VS 2010 Reading Excel Does Not Return Any Values In VB Application?

I am developing a vb.net app that should read cell values from excel. However, it is not returning any results and I thought that it would be really simple. I have imported all the references viz. Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library.
Following is the function in my class file which should read the excel file

If a use the NPV() function in Excel (2010) with a discount rate of 5% and 10 cells that each contain 505,000 the resulting NPV function call "=NPV(5%,C2:C11)" returns the value of 3,899,496.
If I use the Financial.NPV() method in the Microsoft.VisualBasic namespace (in my C# application) and pass in a discount rate of 5% (as a double) and an array of 10 doubles with a value of 505,000 each, the VB function returns the much lower value of 100,999.99 (plus a few more decimals).

Essentially all I want to do is have a user form where you enter a reference number, hit enter and it searches an excel 2010 spreadsheet for that reference number. If the reference number is found it returns the associated name which is in the cell in the column on the right. (e.g. ref = A1 & name = B1).

how do i simply query the database and return values to my textboxes etc? all i can fiqure out is the default views but that is not what im after, also how to add data as well (lets say i have a text box with data and i wish to add it to the database)im sure its simple but i cant figure it out, in vba i just used the current sheets or tables but this is beyond me. i will admit it.

At present I have wrote an application (in-house CRM, vb .net 2010) which allows me to send emails under the selected customer & I categorised these emails.As these are categorised I can return data to display email history in my program by using search criteria:

I am confused; I am using VB2010, IBM.iSeries.DB2 on an as400 V5R4. I am trying to establish an OLEDB connection, and return the values from the selected table to a DataGridView. I had one of the admin's make me file named GARBAGE, in the Rprtaccess catalog. In the past, I have been able to connect via access and an ODBC connection. My project is too big for access, and the SQL middleware we have is clunky and not user friendly. This is a program that will generate the SQL statements, specifically the WHERE: clause and populate the datagrid with the selected criteria. In essence I am making a user friendly striped down program, that has variables that are manipulated by the end user, and the rest, referenced tables and libraries are coded.

My Visual Basic .Net 2010 application reads data from an EXCEL spreadsheet which will be generated by my "customers". The responses to Alkis last year (23 July 2011) has been a big help and got me over a hump in my application. Now I am down to the last issue - how do I detect a blank cell? Valid data is numeric, starts at a fixed cell (A5 to be specific), and will be continuous until it ends with blank cells. While blank cells appear to print a "zero", when I try to use zero as an end criteria I get a 'System.InvalidCastException'. When I put in a specific end value (-1) in the last cell all works fine but that, of course, is an invitation to a user error.What is the difference between "Value" and "Value2" and where might I find documentation that explains the difference? Basically i work as a desktop support officer. our team does everything from fixing software errors on PCs in the office to moving them from one desk to another. When we do have to move anything though, it needs to be tracked so that our records can be accurate. To track where things have moved to, we have to:
1. fill out a form in an excel format and then fill out the same information into a text file format, and then attach both formats to the job record in our job listing system and send it to our hardware tracking team.
2. If an asset is being taken away to storage, but is considered to be too old, it needs to have an excel table filled out to create a 'disposal' label, or it can create a 'redeploy' label if it still has some years left in it.
3. If we are putting out a brand new asset, it needs to be updated on our tracking sheet to show that the asset is no longer in our storage as brand new.
This obviously creates a lot of administration work for our staff, so i have built my program to take all the information required once, and then split it off to the forms and labels as required.The part I'm stuck at is number 3. I have been working with the excel files in the following format:[code]What i need to do is as the title suggests, search an excel work book (the user will point to it) for the Asset Number in a particular sheet. Once it finds the asset number, cut the entire line out of the sheet and paste it into a different worksheet at the next empty line with a few edited values.

I have some trouble with opening a excel sheet and getting some data out of it.
I want my program to have a button, when pressed, gives a "select excel file" popup and then load the data from some cells into my sql database.
So, when opening a excel file the program should get the data from cell D3 to D8 and put that into the sql database.
I now have the following, but that will only open the excel file.

I have a vb.net app that I can read a .xls file into a dataset or loop through as oledbdatareader and it gives the same result.Some of the rows have all nulls when I loop through them but if I open the same file in Microsoft Excel I can see that row fine.[code]From the info above the first two SKU values would come through fine but when I get to the 3rd row it would show a null.Is it possible that it kind of inherits the first rows type and since the 3rd row isn't all numeric if nulls it? I've a got a homework assignment that chooses one of four values in a list box, stores it in a text file. Secondly, on the display click event it should access the text file, read the line, store it in a variable and then display the totals in a text box. Works sort of fine except that it doesn't display the totals correctly. Code for both buttons is below. The variable are assigned in the mainform (Tried also in the display button and didn't change anything). The save button works fine and stores fine in the text file, it's just the reading that's the problem.

In my application I read data (using data binding) from an Excel spreadsheet into a DataGridView. This works, but the data columns contain text fields (strings). I would like to set the data type for some columns to "Date" and Decimal. I cant do this on the DataGridView (error: cant change properties for data-bound stuff) and I cant figure out how to do it on the dataset or data-table that I bind to the DataGridView.The following is the code I use to read and bind the data:

I am building an ordering system for my job. The idea is that the customer will put in a stage name for an item. That stage name is then interpreted by the program.The product id and the amount the customer wants to order is placed in a list box on the form. There are a couple of buttons, ADD, REMOVE, CLEAR, and EXPORT. The user input is handled by input boxes. When the user pushes the EXPORT button, excel should open and list out the interpreted product codes with the corresponding amount to order. I can get excel to open, but I can not get excel to display more than one line. It will display the first product, but then it comes up with an unhandled exception.I can not figure out how to get excel to return down a row and display the next product within the list box.

I have a dictionary object (let's call it _do) I am using to cache some values for use in a multi-threaded program. I have a single controlling parent thread, with a timer function _doTimer() which can kick off child threads with a new instance of class MyThreadObject in each. My parent thread has _do as a property and with each time _doTimer() gets called, it may or may not repopulate _do depending on cacheflag settings. I pass a reference to _do to each instance of MyThreadObject and those threads at some point read the values of _do but DO NOT write to it.
What I want is to ensure that the child threads do not try and read _do whilst the parent thread is writing to it. Same thing but very slightly different -> I also don't want the parent thread to write to _do whilst the child threads are reading from it. However there is no problem with 1 child thread reading the values of _do at the same time as another child thread is reading the values - so ideally I do not want each child thread to completely lock out read access, only locking out Write access.. The code is roughly like this:

I have an application that opens up Excel, reads some information, then closes Excel. I developed this application using Microsoft Office XP 2007. A few weeks ago, my company upgraded to Microsoft Office 2010. The applications still works fine, but I can not compile in VS 2008 anymore. I get the error message: "Error 3 'Application' is ambiguous in the namespace 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'." I have updated my COM reference to Microsoft Office 14.0 Object Library, but the same message appears. [code]Obviously there is a bunch of stuff under this, but this shows where the errors are.I am unable to fix a bug in the program because I can not even compile it without error.

I dont get this. I use code from one project that works and paste into anther and now its full of errors.
I have no clue how to solve this (See attached image).All of the errors have to do with Excel and Outlook applications.The info for "Imports" section is the same as my other project and all the "Dims" are the same as well. (These are two separate projects).Basically, I copied a form from one app and made a stand alone app for that form.

I am converting several VBA projects to Windows form applications. The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:
