Optimized Code For A Class Wrote?

Apr 5, 2008

Whenever I decide to make a utility in VB.NET, I always end up writing a class like this one. I'm using it in an Explorer-like listview, and while I know it works, I have no idea (or experience) with coding for minimal overhead, speed, and precision. So I would like to know what I can do to optimize it.

''' <summary>

Can't Get A SOLID Line In .NET, Just Hashed

Oct 14, 2010

I'm trying to draw a solid line if VB.NET the way I can in VB.What I WANT to do is set the pentype to solidcolor, but it says pentype is read only and you have to instantiate the brush as the pen type that you want, SO ... I do this:

Public myBrush As New SolidBrush(Color.Red)Public p1 As New Pen(myBrush, 5)

And what I get when I draw a line is a pen type that is hashed. It's a bit weird, too. The line I'm drawing is between captures of the mouse position and if I move the mouse really fast, I get an almost solid line, but if I move the mouse slowly, I get a hashed line.

Connecting To Active Directory Using Hashed Passwords

Mar 24, 2009

I want for the local intranet user with limited rights to be able to update Active Directory from his own limited account. For this, we created a separate Windows account as an intermediary, which has appropriate Domain Admin permissions. Now we want to use these credentials (account name, password) in the client program (a Windows Forms application) the user will work with to update Active Directory.

The problem is... it seems DirectoryEntry object in .NET 2.0 only accepts plain passwords. Hashed passwords (I tested MD5) don't work.

Is there a way to configure DirectoryEntry so that it would work with hashed ones? Something to do with authentication types?

Below is my sample code that works with plain passwords but rejects hashed:- - -

Dim Entry As DirectoryEntry = New DirectoryEntry(ActiveDirectoryServer, sUserName, sHashedPasswordUsingMD5)
Dim Searcher As New DirectorySearcher(Entry)

Graphing Technique Works In Head?

Oct 6, 2011

I am trying to create a graph that changes every second and just shows a 3 second history. In my head it would make sense to tie it into the T variable (Time in seconds), so I have form1 outputting T to a text box on form2 and then everytime that textbox changes it graphs the new chart.

The reason I am doing the step ladder approach is because I wanted the numbers to appear under the points as they travel. does this make any sense at all, or am I completely off base?

Oct 31, 2011

I want some help from the best audio programmer who can explain me the decoding logic used to play the mp3 file(Programatically) I am aware of the bit patterns and the data chunks of mp3.I have the knowledge of the data chunks used in mp3 and wav files .I have also used winmm.dll file earlier to ascend into and descend out of the data chunks of wave files.But don't know how the bits are played in a player.Now I need to convert the wav file into mp3 format by use of some encoder program.I came to know about some lame encoder program but am unable to get how to start understanding it's code.

Best Technique For Sending Scheduled Email Reminders?

Mar 29, 2011

I've been thinking about this problem for a while now and I'm still not sure what is the best approach.Basically I've got several hundred email addresses stored in a Database, and every week I would like to automatically send these addresses a bulletin of information. I've accomplished this with a Stored Procedure and a Scheduled Job on the DB (Oracle), but I'm sure this could be achieved better with some VB.net solution.I've read about people writing a Windows Service, or creating a Console Application and using Windows scheduler. I'm swaying to wards the Windows Service approach but I'm not sure how to tell the service to send emails at a specific time every week. Any ideas, or is there a better approach?Also, what would be best? Send individual emails to the addresses in the emailing list, or send one email with every address added as a BCC?

Quick Technique Of Setting / Saving Variables

Dec 26, 2011

I know this is a VB.Net messageboard, but it can work with in all languages. Is there a quick way to complete a line (sample code):
//Setting variables set 1
a = e;
b = f;
c = g;
d = h;
.....

//Saving changes set 2
e = a;
f = b;
g = c;
h = d;
without having to type everything out...A technique using EXCEL or Notepad....Find and Replace. This would save a lot of time coding and becomes pain in the butt when you working with many variables.

Loop - Sub - Wrote Only To Temporarily Fill The Database In During Run Time

May 1, 2009

I have a sub that i wrote only to temporarily fill the database in during run time to be able to test a few other functions that i wrote as well ... weird thing is by the way i wrote it it should only look 100 times... but by the unique ID in the database and the information it pulls back into my list box it loops 700 times before actually stopping the loop ...

Public Sub Fill_LeftOvers()
Dim x As Integer = 0
conn.Open()

[CODE]...

Now i used step debugging and sure enough it only loops 100 times during stepping but in the database it looped like crazy ... i have also tried while x < 100 instead of the do loop but it did the same thing ... i know this may be considered a double post i mistakenly posted originally in the PHP forums earlier today ...

How In .net We Can Encode String For SQL

Jul 20, 2011

all ` should be replaced with `` right? Well, is there a function built in by vb.net that does that sort of thing already?

That way I do not have to encode it.By the way, I do not access sql database directly. Basically I am creating a text file and that text file contains raw sql statements. Most of the answers deal with accessing sql data directly.
