Asset Number in a particular sheet. Once it finds the asset number, cut the entire line out of the sheet and paste it into a different worksheet at the next empty line with a few edited values.

This does not copy the cells. It simply displays an email with a body that says "true".
I am using the excel sheet to do other things which work fine, so the excel code works. Just having trouble copying the cells.

But I want to avoid user from changing the format because they can easily right click the Excel cells, and choose Format Cells. How can I disable this option in Excel via vb.net code so that user will always follow my format?

From what I can gather, it more than likely comes down to this line:

All I need is the text from the cells, not to create an object for each cell (and then not send them to garbage collection).Is there an easier way of just getting the text? Ideally, if I can get a method for getting the text values of the cell, I'd like to get the multiple rowArray()'s added to a master array and update the program's values later.
EDIT:I also realize that I have two options if I were to create a master array, say mArr, to hold all the data.Would it be better performance-wise to have mArr to be large and the sub arrays small, or mArr to be small and the sub arrays to hold more of the information?I ask because the files that will be imported will have more rows than columns, so I was wondering if there was any "set" way of doing it.
